It happens every winter and gets worse the older I get. All day long I'm putting moisturizer on my face! It was even flaking this morning. Just finished a run and it burns! I was checking out the "secrets" thread and saw some people use coconut oil? On your face? I have to get something ... and soon. At least to put on at night. HELP!

I use grapeseed oil and drinkable aloe vera. Been using it instead of moisturizer for almost 2 years and it works great, plus it's ridiculously cheap. I have very dry skin, but this works very well.

Your skin is most likely "dehydrated" as opposed to dry since you mentioned this seems to happen seasonally.

Drink lots of water and try and hydrate your skin by switching to a different moisturizer during the winter months. You could also treat your skin to a facial or invest in a good exfoliant to slough off the flakes.

Dehydrated skin is very common during the winter, not just because of the outside temperature but due to the dry conditions indoors caused by heating systems. A humidifier may help as well.

I'll haul out my humidifier. I did switch moisturizers. I go to a local skin care place (the owner makes her own) and at my last facial I picked up the moisturizer and an exfoliator. On their recommendation I even add some of the undereye cream on top of it but it's still bad.

After my shower I did try the grapeseed oil. It felt kind of weird "greasing" up my face but it feels pretty good right now. Not sure my facialist would approve (she'd probably drop over) and hopefully it won't clog my pores. But at this point I'm desperate!

Chanel Hydramax something or other moisturizer. It is listed as the best in Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter without me Paula Begoun(?). Pricey but wonderful. This stuff saves me every winter. Worth every penny IMO.

SOunds like you could use a serum and then a moisturizer on top. You are lucky, I think, as most moisturizers on the market seem to be made for people with drier skin, especially the night cream included in most cosmetic ranges. i can't use them at all as they are too rich for me and clog my pores, even after 1 use. Take a look at the richer serum in the Olay Regenerist range, the red bottle and try the night cream that goes with it. I cannot use these at all, so they may be perfect for you.

Look for products with a high percentage of hyaluronic acid in: it helps the skiin retain moisture.

I promise that grapeseed oil won't clog your pores. It's highly recommended for skin care, and since I've been using it - the dark discolorations on my face have disappeared.

Other 'good-for-your-skin' oils are: jojoba oil, olive oil, coconut oil (all mimic the natural oils in the skin to some extent).

After successfully treating my severly-dried-out-face with coconut oil after a bout of poison ivy that left my entire lower-left face looking like fish scale, or a burn victim, or a burnt fish, and left me thinking I'd forever have some kind of discoloration from it, I swear by coconut oil.
