Natural Hair Color?

Anyone out there sport their natural hair color? I haven't colored my hair in a few years (due to a color nightmare that involved green hair) and like my color most of the time but sometimes it looks really drab, I have dark ash blonde that can look mousey at times but in the right light it looks great. I am growing it out to send away for cancer and know that the hair can't be processed but I really want a few highlights in the front or a wash out of some kind that makes my hair look better. Maybe I am just having one of those days.

What tips and tricks does everyone have to make their natural hair color look it's best?

If you are giving to Locks of Love, you can color your hair. You just can't bleach it so highlights are out. If you want to give your hair a kick, I would go with a nice blonde shade of Natural Instincts. It is a non-permanent hair color that only deposits color. There is no bleach or ammonia in it. And it washes out after 24 washes. It would kick your hair up a notch without any long term commitment or damage. I use it every month and it makes your hair feel so silky. ;)

Here are the guidelines for Locks of Love by the way:

I'm a mousy brown, and I use Natural Instincts Nutmeg in the winter, and a lighter, redder shade (can't recall the name) in the summer. I have grays that I need to cover, though. When I was all brown and no grays, I would use the clear Natural Instincts. It's called Bright Shine or Vibrant Shine - I can't remember. Gives you a nice, shiny head of hair without changing the color, or drying it out. It seemed to make my hair just a bit thicker, too. Its just a clear coat. You may want to try that.

I've never colored my hair and try to use sulfate-free shampoos and good conditioners, whatever strikes my fancy at the time I'm shopping. I do use a lot of Aveda products, though, to give me shine and control.

I have short curley hair and stopped coloring it about 3-4 yrs ago and I'm glad I made that decision. I live in SWF and had to always be careful about not getting into the sun too much after coloring or into pool because the chlorine, etc. Once I decided to stop coloring and cut it short I've been so happy. The greys are throughout but mostly noticeable near the temples. I know if I were to color it I'd look younger, trendy, etc but why try to fight nature?

To keep it managable and shiney I use smoothing products, shampoos, conditioner made for smoothing curley hair. I also use pomades. I found a new hairdresser about two years ago that cuts my hair very similar to the pixie that Hally Berry or Jamie Lee Curtis have.

Love it.
Carmen.

Another all natural gal here. I used to color my hair but gave up and let nature have it's way. :D
