I must say this was the most rememberable and awesome experience of my 2 birthing experiences.
I went into the hospital to be induced on Friday, 9/9. I was 4 cm dialated when I got there. The nurse started the pitocin around 8 a.m. My doctor came into my room about 9:15 a.m. to tell me that she had changed her mind and was going to wait to break my bag of water until after she was finished with the surgery she had to do that morning. In hindsight, it was a very good thing she did. At 12:55 p.m. she came into my room to break my water. At that point I was only 5 cm dialated and having contractions, but not feeling them because my bag of water was blocking them. As soon as she broke my water I began to feel them and they were really strong. My doctor returned to her office, which is across the street from the hospital, in the meantime. After about 15 minutes of hard contractions I decided I should ask the nurse to get the anesthesiologist on his way to give me my epidural. However, I never got the chance to have the epidural or any other pain medication. Within minutes of asking for the epidural I felt like I needed to push. The nurse decided to check me and I was already fully dialated. She called the doctor and I began to push. The doctor made it in record time. I have never seen a doctor put on a gown so fast in my life. I pushed for only about 15 minutes and by 1:58 p.m. my daughter was born. I have a few stitches from where the doctor had to cut me because DD shoulders were so big. All in all, I am still amazed how quickly everything happened and how great I have felt ever since. I actually feel guilty that I am on maternity leave because I don't feel like I have given birth at all, just been off work on vacation or something.
I'm just really glad that I did not go into labor naturally at home. If my water would have broken there then I never would have made it to the hospital and DH would have been delivering our daughter himself probably at home or in our car.
Our daughter's name is Annamarie Grace. She weighed in at 7 lbs 11 oz and was 20 inches long.
