Hi Cathe,
I'm looking for some advice on a workout plan for the next couple of months that focuses mostly on strength. You've advised me in the past and your suggestions are always so helpful.
After mostly using your strength and step workouts for about 10 years, I've been focused on running for the last 2 years, because I had a half marathon goal (did in July!). During the last two years, the only strength-related training I've done is physical-therapy type lower body exercises to help with a knee injury I had about a year ago. I've recovered from that, and I've run several races in the last year and I'd like to ease up on the running over the winter and focus more on strength.
I have all of your workouts through STS, but I haven't tackled STS yet. My issue is that while I guess I'm more of a strength "beginner" given how long it's been since I seriously trained, I have done advanced workouts in the past, so I don't really think I'd be satisfied doing a beginner-type rotation. I'd like to do STS, but I don't know if you have to already be in a certain kind of shape to do it (the idea of calculating my "one-rep max" kind of makes me laugh right now, b/c I know those numbers will be very light!).
Any thoughts on how I should structure my next 2-3 months so that I can build strength? Ideally I wouldn't lose all of my running stamina, but I know I don't have time to keep up with running 3 times/week and focus on strength.
Thanks!
Tracy R.
