more sweat= metabolism increase????

Cathlete
a question for anyone who has a clue....i have been sweating alot quicker and more profusly lately...(within the first 5 min of cathe's workouts (imax 2 and C&W premix)and for longer after i have completed a workout...but i am not winded or overly exerting myself. I have my thermostat on 65 degrees! Does this mean that possibly my metabolism is kicking it up a notch? I am not drinking any more water than usual. What is going on???

I've heard that the better shape that you are in the easier your body will sweat, because it's easier for you body to start cooling itself off. If I'm wrong someone, please correct me, but I believe that is what I read once. It sounds strange, because I remember when I was growing up thinking that the better shape you are in the less you are going to sweat, but it's the opposite.

If that is true about the more you sweat the better shape you are in then I must have always been in good shape?....I have always sweated quickly and like crazy, in fact I sometimes find it a bit embarrasing...:)...Carole

From the little I know, a fit body is MORE efficient at recognizing when it needs to cool down and not overheat during a workout. (Sweating helps that process) Another sign of cardio fitness, is the amount of time it takes for your heart rate to come down. The shorter recovery time, the fitter you are.

However, excessive sweating can also happen if you are terribly UNFIT and your working out WAY TOO HARD for your cardio fitness (I know this doesnt apply to you)

If your JUST sweating alot, and theres no other body distress signs, then you need to increase your water sips throughout your workout. Theres alot of sodium and potasium lost through sweat.

Im no expert in this area though, so please enlighten me if Im wrong anyone

Out of interest MEN sweat 80% MORE than woman when they workout due to their muscle mass - and as if you didnt know - they also SMELL more!

Okay, the sweating mechanism is interesting, but what I'm wondering is, if it takes your heart rate forever to get up in your target zone and then a little longer for it to make up its mind to stay there (so it seems), what does that mean? I've been told that that means you're pretty fit. Just like the faster recovery (lowering of heart rate, sweating) when you're taking the intensity down. BTW, I'm really working hard once the warm-up is complete. Oh, and doing step with Cathe gets my hr up there pretty fast:)

well thank all of you for taking time to answer. I am not in great shape...but i have been faithfully doing cahte for 3 weeks now and the major sweat thing is a recent development so mabey i am finally getting something accomplished..we'll see.
