My review of this self-tanner.

OK. Here goes. I bought Famous Dave's Tanner, after reading Kariev's original post titled "sunnless tanner rave" back in February!

I used it last night for the very first time. I LOVE IT!

This is my very first time EVER using a self tanner of ANY kind and I was hesitant. But after checking out the website, that inner voice kept telling me, "this is the one". LOL I bought the original and the moisture tan.

Last night before bed, I put it on my abs and legs. I let it dry and then put on shorts, just because I was afraid it might rub off or something. I went to bed, and when I woke up this morning to workout, I was AMAZED at how it well it worked! Almost like magic! :)

Now, I did get a dark spot on my achilles area simply because I wasn't careful to heed the warning about elbows, knees, etc (it didn't mention the back-of-the-ankle area, though. lol). And my toes look a bit funny because I did apply it to my feet, but didn't get it evenly on my toes and in between. It tanned me evenly and smoothly, no blotches or streaks!

And it looks natural. I tan easily and evenly in the summer, and I was worried this would look orange or UNnatural. It looks great! I showered this morning and my towel did not turn brown or orange when I dried off (except, again, for where I really REALLY rubbed my back-of-the-ankle areas!!).

It has a very faint smell to it, but certainly not a 'stink'! So I was happy with that too!

Thank you, Kariev, for posting your original post, and for those with all the input that followed up on that!

Ooh, glad to hear you like it Gayle! I got mine, but haven't tried it out yet. I'm worried I'm going to botch it up. I'll have to give it a go this weekend. ;)

Let us know how it "wears off", that is important too. Alot of them wear off and leave you looking "dirty".:-(

Will do! I was wondering the same thing! I'll keep you posted!

(that's the reason I didn't put it on any skin that people SEE yet...legs are still covered in jeans or sweats! LOL)

Here's a tip:

After you apply the tanner, wait about 3 minutes then apply a moisturizer. It helps eliminate any blotchy areas. I use tanner all the time and rarely, if ever have trouble with uneven areas. Also, when you put on the tanner itself just skip your elbows and knees but get them when you put the moisturizer on afterward- it will keep it looking natural.

I've been on the fence about ordering this so I'm happy to see more good reviews. My concern is that in the past when I've used ST I've gotten little bumps all over my body. I've also tried ST for the face and my face broke out really bad. Has anyone experienced this?

Have any of you used the Moisture Tan or the original lotion on your face?

TIA :)

Wendy - great idea. I will try that.

Oh - anyone here ever mix ST with moistuizer to apply to feet? I always have trouble with my feet looking a little dirty - no matter which ST I use - but Wendy - your tip may solve that problem. Thanks for sharing.

Gayle how much were the 2 products with shipping? I was debating buying the one from QVC she demonstratied it on TV and she even rubbed some on her clothes so we could see how it washes right off and you can use the same one on your face as well it was 19.99 I can not remember the lady.

I couldn't take it I had some extra time left on my tanning membership so I went so now I would like to switch to the self tanner I went to order the famous Dave and was unsure how it would do so Thank you for posting your experience with it. Have you worked out yet with it on? I am curious if it will rub on your clothes, I sweat so bad (who doesn't with Cathe)?

OK, just a minute because I have 4 BOYS in the house, but here are a few of my comments!

Great suggestion, about adding moisturizer on after the ST.

I worked out this morning with lite-colored pants and white socks on, and they were NOT discolored after that. And like I said, my white towels were still white after I dried off after the shower.

I used the original on my legs yesterday and it was smooth-going. Next time, I'll use the Moisture Tan bottle to compare the smoothness.

I paid $31.89 with shipping for 2, 8oz bottles. He has a shop on eBay as well, but when I compared prices, it came out about the exact same.

I got mine a couple of days ago and did my 2nd application last night. The color is perfect. I do spots on my ankle area too but that is because I am not great at applying. I use a baby wipe on my knees and elbow and they always come out good. My ankles and feet are really hard for me to do. But I love Famous Daves.

I got the Moisture Tan. I really like it. I just got finished doing Butts&Gutts and no fading on the clothes. If you are on the fence buy it.

i'm so happy you like it. isn't it nice to finally have a tanner that doesn't sweat off when you work out! i love this stuff. its the only one that i have consitently used. i apply it every other day and the fading is even and like a natural tan. Yeah! I'm so happy for you. For those on the fence, give it a try. Its got a money back guarentee if your unhappy with the product.

Just an FYI: Another thing that I find eliminates blotchy areas is to use a body scrub or sluffing product - particularly on the ankles, knees and feet - then I shave my legs. After that I apply the tanner when my legs are completely dry. When I do this my knees and ankles never get darker than the rest of the leg and everything looks even. Just my 2 cents - hope it helps! ;-)
