This is the alergy season for me and I am wondering it is for one of my cats too. I took him to the vet last week and they put some dye in his eye and found nothing. They gave me some ointment since if he had a scratch it could have been under the eyelid and not have been able to be seen. He now has goo from both eyes. I have severe allergies in May myself and wake up all night with gooey eyes. They also itch all day long. This is his first May since he is still young and I am wondering if they may be alleries that he inherited from me ( I am his grandma according to my older daughter who happens to be his non-cat "mother". Any thoughts? Thank you. Note: my dog "grandson" seems to have irritated eyes this time of year too also making me wonder if the poor cat is just unlucky.

Animals can have allergies. My cat, gets really congested and throws up all the time, this time of year, so I have to give him meds to stop it. You may want to see if the vet will treat him for allergies, some will some won't depends on their beliefs and expertise. But in full bread or half breeds, there is a lot of different allergies cats can have or get, and can be carried down threw the line to even 1/100 of a bread. I had one cat that was even allgertic to Bounce the clothing softener, so I had to switch brands just for him, or his eyes would run and he'd lose hair where ever he rubbed his body on my nice warm clothes from the dryer. So it is very very possible it is allergies, but be really careful your kitty isn't constantly rubbing his eyes, or he may tear a tearduck, and then will have to have surgery to get it fix. My kitty did that, as it took me a couple of weeks to assoicate the Bounce with eye watering.
Also clean the house very well vaccum as much as time allows or get the kids to do it and keep it as dust free as possible, and you may want to think about getting an air purifer for the whole family. I've found that helps with my allergies as well as my cats. But dusting and vaccuming are usually the best helpers, just I know how much of a pain it it, to try and do it everyday, but worth the effort.

A little bit of goop can be normal for cats. I usually clean goop("eye goobers") out of my cats' eyes anywhere from never, to a couple of times a week. Depends on the cat. There isn't a lot of goo, but some.
Excessive or constant eye goo can accompany upper respiratory infections. That happens a lot with the kittens at the shelter I volunteer at. They give them antibiotics to deal with it (but I'm not sure if that's the best way to treat it, but with so many cats, they probably can't just wait for it to go away).
There was one cat at the shelter who came in as a kitten and was almost a year old. A beautiful black boy, but his eyes were constantly goopy. They tried whatever they usually do for goopy eyes, and it didn't work, so they just let him be goopy (REALLY goopy at times). He finally was adopted by someone who didn't mind his goopiness. He could have been allergic to something (maybe cats!

My 16 yr old cat has gooey eyes as well. Hers are from blocked tear ducts. The vet has told me to gently massage the inside corner of her eye to try and open the tear ducts. I don't know if this is part of the aging process but the massaging does seem to work temporarily.

My vet advised me to keep our cat indoors due to probable allergies. We used to let him into the garage but she said even that was too much. After we kept him in, his eyes and scratching wounds cleared up just fine. Now I just take him out approx. once a day and just hold him (he used to like to go under the bushes)and let him look around, so at least he gets his fresh air.
Hope the vet can help and that they clear up soon. Your too! Allergies really SUCK!

All my stray "adopted" kitties have had some form of that eye goup. Usually it is just really liquidy..no color to it though, but it looks so annoying for them. The vet usually gives me oral antibiotics for her as well as that eye vaseline stuff you have to put in 2x per day. Thankfully, the one kitty I have at my house doesn't get it too often. (I can't even get her in the carrier to go to the vet!). The long since adopted cats that my Mom has at her house still gets the goup quite a bit but they also spend more time outside and it is a multiple cat household so if it contagious..well, that is why it spreads over there...
