My dogs stink!

Question of the day: "Why do dogs feet smell like corn chips?" Or like Lian said "gym socks?"
:D It is probably the weirdest thing ever, not that I go around sniffing dogs paws, but when you are down on the floor playing I have been known to catch of whiff of what smells like Frito's coming from Georgie's paws!:7 :7 Ick.

I use a bucket and a hose. I put the shampoo onto a cloth instead of directly onto the dog as I never seem to be able to get the stuff out that way. When it's cooler, I fill a bucket with warm water and use it to rinse them off. They're used to it now, but the first time I gave Jimmy a bath his howling was so horrifying that neighbors came out of their houses to see who was being abused. It was actually kind of funny. He survived and realized that it wasn't as bad as it had seemed at the time.

Dogs have sweat glands on the bottoms of their feet - coupled with natural micro-organisms that live on the surface of their pads - result in the "frito feet" syndrome . . . and any increase in moisture of the pads (wet weather, licking . . .) the smell is stronger.

Crazy, isn't it?

Maybe because the main ingredient in most commercial dog foods is corn / corn meal!!!?

You guys just made me do the sniff test on my dogs' feet, nope no Frito smell coming from their paws.:7

LOL Carola! I just went and sniffed my dogs paws too. He was napping and looked at me like what ARE you doing crazy lady. No corn chip smell but I think he is due for a bath.

Just a suggestion, but do you have a car wash near you. Many car washes these days have "Dog Washes" attached to them. I use them all the time for our two dogs. They provide the soap, condition, rinse and dryer. Very handy. Just put your money in the slop and go. It only costs about $5.00. Hope this helps.

Gilda's 45 pounds and Gracie's 52 pounds (she really is a little porker!)and, when I get around to it, I bathe them in the bathtub. We have a shower massage that's attached to a hose-like what-ja-ma-jig and I use that.

They hate it...they will not go near the bathroom because of their fear and hatred.
