Nails - rant!

I don't get it! How do you do nails professionally for 13 years & not do a "decent" job!?

I tried a new place for my nails (I wear acrylics) b/c the place that I go to is now very inconvenient after my recent move. I went in and was honest with them. I am picky, have certain preferences, etc. They assured me that this girl was great. She's been doing nails for 14 years at the same place. Everyone loves her. She has a huge clientele.

My nails don't look horrible but they don't look good either. Not to mention that when you spend $35, you want them to look fabulous! Some are square, others more rounded. Every single nail is a different shape in some way. The polish is not even. It doesn't look like a professional applied it, that is for sure.

Even while polished, I took a file to them and made them ten times better in five minutes. I can't fix them all though.

I know that I can complain or ask her to re-do them, but that's not really the point. I know that I am picky but seriously, anyone would be unsatisfied right now. How does this happen with all that experience!? Ugh!

The thing is, there are so many people that will get their nails done, that just because she has been doing them that long, doesn't mean she has had clients that long...Know what I mean? I'm sorry that you had such a hard time. When I was doing nails, I always offered to either fix what people didn't like, or their money back. One time I had a girl do my nails (I didn't feel like doing them) and she took 3 HOURS!! And they looked like CRAP! So I got my money back. I would either ask her to fix them or for a refund. Oh something else, That girl I went to had been doing nails for years as well...but Gels, she had just started doing acrylics, this may be what happened to you as well.....

I know the feeling....I had my 1st pedicure about a month ago. (surprise gift from dh). The place came highly recommended from a friend. Well, I get there and the place was a dump! His salon was dirty, I sat in an old uncomfortable chair, soaked my feet in an old, loud foot soaker, all while he cut hair. He didn't offer magazines or anything while I sat there... I had to watch him cut hair. Then, he only massaged each leg for about a minute, did a short foot scrub and painted my toes. No pumice stone (still had dry heels when I left), no filing my toenails, and no base or top coat.

Then, I had a facial. He put some mask on and left me in a cold room with no blanket for about 15 minutes. It was horrible!!!!

I wanted to complain and get my money back, but just decided that I will never go back. Also, I told dh to never take advice from this "friend" who just raved on and on about the place.

BTW, he was been at this business since the 1970's.

I just can't find any place I want to go to. Most of the places here are dirty and unsanitary or crazy expensive. There are tons of places around where I live and I just can't find one I like.

That's exactly why I hated to leave the person that was doing them. It just became impossible to get there and noticed that they looked great but they weren't lasting very long.

I am probably an idiot, but I decided last night that I am going to go back one more time to this girl and just (carefully) tell her what I didn't like. There's one nail that is perfect so I am going to just tell her how I see the others are different that that I'd like them all to look like that one.

Christine, That is not a bad idea at all! It may work in your favor...she may learn how you like them done and it may result in a great manicure for years to come! Just be gentle and specific, even state that you are picky (we all are with our appearance).

I do share the frustration...it is so hard to sit there for that long just to be so embarrased by the end result that you wouldn't dare flip someone the bird!:p
