Muscle Endurance

Is Cathe's Muscle Endurance workout good for muscle building and/or maintenance, or for just having a sleek, slim, and non muscle buldging body?

Thanks for your help,
~Adri;-)

Hi Adri,
I would say that if you are new to this kind of strength workout you will see some increase in lean muscle mass. I believe Muscle Endurance is geared more towards developing and improving muscular stamina and endurance as the title suggests, with the emphasis on lean muscle. I think that if you wanted to develop larger muscles you would look to the Slow & Heavy series.
However, genetics does play a role, so you may find that you build muscle easily with "endurance" strength workouts - you just have to play around and see what works for you. Muscle Endurance is a great workout though, and I am sure you will enjoy (and grimace;-) ) your way through it!

Thanks Willoe! This really helps. I guess instead of buying Muscle Endurance, I'll buy another one of the Slow & Heavy Workouts. Thanks for your help.

I am considering buying this workout. I am trying to figure out if this is for me, though. I want to tone up and look more lean, but I don't really want bulky muscles. One of the other posters wrote that this workout is for muscle endurance- I guess I am confused as to what that means. I just don't know what that means vs other strength workouts. I guess I get confused with all the lingo- muscle endurance, functional fitness, muscle building, toning, etc. Any help would be much appreciated. :)

Muscle endurance means that you work a muscle for an extended period of time and going with lighter weight with higher reps rather than going with high wieghts and low reps but more sets for muscle building.

"I want to tone up and look more lean, but I don't really want bulky muscles."

This workout will help you achieve those goals. You may gain a bit of muscle in the beginning if the format is new to you, as your muscles adapt to the style of lifting. But you can't get a lot of mass out of it.

Functional fitness refers to exercises that mimic activities that we do in daily life, like bending to pick up objects from the floor, or reaching overhead to grab something out of the closet. Those workouts are designed to improve flexability and strength for everyday life.

Muscle building workouts typically use heavy weights with fewer repetitions..you would use a weight that you can only do a limited number of lifts with. This is what gives you bigger & stronger muscles.

Toning is just firming up the muscles while losing a bit of fat...Muscle Endurance is a good choice for this also.

I am no expert, but hope this helps.....BTW, Muscle Endurance is one of my favorites!

So then would you recommend going with lower weights than CAthe uses or use the weight she does if you can for her muscle endurance workouts? I'm lifting heavy now (GS series) and am going to do a muscle endurance workout when I'm done and I was unsure about which weights to use at that point-

Ideally, whether you are doing a strength or a muscle endurance workout, you should always use a weight that allow you to complete all reps, but that makes it impossible for you to complete one more with good form (the last 2-3 reps should be tough to complete).

The weight you use for a ME workout will automatically be lower than what you would use for a strength workojut because of the higher number of reps.
