Gosh, I am still just AMAZED at the difference in my son's quality of work!! Not only does he stay on task, he's getting his work done fast! Today he brought home some art-work and it was fantastic!! Instead of just scribbling all over the page, I could tell what it was and it was sooo neat! His writing skills are also vastly improved. Once again, I can actually read what he is writing and his thoughts are coherant!!!!

He keeps saying how he's having the best time at school and the work is actually really easy!!!!!!::D:D He even has almost said that school is fun and he enjoys it!!

Again, thank you all sooo much!!

Pam- a much more relaxed and happy mom!!!

Hugs,
Pam

Pam, it sounds like your son might have a "straightforward" case of ADD. If so, then I think you are well on your way to finding the right suppports for him. Congratulations! I think that's the exception rather than the rule.

Don't be surprised if he needs to change meds down the road. Take note of all his improvements and keep track.

Oh, and do what I didn't do.....keep a log of what he takes and the dates started and stopped so that if you need to change you can quickly answer questions relating to his regimen.....unlike me who now has to dig through umpteen million emails and notes to try to recreate the sequence from scratch :( ...for two kids.

Enjoy these days! I am very happy for you!

congrats on finding the solution. My son started on meds in 4th grade. I always knew something was off but wasn't sure what.( and I even teach at his school). The right medicine makes all the difference. My son is smart but would ace a spelling test and then fail the dictation over the same words. It was like there were chunks of his day missing. My husband thought it was just him being a little boy. But since I help him with his homework, I could tell he was getting beaten down. Now he is about to finish 7th grade and is signed up for Honors Algebra and Honors English next year. Last night as he was working on a review he actually asked for a booster to help him through the essays. We have had to adjust a little bit as he has grown.
As a teacher I know quite a few kids who have miraculous changes thanks to the right meds. I know some parents struggle with the thought of medicating their children. And it is a personal choice. But what I point out is that most of the meds are stimulants....but yet they calm down your otherwise hyper child. That should speak volumes to the need.
Good luck with your journey.

thank you both sooo much!! Suzanne, that is such a great recommendation regarding tracking the start and stop days. Oh my gosh, the relief we are ALL experiencing is just incredible!!

Thank you all again!

Pam
