My little cat did not come home

I understand the appeal of keeping the cat indoors. We kept him indoors the first 4 months we had him, since he was 4 months old. However, we live in a small house with a big yard. We spend most of our time outdoors ourselves. The weather is wonderful here.

He spent a lot of time hanging on the screen doors. We finally relented and let him be with us.

There is another twist. We suspect our sick sociopath neighbor, whom we have just sued, of having someone take the cat out of the area. She is a con artist type. She was just served the papers a few days before the cat went missing. We are suing her for a bunch of other things she has done.

Her son told us she was "on the hunt" for the cat. He may be wrong, but if he is stirring up trouble it would be unlike him.

We asked her if she took the cat and she answered, "Why would anyone do something like that." In other words, she didn't deny doing it.

But we do not have proof and it could be a coincidence. Of course, knowing we live next door to her, we could blame ourselves for letting him out even more. But living in fear is not something we are ready to start doing. Yes, in general, indoor cats live longer on average, but what good is a long, miserable cooped up life, especially in our area.

Just thought I'd give you all some background. This is nothing compared to the hurricane.

I'm sure that if someone did take our cat, s/he is treating him well. He is unusually irrisistably adorable and affectionate.

Thanks for asking. No news, but we have posted flyers with a 100 dollar reward in this neighborhood. I have also given flyers to 2 local vets offices with the words "has microchip."

I also dropped off flyers at the workplace of the individual I suspect is involved. Those flyers simply say Lost Cat, etc but some of the flyers around this neighborhood say Stolen Cat.

I wish vets automatically scanned every new animal but I found out they don't. This kind of nasty thieving is not common enough, thank God.

I confronted her and she gave a vague denial with a simpering, smug look on her face. Even if I had conclusive proof, there is nothing the police or animal control will do.

I still want my cat back. We miss him terribly. We hope she has not hurt him, and her son says she wouldn't.We believe him. We believe she gave the cat to someone.

This is the latest in a long string of manipulative, evil actions on her part. We are continuing to successfully resist temptation to "get her back" and that is why we finally went through legal channels and had to sue her. We do have video and audiotape of lots of her typical antics. She is trying to "squat" on part of our property as well as control things in that same vein.

It is frustrating to think we can't even own a cat next door to this woman (she likes cats but did this to hurt us) but we are trying to not think that way and to have faith that God will protect the innocent little animal and we will get through this discouraging time.

To get on topic, this has created a lot of stress and so has my job change. I have longer days and cannot get up at 4 a.m.somy workouts have become inconsistent.

A friend has lent me a Yoga DVD whichI did this morning. It was challenging and I need that type of movement.

Any good ideas and prayers are welcome.

Connie, I'm so sorry this has happened to your family. What a vicious woman. She will come to no good. What goes around, comes around IMO. She'll get hers.

You are handling the situation well. The woman is evil and will get her due. I pray that your cat is safe with good people.

I am sorry for your misfortune. I will think of you in my prayers.
