Muscle Definition

I am 5ft.10, weigh 150 lbs and have long legs and long arms. This is the reason, my husband says, that I will never get muscle definition. Is he right? Or can I get definition if I have a low enough body fat percentage? My arms are firm and you can tell I am working out but I am missing the defined look. Any ideas?

I am 5', 7". 123 pounds. I have long arms and legs also. I am an ectomorph, meaning I don't have much musle definition on my own. I have using Cathe's CTX and am now moving into Slow and Heavy. I am getting muscle definition. Certainly I will never look muscular in the way Cathe does but I can see little "cuts" in my shoulders and my legs to look muscular. Have you tried alternating your weight work outs beteen heavy and moderate weight training? I am also doing 5 or 6 days of cardio. Last summer when I went "home" to Michigan to visit my mom, I weighed 135. I've droppedd 12 pounds from being really consistant with my workouts and keeping my diet clean (most of the time).I have found the http://www.fitday.com website invaluable!

Thanks for the feedback, Bobbi. Maybe there is hope. I am in the 5th week of a weight rotation: Firm's Lower Body Split, PS Chest, Shoulders, Triceps, PS Back & Biceps, Circuit Max, Firm's Super Cardio, Mega Step Blast. I am getting stronger and I can up my weight a lot but I probably have to loose 10 pounds to actually see my muscles. I have been trying to loose those 10 pounds for a year. I am eating clean, except for two beers at night. But like www.calorieking.com says :Cows get fat eating grass!

HI! Just my two cents....I am struggling with a serious plateau right now but I am the type that two beers a night would hinder my results BIG TIME. Now, I am no prude and love my Michelob Golden Draft Light...but it seriously hurts my results. I have cut down to about 2 or 3 beers a week if that and I can see a leaner body already. I love beer. I think I like a speedy metabolsm and leaner tummy better though.

Again, just how I respond to it. Darn. :)

I think it's time to cut out my beer. I looked over my food intake and I consume 2500 calories a day which holds me steady at 150 lbs. If I cut out the beer alone it would put me close to 2000 which should be enough for a weight loss. I think I am ready for it. I have to make small steps at the time: First I started to exercise six times a week (3 years ago), then I began to eat clean (1.5) years ago and now it's time to throw out the alcohol. A flat stomach is more important than a beer. Wish me luck.

Don't tell me I have to give up my beer to get that flat stomach! Think I would rather give up my calories elsewhere on the days I feel like having a few :-rollen tee hee!

I am 5'9", and have a very hard time building muscle. People consider me to be skinny, because I weigh 130-135 pounds. I would not be considered "cut", but you can tell my arms and legs are a teeny bit more muscular than they were before I did strength work. My stomach holds on to the fat, though, and sticks out more than I like. I have found that I get "fatter" when I eat until I'm full, and can lose 2-3 pounds over a couple of weeks if I spread the food out over each day. I count calories, and the calories DO count, but it seems that the same number of calories don't keep the weight on if I eat smaller meals/snacks and don't pig out once or twice a day. I try to stick to 1900-2200 calories a day, except for weekends, where I will drink some beer/wine and forget about the calorie counting.

Since you know how many calories you need to eat, try spreading them out over the day and see if it helps even more!
