Mother In Law wearing white dress at the wedding?

Okay I couldn't resist. This poor girl's mother-in-law wore a white dress at her wedding. I mean, it even looks like a wedding dress.

She said that you can see the expression on her face and everyone else's that she really didn't want to be standing next to her like that.

I think it was highly inappropriate of the mother-in-law. I mean who's the bride? Is it a double wedding? I can't believe this.

So what is your take you guys? Here's the picture:

Not only is it tacky, but she looks terrible on her. To be more tactful, I'll say she doesn't where the dress well at all. She must have not read that wedding etiquette book.;-)

Probably not the best way to start a relationship with your in-laws. But I do notice the bridesmaids in black, so in fairness to the MIL, is it possible that the bride wanted everybody in black and white? If so, I don't think I'd want to wear black as the MIL, but even if white had been requested, she should have opted for a less bridal like fashion. ICK!

I was thinking that, too.
And BLACK for bridesmaids? (though those dresses sure look a lot better than those flouncy, shiny, ruffly, bright colored dresses some bridesmaids are forced to wear).

And maybe she wanted the "mothers" to wear a dress similar to hers. Is there a picture with her mother somewhere?

Tackey as all hell! I won't even wear off-white to a wedding! It's the brides day to shine, no one elses!

My MIL asked me what she should wear. I told her I thought she looked great in bold colors like red and royal blue. She wore one of those...think it was blue...

That is so wrong...the poor bride. What the hell is wrong with that woman? That is not a good way to start the MIL/DIL relationship.

She didn't post a pic with her mom.
But I know she didn't want anyone else wearing white or anything similar to hers. She posted that she was very upset but didn't say anything. She said she bit her lip.

Also, even if she wore white it didn't have to be with lace and beading like a wedding dress. If she'd worn a white suit, for example, I can see it looking more acceptable. But that number is chiffon, with beading, and lace!

I just remember that BOTH of my husband's sisters wore white to our wedding! (I must have blocked that out like the trauma it was!).
We get along now, 23 yrs. later, but it really didn't help us get off to a great start.

I always go by the rule "Never wear all black or all white to a wedding."

Yes, I agree, the MIL was definitely trying to compete with her new DIL. What a shame.

That is horrible! But I also agree that black bridesmaids dresses are pretty weird. Just my opinion, but it looks so stark, especially since the men have black on, too. ?

Some people are out to lunch! The bride should get the photo retouched somehow with the MIL wearing a different colour and then send her the picture}(
The bridesmaids dresses were not floor length so I don't think MIL's dress should have been either. (But that's the least of the problem!)

Honestly, I was really surprised that my mother and my MIL didn't pull this same trick. I have a photo in the dressing room of me sitting on the floor waiting to get my dress on and them, huddled together trying to fix their flowers. I ended up helping them, then they left the room and I put my dress on myself.

It's horrible, but also really sad. My mom wasn't helpful at all with any of the planning, kept mentioning how she didn't get a wedding of her own (!!??!?!) because her mom butted in and planned the whole thing. I ended up having to just let her pout and go for my own happiness. Some mom's just DON'T GET IT. You can either get upset and let it ruin your own stuff, or laugh like I did on the floor, and ask the photographer for some evidence of the weirdness. Looks like this bride has that!! I hope she can be okay with it eventually.

The nice thing is that if the MIL was trying to make a point of some sort she has failed miserably. The only thing she has succeded in doing is looking like an mean spirited woman and most people would recognise that. I think the bride looks stunning and if she smiled through her day, good for her!! She took the high road and I hope she continues to do so!

Massive red flags here - this family looks taylor-made for the Dr. Phil show - "My Mother-In Law Ruined My Wedding!" Or, the classic "Mother-In-Law from Hell" show. He seems to have several shows like this every year. These wedding questions make a great case for eloping!! But then, the poor bride STILL would have the MILFH!
Just Do It! :)

OMG I can't believe she would have the nerve! It does look like a wedding dress - how sad!

BTW, the rest of the wedding party looked lovely. If she could only cut off part of the picture it would look great!

Dani, I know you read the original post where the bride posted this picture, but the MIL seems very uncomfortable in this dress. If the MIL wanted to be thoughtless and wear white, you think she would of chosen a different shape. This shape does nothing to flatter her figure. That is why it was incredibly hard to believe that the MIL would choose something so unflattering. When I first saw the pic I thought the bride chose a black and white theme and insisted on the mother's wearing white. I would love to know what her mother wore. It's crazy if the MIL did this intentionally as the bride says.
