My 1st doggie run!

I asked sometime last week about running w/ the dog, and today we did it!

I took Vlad for his Sun morning walk this morning, ate some brownies, did The Viper (1st time btw, that was fun), ate some brownies, fixed dinner, and then it was time for his evening walk. I ran 60 mins by myself yesterday for yesterday's workout, and normally wouldn't do the same thing 2 days in a row, but due to the previously mentioned brownies (with frosting) I decided a little extra exertion wouldn't hurt.

I put 30 mins of music into the Ipod and off we went. It took about 3 blocks of Vlad choking himself to realize we were running at MY pace, not a hell-bent doggie chasing squirrel run. He walks w/out pulling, but he wanted to GO! I guess he decided breathing was a better option and slowed up to a trot, which is more my pace. We stopped once so he could pee. Now, he spent at least an hour prior to us leaving hanging in the backyard w/ DH, but I guess he didn't have to go?;)

We finished up at 2.71 miles, which is about 5.4 mph pace. I normally run about 5.2 mph on a good day or 5 mph on a slower day, so I actually did better. That was a surprise when we got home, bc it felt like we were going slower than normal. I guess Vlad made me pick up the pace a bit. We had a short potty break, and a couple times where he would cut in front of me or decided that something somewhere else looked interesting and wanted to veer off in that direction. Even still, a little faster than normal, I guess that means I can go faster on my own, too. Learn something new every day!:D Vlad drank a good half bowl of water when we got home, and when I got out of the shower, he was looking rather comfy on the living room floor with his tongue lolling out.

And to think, today was originally going to be an off day. Damn brownies!!!:D

Will def have to go tootling around with my dogger again. We both enjoyed it!

Way to go, Nan and Vlad!!!!!

It sounds like you both enjoyed it. I always run faster with my dogs than by myself  In fact, I don't even like running by myself anymore, how weird is that?

Glad you and Vlad had a nice run.

This brings up a question. Why do dogs want to run at full speed while choking themselves? You would swear that my 2 were sled dogs in a previous life. They take off like there is no tomorrow and finally settle in at about a 1/2 mile. They are lease trained, but they don't seem to care how much I try to correct them. They just want to pull.

Yes! Mine, too! It's weird! Kind of like, no matter what the breed, all dogs are born with this "Run and be free, be free!" gene that makes them just want to fly when they first get going!

I just got back with my run with the dogs. They always are fun to take, but they do slow me up with their peeing and curiosity, not that I mind. They are great company!

BTW, I posted the link for the purple suede shoes in the "too tall" link if you're interested...

Nan, you are so dang cute -- you crack me up!!! Congratulations to you and Vlad (LOVE your dog's name!!). I ate a stack of pancakes and 2 cookies yesterday and worked it off on my elliptical with a Cardio Coach workout. ;)
