Moves that are still difficult!

Oh my gosh! You guys have me rolling on the floor. This thread and all your comments struct me sooo funny! The tears were flowing. LOVE the laughs I get from this place, I'll tell ya'!

As for me those, Terminator Climbers are THE hardest thing I think Cathe has ever done. I am totally gasping (along with hubby) as I walk around the room trying to find a teenie space to pull in just a bit of air into my lungs! Whew!

I LOVE straddle taps! Be sure to tap your right foot onto the step BEFORE you go into the 16 alternating taps, starting with the right foot down on the first tap. I concentrate on my hips going side-to-side a bit as I do them Kathy, not exagerating them though. They are so fun once you get them. (My fav interval I think)

I am still struggling just a hair with the shuffle-repeater. I actually have the feet in the right place now, But somehow it just isn't pretty??? I TRULY look dorky doing it! :p

As I have mentioned before, I have been able to do LESS push-ups now then before. Haven't figured out why? I am wondering if it is because my mid section has gotten thicker this year and maybe it is harder to support it? OH BOY!

I am game for the thread explaining moves. It would be a great addition for newbies too.

All I can say is hang in there. I'm a long time exerciser and it took me FIVE YEARS to do full body push-ups. Even now, if I slack off, I have to work to do them all over again.

For squat thrust climbers, I find them a bit easier if I lean on the step rather than go all the way to the floor. That extra bit of height really helps.

For the ball work, I'd buy an easier ball video/DVD and slowly work your way up to doing those pikes.

You could also post on the "Ask Cathe" forum a question about what she did to build up to those pikes.

I did PUB last night and tried the inverted pikes. I've been practicing these on the floor in an attempt to strengthen my arms and shoulders. I start in a plank position and move into something like a downward dog in yoga.

I got brave last night and tried the inverted pikes on the ball. I'm still not doing them right. I have an irrational fear of pulling up too far and flipping over. I guess it's a good think my Mom never signed me up for gymnastics when I was growing up! Maybe I should try these up against a wall...

I'm a little bizarre in that simple power moves (plyo jumps / jacks / scissors; plie jacks; squat-thrust-climbers; ice breakers; sequential power kicks; straight-leg push-ups; etc.) take relatively little time for me to master and get through without modifications.

What gets me is fancy footwork, especially step fancy footwork. Rhythmic Step defeated me almost before I even started it, and it took seven full tries just to do the warm-up (which is the only segment of that routine I can do) without breaking my neck. Those step-up plus kick front-side plus knee-kicks . . . well, let's just say my brain better be in my head on those days or my butt's on the floor.

Same with drop-squat pendulums. Fell off the step the whole two times I actually attempted them; resorted to plyo jacks ever since. To my surprise I was able to do I-Max 2 straddle-taps and those turny-type jumps in interval #10 without too much trouble. That's rare.

Just finished IMAX2 for the first time...actually survived it!!! I found it easier to figure out what Cathe and crew were doing than in Rhythmic Step (my very first Cathe step tape), but the high impact stuff killed the balls of my feet. So everything had to be modified. Is it possible to toughen up that part of your foot so you can jump more??? (Besides losing weight...that's part of the task at hand anyway!)
I'm with you, Debbie, I can't reclaim my old full-body pushups.
And A-Jock, you're not alone...I was so frustrated trying to figure out Rhythmic Step...it was such an accomplishment to finally be able to do it all the way through and not screw up...except I have to keep it low-impact still. Oh well...
