My fitness goal for '04

On this day of reflection and self-examination I decided to go public with my personal fitness goal for '04. I want to be able to do the push-up sequence on the BB Timesaver DVD (I believe it is bonus footage). I am just blown away by the amount of push-ups, the time counts (the 6 down, 2 up and then reverse), the one-armed thingy - I just cannot keep up with Cathe and the gang! Is there anybody out here who can actually do this? Please, feel free to brag about yourself if you can, because you are my hero!

Right now I can do about 15 big girl push-ups before I collapse into a quivering mess.
Anyone have advice or tips on how I can increase my strength and stamina?? Can I work on push-ups everyday, or would every other day be better?

I have always believed that Cathe was not of this world, or else some sort of bionic woman; but the fact is that there are several others who can do these push-ups also (Jai, Lorraine and Brenda). So either the robots are growing in number, or this is eventually possible for humans to master.

Since I always work harder if I have a reward set up for myself, I have decided that if (no, when!!) I ever get these push-ups down, I will take myself and my three daughters (as my cheerleading section) and drive the 3 or so hours and take a live class with Cathe. It has always been a fantasy to do this, so I thought it would be the ultimate reward.

So everyone have a safe and happy new year and good luck in meeting all your own goals.

Hi Tracy, I used to hate push-ups. Four or five and I was spent. Just keep at it. Just do as many as you can with good form. The time will come when you can do what Cathe does. Let your chest rest and recover for at least 48 hours before you do more push-ups. I've found that doing bench presses and dumbbell flyes, with as much weight as I can handle and with good form, has greatly helped my ability to do push-ups. It did take a long time... a few months. Hang in there. Good luck.:)

Tracy,

I think your goal is admirable as well as very attainable! I am in a similar situation to you... I am trying really hard to get good at push-ups and still have to do them on my knees most of the time. I have faith though, bc when I first started working out with Cathe (less than one year ago) I couldn't even do ONE "real" push-up. Now, I can do 7 or 8 before collapsing (into a quivering mess as you so accurately mentioned earlier:)

I'm not sure how often to practice them either... I was thinking to put at least 48 hours in between intense push-up sessions just bc that is what most people tend to recommend when you do difficult strength training.

I wish you lots of luck with your fitness goal! Keep us updated on your progress and let me know if you discover any helpful hints! I could certainly use them as well! Sincerely,

Alison

Hi Tracy! Whatever # of pushups you can do is what YOUR body can handle. As long as each time you can even increase the # by 1 you achieved another goal. I just keep pressing past my comfort zone & just grit my teeth & go for it!!! I can do all the # of pushups whatever Cathe throws my way but its not easy. My '04 goal is to really be more focused than ever before to try to drop a little bit more bodyfat. Loving this new BB series too! Happy New Year! Kathy

My fitness goals are to maintain my weight and to continue to improve in aerobic endurance and strength. I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing, because it's working!!

My fitness goals for 2004 are:
1. Do 5 to 10 V Pikes on the stability ball with perfect form.
2. Eat 3 to 5 (minimum) servings of fruits/vegetables a day.
3. Lose and keep off 10 pounds...stay within my goal weight by 2 to 5 pounds year round.
4. Keep on keepin' on!

Tracy,
Not sure what sequence your talking about, but there are many things they do that my body can't. I have a terrible time doing Planks and pikes on the ball. All in due time though.
