My Review of SIM "Strength in Movement"

Hmm, if I could lift my arms above my head I'd be cheering! I'm feeling this in just about every part of my body, but especially my shoulders, my lats and my glutes. I really like Jen. While Tracie seems kind of like one of the snotty popular girls, Jen seems like she'd be up for a beer and some wings (boneless and not fried of course!). Don't get me wrong, I like Tracie's teaching method, but she does seem a little stiff.

The workout seems no tougher than say Cardio and Weights, which IMO is one of Cathe's easier workouts, but I went to do Rhythmic Step afterwards (two hours is common on a Saturday for me), and I was whipped (and this is after a rest day yesterday!).

Now 4 hours later I'm really feeling this. In a major good way. Absolutely recommend this one. The more I do these the more I like them.

RE: My Review of SIM

That's what I like to hear, Christine!!! Glad you liked it, and glad to hear you're suffering now, LOL!!!

I got an email from Beach Body that they shipped my P90X 3/20 and it should take 2 weeks from that day... bummer!

I'm so glad you're enjoying your new workouts!!!

RE: My Review of SIM

Ya know Amy - that would sound horrible from anyone other than a fellow fitness buff! But YEAH! I'm glad I'm suffering too! (Who said that?!)

Sorry to hear that the P90X will take 2 weeks. How'd they ship them? From the East Coast and through the Panama Canal?!? My company is merging with another, and I think I'll keep my job. I'll get a little extra cash from stock (not much - but hey, unexpected money is ALWAYS nice), so I may just invest in P90X as well. The way it sounds is that they'd get here about the time my TLT rotation is completed!

RE: My Review of SIM

Ooh, I'm so excited to hear this. I'll be getting my TLT's hopefully next week but now I'm not sure which one to do first. As of a week ago, I was going to start with BBBB. Then with all the talk about FYC I figured I'd do that one and now (thanks to Christine :p ) maybe I should start with SIM. Decisions, decisions, decisions...oh, what will I do, what WILL I do??? lol

RE: My Review of SIM

I like this one too. The first few times I did it, I woke up with DOMS in my butt cheeks. And not just lower butt cheeks, but it seemed like it was all over them. Sorry I know that was kinda gross, but it just made me love the workout more!

RE: My Review of SIM

Count me in as another who loves SIM and ALL of the TLT's! They're really different and they definitely do work ya! :)

RE: My Review of SIM

AAARRRRGGGHH!!! I can't take it anymore.

How in the world am I going to buy the about $300 more worth of Cathe DVDs, TLT's and all the other w/o's everyone here loves and recommends? Guess I'll give up food, oh dear, but not the chocolate.

Seriously, are ALL the TLT's great?

Strength in Movement Is Fun!!!

I love this one too and was planning to start a new thread! I warmed up with my favorite chapters from the FIRM Super Cardio Mix DVD (mostly floor aerobics) then did Strength in Movement for the first time this morning. What a fun workout! I was expecting to enjoy working out with Jen. I started my fitness journey with her FIRM Basics workout and love her personality, but I did not imagine liking the actual workout so much. Being overweight for most of my life has done a number on my posture and taken a toll on my body in other ways, and I am hoping that this will help. I am greatly encouraged that I was able to do so many of the one-legged moves without modification. My balance has already improved tremendously as a result of all the Cathe workouts I have been doing since New Year’s Day, not to mention my core strength. I am excited!

There are a lot of creative moves in this workout. A few of them will take some practice. I had trouble rolling the weighted ball in under my foot during the ab work. It wanted to roll away from me. Does anyone have any suggestions, or will it just take practice?

This workout did not leave me feeling wiped out or worked out in the way a super intense workout does, but it left me feeling stretched out if that makes sense. I really like the way my core felt when it was over.

I definitely prefer Jen’s perkiness to Tracie’s more serious demeanor, but I am sold on the benefits of functional fitness. Susan’s workout does not appeal to me at all. If I could only buy one more, which of Tracie’s would you recommend? Is there another one in this series that is as much fun as this one, or should I just wait for the next round? I am hoping for an all-cardio workout led by Jen! :7

Heather B.

RE: Strength in Movement Is Fun!!!

I know what you mean, Heather. I think I am feeling it so much in my shoulders because I went heavier on the weights than I should have - despite all of the warnings. I get arrogant and think I can lift this weight normally, forgetting that these are not normal exercises. I was crying by the end of the overhead presses... LOL. I did it, but I will go lighter next time because it's the move that's important, not the weight, and I think I'll get more benefit with a lighter weight. Never, ever thought I'd say that!

Weights for Strength in Movement

Christine:

I used 8-pound dumbbells for my HEAVY weights. It feels funny to write that over here at Cathe’s place! ;)

I find with these workouts that they are actually harder than they feel. I think it's because of all the big range of motion moves. Moving a smaller weight a longer distance is as intense to the body as moving a heavier weight a shorter distance, but since the work is spread out over many muscle groups (even some I think were sleeping before these workouts, LOL!), it feels less intense. I'm always surprised when these workout make me sweat. They just don't feel that intense!

SIM especially works the postural muscles and some small muscles in the upper back, from what I felt after the first time I did it. I really like this one! (In fact, my favorite TLT's are the two by Jen and Susan).
