Neck and Shoulder Problems, Advice

So many of you are so educated, I just wondered if you could help me with my problem. When I was 17, I broke my neck in a car accident. I have always had problems with it, and it has to crack, everyday, or I get migraines and feel like my head is sitting on my shoulders crooked. About 4 months ago, I was doing a kickbox tape w/ my 1 lb. weight gloves on, and it has been uncomfortable for me since. I have had probably 4 migraines, and can not crack my neck. My shoulders feel scrunched and tight all of the time. When I do alot of intense cardio, it intensifies it. This week, I started to do The Tank Top Rotation. I can tell right now, there is just too much shoulder work for me to do it. Today I am just not feeling well. I have the Slim Series, do you think I should give the heavy weights a break, and do that for a couple of weeks, or do S&H, where I work each UB part once per week?? I was leaning more towards that. Also, do you think the treadmill gives me more just as good of a workout, but less impact on my back??? I also have some Firms which we all know are way less intense, I can mix those in at times. I just hate to give up my Cathe, but I think maybe it will help me if I taske the pressure off for awhile??? Do any of you have any suggestions??? Thanks.

I would lay off exercise until it feels better or do nonimpact cardio like on a bike.

I'd also see "someone" for it; be it an md, chiro, pt, massage therapist, bowen therapy, accupuncture, etc. and see if you can get some long-term relief. I have recently started Bowen Therapy after over 10 years of chronic neck pain and over 7 years of carpal tunel. For the first time in ages, I can actually feel my entire hands, I slept through the night without tossing and turning.

Another thing that helps me is Yoga Zone Conditioning and Stress Release. Very good for stretching the neck and back. My problem is the neck, traps, shoulders, also.

I also use two tennis balls taped together and put them horizontal and lie on them from my mid back up to my neck. Raising my arms up and down to apply more pressure.

I have been to a chiropractor and a physical therapist, and they just make it worse. I went to the dentist today and they told me my teeth are ground down flat because I am grinding them so much. My whole family are grinders, and I asked him if that could be causing this neck pain, and shoulder pain. I know I gring my teeth, I have worn gaurds for a long time, but he said my teeth are getting worse, and yes, it can be causing the migraines and shoulder pain. So, he is going to send me to an orthodontist to take a good look at my mouth. We will see what happens....Lori

You might want to look into Bowen Therapy. It is a holistic, nonevasive therapy as in they don't manipulate, massage, etc. It is more like an accupuncture type of treatment without needles. They do some small massages like rolling certain muscle fibers to send signals to the brain to readjust your body position "back to normal" so to speak. I'm probably not explaining this very well.

TMJ or teeth grinding tho could very well be the culprit. Hope you are feeling better soon!
