Need a change

Hi Cathe,
I usually don't have much time to post (just browse the forums and order your dvd's of course!) but I need your input.
I've been working out at an advanced level for about 18 yrs. My workouts have always consisted of running for my cardio followed by about an hour of circuit/interval training (similar to your Cardio and Weights, Drill Max, Boot Camp etc..). After all this time,I feel I need a change and would like to set 2 days/week as just pure cardio days-no weights, and 2 days a week as pure strength days (with maybe a little cardio...cuz I'm addicted to it!!! lol). The remaining 2-3 days I would do my usual routine.
I feel as though I'm very fit with good definition (I'm 5'7" and 127 lbs), but I've just kind of hit a plateau and am looking for something new. Also, I'm starting to see....gasp....a little belly pooch I've never had before. Granted, I had twins boys 3 yrs ago and just hit the big 4-0 but this "gut" thing is new!
Do you think by shaking up my 18 yr routine and adding 2 days of heavier lifting(just ordered Muscle Max and Muscle Endurance) and 2 plain cardio days I'll see better results? I'm very leary to change b/c on the days I just do wts, I'm missing the "adrenaline rush" of cardio, and on cardio days I don't feel "sculpted"..and I certainly don't want to gain wt!! I do and have always tried to eat clean. Also, I know a rest day is essential but I usually have to talk myself into it. Can you please reiterate why its important to take a rest day.

Thank you for your help!
Jackie
