Music for Relaxation

I need to pick your brains to find some interesting mellow music to listen to for massage therapy. God bless them but I am sick up to here with Solitudes and canned loons...porpoises...wolves et al! Some of it sounds too much like 'Tella Tubby' type music. I'm striving to use music that is a bit obscure which makes it less likely that my clients will have been exposed to it before or have a memory tied to it.

I have been using a lot of Brian Eno & Robert Fripp as well as Paul Schwartz. Bruce Cockburn's instrumental "Speechless" is wonderful too. I have enjoyed perusing the music stores but wondered if any of you have any suggestions for music that is soothing as well as interesting to listen too. TIA:)

Laurie - Delerium has some lovely ambient-type music. Some has vocals, some doesn't. There are some compilation "Chill Out" cds available as well, that have some nice relaxing music on them, some world beat, some electronica, but all soothing:)

Thanks Shelley, I have Delerium's Greatest (love it and they're Canadian too!!):D but I find it's better for yoga than massage. I have down loaded a few lovely Chill Out/Buddah Bar tracks and will look for more. I've been looking for Peter Gabriel's soundtrack to "Last Temptation of Christ" as I've heard other therapists rave about the music but so far no luck. Thanks for your input:)

I like anything by Merlin's Magic and there is a whole group of CDs by a company called Soundings of the Planet. My fav is Peaceful Pond and there are a couple of artists from there - Dean Evenson, d'Rachel and Tom Barbaras that are just wonderful and not too New Agey.

I also like Tim Wheater's Heartland.

Hi Laurie,

I continually turn to Sting's "Ten Summoner's Tales" CD to use as a cooldown in my classes. I especially love "Fields of Gold". It's a soothing CD, a little jazzy, but very relaxing in my opinion.;)

Thanks Lisa, I have this CD but haven't listened to it in a while. You are right 'Fields of Gold' is gorgeous, I also like 'Shape of my Heart'......oh and that song about 7 brothers (not for massage but it's a fun ballad), I'll have to dust it off and give it a spin today.:) I've been using his song 'A Thousand Years' as a cool down stretch in my classes lately and really like that one too. I'll have to make like a DJ and get mixing some of these suggestions.

Take Care
Laurie:)

Sounds great to me, Laurie! I like the song about 7 brothers too!! And Shape of My Heart as well. Gee, I just love all of them...haha
Have a great day!!:)

I love Enya's music. She might be a little too common if you're looking for something obscure but she has some beautiful stuff.
