BUTTERMILK!!! Yumyumyumyumyum!!!! Not just for pancakes and waffles anymore. Cool, creamy, tart & tangy!! Lowfat buttermilk runs about 120 cals and 3 g fat per cup. Plus about 8g of protein and a decent dose of calcium. I love 1 cup frozen berries (esp blueberries or raspberries) with a half cup of buttermilk the frozen berries freeze up the buttermilk so its a sweet tart berry slushy consistantcy. Add a little squirt of honey if the berries aren't quite sweet. Also good w. a chopped up fresh apple. Makes a good snack or breakfast. Also love uncooked old fashioned oats with cold buttermilk and about a tsp of honey. About 1/2 c oats and 1 c buttermilk for breakfast. YUMMERS!!!! Or half buttermilk, half non fat plain yogurt w/ mini wheats or similiar crunch cearal that wont go to sog. MMMMMM

I love these ideas - I buy buttermilk occassionally to make lowfat creamy salad dressings, and then can never figure out what to do with the rest. I end up dumping it before I figure it out. I'll try these ideas. (I don't know why they can't make it in smaller containers)

I grew up drinking buttermilk. I love it! I just pour up a big glass, sprinkle a little salt in it, and drink it down!

you can freeze the leftovers. i pour mine into little freezer-safe containers and pop em out as necessary. it does separate somewhat so you do have to mix it a bit. i wouldnt want to drink it but in baked goods you cannot tell the difference.

Tha.nks for sharing about buttermilk... I never buy it, but I love the idea of using it for something different!! I never think of it for anything other than using it in ranch dressing or some baking recipes... love the idea of using w/fruit!

Take care, Lynn M

You can also make your own farmers cheese with it! Looooove it! I also use it to marinate chicken.

What is this Farmer's cheese you speak of? And how do I get it out of my buttermilk? I also like it to marinate chx. Nice and tender. YUM!
