I was so touched by all your support last time I posted about going back to college that I just had to update you all. I am doing "phenomenal" and that is a quote from my oral communications teacher. She is almost 70 and has inspired me that I am NOT to old to start a career so guess what I did today...I switched to a 4 year Bachelors Degree so I'll be an elementary teacher in 4 or so years BUT the big goal is to then go for my Masters so I can teach at a college level. I know, its such a big goal, but I decided to take it one class at a time. After all these years of never believing i could amount to anything professional I am stunned I truly LOVE to learn and really can do it. I have many roadblocks but because of my "maturity" I just seem to cross the hurdles as they naturally come. Now, if only I could get my love of exercise back...Peggy

Awesome Peggy. I was just thinking about you. I've been thinking of going back to school for a long time, . . but since my kids are still young I've put it on hold. Dream big girl! You so can do this! I am very proud of you.

Wow, you go girl! I was actually debating on whether to go through with getting my MBA now or hold off and honestly, your post inspired me to just go for it!!!!

Peggy,

That is so good to hear. You should be so proud of yourself. Keep us posted on your progress!

Janie1234, maybe you could check your local college and see what they have in part time. If nothing else you can map out a plan . My youngest daughter is in 7th grade right now so when she graduates I will graduate and I should be able to start teaching elementary school. I'll go for my Masters at night. If someone would have told me in March I would be going to college and then being a teacher I would have said they were absolutely nutts. I can hardly believe all this myself. I just sat under our beautiful sugar maple which has turned a golden yellow and read Edgar Allan Poe's -"The Fall of The House of Usher". Talk about mystifying...
Meliffy, the fact you are going to go back to school because I posted just warms my soul. I hope you just love it. Thank You everyone...Peggy

Glad to hear all is going well.
I find that "older-than-average" students tend to be some of the most well-motivated and diligent. I love having older students in my classes, because they do what they are supposed to (homework!) and they don't make lame excuses when they don't !

As far as I know, it's difficult these days to get hired at college level without a PhD (that is, if you want a full-time, tenure-track position, and not a 1-3 year at a time contract as an "instructor" rather than a "professor". Though maybe it's different in other disciplines?

(And I just hope to all get-out I won't be teaching when I'm almost 70! Some days, I'm ready to retire right now! LOL!)

I would only want to teach part time for college anyway. What do you teach? You are so blessed even though I am sure you work very hard. I am now wondering if I should have chosen English or Language Arts as my major instead of Social Studies because I just discovered I love reading Poe etc. Peggy

I teach French.

I think your goals sound very exciting! I know I had a much greater appreciation for school and the learning process the second time around, as an adult -- it *is* fun, isn't it? Glad to hear you're doing well and loving it!

Yes, it is kind of fun. I love watching how teachers "teach" and how the younger students have such drama over what I consider nothing..lol. Then again, some of the younger students are very serious about their educations and I am very impressed with that. What bothers me the most are students coming in late. Some do it regularly and it is distracting when they walk in front of the Power Point and then the instructor has to stop and tell them to turn in their papers etc..most annoying since everyone can tell time. Thank You for the well wishes. Even with my physical issues I have a brand new outlook on life and it is fantastic! Peggy
