more info about burn the fat, feed the muscle e-book, please!

i went to the site about this book... and read what has been written about it on a couple of the forums... and it sounds like a good book... however.. i'm leary of paying $39.00 for a download vice a book.....

at least if i could walk into a book store and leaf through it.. to make sure i really want this book.. it would be easier to spend the money...

so.. for those of you that have it or have read it: is it more of the same eat healthy, eat complex carbs, less sugar? etc? which of course, i already know and do? or does it go more in depth (and how?)

thanx!

Hi! I ordered this book and am working my way through it right now. This book has very specific information about nutrition and exercise in which you can build a personalized plan for your particular body type, in which to lose fat off your body. It also has a very good chapter on goal setting and the psychological reasons why we sabotage our fitness efforts, and how to overcome that through positive thinking. It pinpoints reasons why you may be at a plateau and how to break through it. There is specific info about how to create an eating and exercise plan just for you. This book is the most in depth I've seen, but yet is readable and understandable. I feel that this book is clearing up a lot of my confusion caused by the fitness and nutrition industries, and will give me a clear cut plan on how to lose the fat, and maintain health for life. Hope this helps....Pam :D

It is the epitome of in-depth! It helps you break down exactly how many calories you need in order to maintain or to lose weight, how many grams of carbs, protein and fat you should eat for each meal, what foods are good fuel and which ones you should never eat..

He also explains about goal-setting and how essential it is to progress. It's tempting to skip over that part as new-agey, but I think it's very important to take it seriously.

I was skeptical about buying the book, but I am so glad I did. I always knew it was important to eat 5 small meals a day, but I never made an effort to do it. The book gave me the kick in the pants I needed and in the few short weeks I've been eating 5 meals per day, the weight is just melting off.

ETA: Pam, glad to hear you are finding the book helpful!

RE: more info about burn the fat, feed the muscle e-boo...

I also wavered on whether or not to get the e-book and finally took the plunge and got it about 4 weeks ago. I read it cover to cover. I won't repeat what the others have already said, I'll just concur. Another biggie is it enables me to really track my progress very specifically, right down to lean body mass gains/losses, and body fat gain/losses. Now I can see how I did each week and use this feedback to alter my approach, or keep doing what seems to be working. He also gives you strategies depending on each week's outcome.

My hubby was actually able to print the whole thing out for us at work and we now have 90% of it in a binder in plastic sheet protectors. I'm always referring back to it, quite consistently. I'm glad I have such extensive information to look back to because I can't keep it all in my head permanently!

With Tom's book and Cathe's workouts, and this board, I've got a winning combination!

RE: more info about burn the fat, feed the muscle e-boo...

Hi, I am interested in buying the book too but I am concerned about the lack of scientific support for his claims. For eample, there are no peer reviewed scientific articles supporting the claim that certain combinations of food can rev up the metabolism and help burn fat faster. I know this is only one teaching in the book. What about others? Does he back it up with peer reveiwed articles that you can look up or is it only anectodal and based on his and others experiences. I can't browse through an e-book and find out for myself. If anyone with the book can comment, I would appreciate it as I have been debating whether to put money into it.
Thanks.

RE: more info about burn the fat, feed the muscle e-boo...

I guess you have to be a risk taker type person. I couldn't do it. Big money for me to print out that many pages. He could make it a book if it's so good.

I used to be on a body building site and really, honest, they never heard of him.

So I stepped back. I think if anyone has anything on here, and someone says it's good, someone is going to buy it. Like you know these people also? If you could check it out without putting your money into it, fine but without seeing more about it.

ah ah ah.

RE: more info about burn the fat, feed the muscle e-boo...

He doesn't really claim that ANY food combination is the magic bullet, he just gives you a baseline to work with and then you are to determine by your own experience if it works for you, but you have to start somewhere. He says if eating 70% of your calories from carbs for example is working well for you and you are healthy, then keep doing that. That sounds extreme, but he was making a point, there are of course universal laws that you must pay attention to.

I appreciate people who don't claim that their way is the answer. So I don't really think he could scientifically defend his views since he doesn't really preach a certain eating program. Now he does of course give a suggested way you could start eating your meals which is basically common sense stuff, plus it's what has worked well for his clients. Then you tweak it according to how your body responds, you become responsible for finding what works best for you. This has worked great for me.

I agree that you do need to be a bit of a risk taker (or painfully curious!) when buying an e-book sight unseen, but thankfully for me it ended up being a very satisfying purchase......phew!! ;-)

So if you have any reservations at all, go with your instincts and skip it. I don't even necessarily agree with everything he says, but it's PACKED with lots of info I find very useful. BUT there's lots of great reputable books even at the library about nutrition that are well worth reading.....for free! It's not like Tom's book is the end all and be all of how to get great results.

sorry this ended up being so long!

RE: more info about burn the fat, feed the muscle e-boo...

I should also add that he does reference books like Cliff Sheat's "Lean Bodies", and Udo Erasmus's "Fats That Heal, Fats that Kill" and various other books through the book.

He's made my wish list for books get longer which my wallet doesn't appreciate! ;-)

Oh and he only has one chapter on cardio and one on weight training but he gives lots of suggestions for books that are totally focused on those topics.

From what I have read and some sample articles written by him that seemed to cover some of what is in the book, I think it looks good....I am just peeved that you can't buy it as a book.

$39 and I still have to use up all my own paper. $39 is more than a hardcover book! If someone had something similar in real print I'd buy that instead. The articles I have read by him are GREAT. So I don't doubt the info is good, or valid, or whatever.

I know in the paper publishing industry the publisher tends to eat all the profit so that could be why he did it. But he should say so.

So is the book a good purchase if you are a vegetarian? I'm always interested in reading up on healthy lifestyles, but I don't want to buy the book if it has no relevance for someone who doesn't eat meat.

RE: more info about burn the fat, feed the muscle e-boo...

It's a good book, but I can't get into e-books. You can't take them to bed with you, or sit with them in the bathroom, or bookmark the pages or whatever. I hate reading long books on the computer. Printing it out is very expensive.

I bought it, and that is my only complaint. I would've happily bought a real book for the same price.
