Need Deadlift subs!

Cathe (or fellow cathlete),

Please help. Due to lower back pain/strain, I can not do deadlifts anymore.

I struggle with this every time a deadlift is called for in a workout,usuall I just skip it & do nothing. What is the best sub for deadlifts during a back workout & leg workout?

I was wondering the same thing I also have low back issues but I was thinking every leg moves basically works the hamstring, lunges, leg press, hamstring roll ins with stability ball.

Not Cathe but I'll give you my experience. I think the deadlifts Cathe does really target the and hamstrings and some of the back. I really wanted to work my back muscles mostly.

What are your lower back issues? I have a slipped and collapsed disc in my lower back that sits atop a stress fracture, and I always struggled with deadlifts as done in the videos. Then I started working with a trainer and she started me off with a pin pull or rack pull. I pin pulled with my trainer today and lifted 270 pounds. If your looking to do the exercise as in the videos to work the hamstrings and some back, I hope Cathe or someone might suggest a modification. But if you really want to work the back and not aggravate your condition, maybe look into a pin pull type set up and see if it works for you. Good luck.
 
Hi Karen! Do superman's, all variations of them that don't bother your back. Also, do one arm dumbbell rows with one knee bent on the chair to support your low back. Good luck and go easy!
