Muscle definition/size

Ronne

Cathlete
I have a question for all you educated people!

I feel like I've got to the point I'm happy with in terms of muscle size. I don't really want to get any bigger and I'm happy with the definition in my arms, in particular.

So my question is, what sort of weight training should I do? I reckon I'm a meso (the one that builds muscle quite easily, is that right?). I'm not going to stop lifting weights obviously but, for example do I just not lift any heavier than I currently do? Do I continue to use Gym Style, 4DS etc. or switch to other types of workouts?

And please don't think I look like Cathe or am showing off about how good I look! I've reached the right level for me, personally, and it may be a long way off what other people would want! ;)

Thanks!

I hear ya, Ronne! I just went throught this the other day. I felt like I looked a bit too muscular for my clothes. So I've decided to do a circuit rotation for the next month-2 circuits, 1 total body, 2 hiit, 1 kickbox. I'm hoping this will help define my muscles. I preordered STS so I will be doing that, but I don't think I'll have the diet to support more gains.

And I bet you look great!:)

I've often wondered this too, it'll be interesting to see what recommendations you get from the knowledgable people...I've learned so much here!

ITA. The biggest thing is to keep changing it up. When my personal training clients hit their peak, I just keep changing up their programs--not too much cardio to lose the muscle that they've gained, and not too much heavy lifting. Every few weeks I have them change their program so their bodies never get to a point of plateau. The key things with getting bigger is that you have to eat more (about 10% more than your Active Metabolic Rate) in order to facilitate gains. Plus, very little cardio, but enough to keep your heart healthy. Also, it's extremely tough to build muscle unless you naturally produce a lot of testosterone or take hormones.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

It's a good point about the food intake, Laura. I hadn't thought of that.

My plan is to stick to circuit type workouts with lighter weights, more reps, kickboxing and some yoga to really stretch things out. It'll be nice to go back to some DVDs I haven't used for a while.

I'm going to do that for a couple of months probably and then go back to 4DS, Gym styles, etc.

Hi to you Catherine. I'm going to pop in to the OAL group soon for a catch up!
