More options for the uncoordinated among us!

After trying (again) Body Max 2 and Low Impact Circuit I am still left feeling frustrated with the step choreography. I can never seem to get the hang of it and end up giving up.

I far prefer the more "athletic" style" workouts available such as Drill Max and Kick Max and I return to these over and over again. Would love to see more DVD options like these ones in the future. I love that these workouts are tough, advanced and satisfying but with very do-able choreography. With these workouts, I can give more thought to the level of output instead of tripping over my two left feet.

I love the intensity of Cathe's workouts and I will continue to try them out - but here is hoping she hears my distress call and creates more tough workouts with simpler choreography for the likes of me!

I second this request. I much prefer the athletic workouts to step. I find the choreography "challenging" from the perspective that it's not broken down and even more, it's not as well-cued throughout the workout. And I can follow choreography, as I've had 12 years of dance training and pick stuff up pretty quickly. It's also easier to modify the athletic workouts for apartment living than the step sequences are.

I'm with you on this, but I understand, too, that Cathe has many fans who love the complex choreography. I would like to see more non-step, simple, athletic-style workouts in general. The less equipment, the better!

My big thing is less big jumps. I can (eventually) get the complicated footwork but I, too, would like more athletic style stepping.

I hope that Cathe continues to offer a variety of athletic as well as more complex routines.

I agree with this too!!!! I've tried the step routines over and over again but I'm hopeless! I can handle most of LoMax (that's fairly straight forward) but once Cathe starts adding turns and dance steps I'm lost! I've been frustrated to the point of tears and have actually fallen off the step in the process of trying to learn the IMAX 2 and Step Blast routines (I'm that uncoordinated). I also love the kickboxing routines and Drill Max. I'd love to see an all-out cardio workout (no weights and NO STEP!)...maybe a 60 minute Boot Camp without the weights!

I TOTALLY agree! It's scary how disasterous my trying to do step has become. I've given up on it. But I do love the athletic and weights DVDs like Bootcamp, Step, Jump and Pump (sans the "Step" portion), Butts and Guts, etc. That's why I was bummed to find out that you can't purchase the Four Day Split separately. One DVD is all step and the other is Bootcamp/Weights. I wish we could just get the Bootcamp combo without having to get the step DVD.

I am really looking forward to the new bootcamp and kickboxing DVDs in the four day split. I am certain these workouts will actually surpass Cathe's usual high quality, advanced level, results oriented workouts! I am less excited about the step workouts due to the more complicated choreography and frustration factor, but I will give them an honest try anyway. I absolutely LOVE Cathe's other bootcamp, drill max and kickbox athletic style DVDs and hope to see many more like them available over time. With those DVDs, I always feel worked over at an advanced level without falling on my face. I generally like circuits and enjoy mixing weights with cardio, but I agree that it would be great to have more options that allow for the choice of choosing a tough lengthy workout; or a short intense one to fit time constraints. Also, all cardio premix options are fabulous options for those days we are giving the weights a rest. Also, someone out there had a great idea about kickbox circuits in another thread and I think that is a brilliant idea!!!

I agree. I'm also uncoordinated and can only do the easier step tapes or modify the harder ones. I love the athletic drills and there are so few tapes with that kind of hard intensity.

I'm another one who would appreciate more athletic/bootcamp type workouts. I love workouts that I can just jump into and work hard. I'm not a big fan of highly choreographed workouts. I am so looking forward to the new kickbox and bootcamp workouts. The bootcamp drills sound amazing.

The upside is the new cardio step workouts are only 30 minutes of the tape, so maybe easier to digest. At the very least, it's only 30 minutes of time spent frustrated versus the others that are much longer. I LOVE the previous posters idea of kickboxing circuit workout.
To the other ladies - do not put yourself down by saying you are uncoordinated or challenged, etc. I really hate seeing people here doing that to themselves because they don't "get" the step workouts. Step works for some and not for others. Some prefer athletic workouts, some running or spinning, etc. Find what you connect with. If you don't connect with it - it's not your fault. Just move on to the next style and find what makes you happy - it's what you will ultimately end up doing, and that's whats important.

Great post, thanks for the encouraging words. I agree that at the end of the day the fact that we're all getting out there trying different things to keep ourselves challenged at an advanced level is a great thing! I can't speak for all, but I suspect most of us here using words like "uncoordinated" and referring to "two left feet" are just poking a bit of fun at ourselves, tonge firmly in cheek.

What works for one does not necessarily work for all. This thread is really just speaking to those of us who do much better with the less complicated choreography (which is not at all the same as saying less advanced). Enjoying the more athletic style intense workouts makes us no worse or better than anyone else - just different! Except of course that we all have in common the fact that we love the challenge only Cathe can bring. Keep up the good work everyone and thanks again for reminding us that we are all on the right track, regardless of our preferred fitness styles!

As a completely uncoordinated person I have to say that I too was completely overwhelmed by Cathe's step workouts. The best advice I ever received was to purchase one of her beginning step workouts and practice it until I got it down. I next worked my way through Low Max which IMO is one her easier step w/outs. I also watch the DVDs before trying them. There are still times when a routine is hard to master but I plug away and make modifications as necessary. So....with a little work and patience you too can benefit from the more advanced step workouts. If I can do it you can.
