MONDAY 5/31 workout

Hello girls,

Dreary day over here.

Did a very stupid thing today. You know how you always tell your kids not to run down the stairs on their socks? Well I changed into my running clothes and went downstairs, shoes in hand. I slipped and hurt both (!) my knees x( How dumb can a mum get?

I went running anyway, yes not a smart thing to do, but we already established I was a dumb mum:7 I started out slowly and ran 3K (in 22.19min) as a warm up. Then turned around and did my version of a fartlek. Run 4min at HR165 then slow down for 2min at HR155 to recover. It took me only three repeats to get back to my starting point with 20seconds to spare ;-) I read somewhere that doing fartleks once a week would help increase my speed. I would love to run a little faster. Run 5K in sub 30min and 10K in 60min tops. I'd still not be a hare, but at least I can leave the turtle brigade behind me.

I have been meaning to ask you experienced runners: I always run up an overpass over a 4-lane highway when I run. Both going out as well as coming back. Does this count as "hill work"?

Have a very nice day ladies, I'll be icing my knees after I have done abs and core and watch a new DVD I bought: Master and Commander with Russel Crowe.

Dutchie....careful with those knee's!!! It's good you still could run without pain, but I bet they will be bruised...I am glad I have no stairs..:D . Yes fartleks will make you faster as any form of speedwork will. As for "Hill Training" I think usually that is sprinting up the hill then jogging down and repeating. What I do because I run in a hilly neighborhood is sprint up every hill on my run. Usually about 5-10 hills. Today I have planned P90X Chest & Back plus Ab RipperX. I might add PLB floor legs and a short cardio too. Still feel guilty about not running too far yesterday... x( ..have a great day ladies...:)...Carole

Hi Carole,

You don't have to feel guilty, you run a lot as it is:)

There's no hills in my area, province or country for that matter. This is the Netherlands, as flat as a pancake:) :7

Ok this morning late I did Slow & Heavy Chest, then did the step aerobics and abs off of Body Max. Following the same rotation as last week but just substituting different cardio than I did last week. Variety is the name of the game. It is cool and rainy here for Memorial Day but when I think about it since we have lived here I don't think we have ever had a warm sunny Memorial Day!!:( This was the first year we weren't involved in the parade, we slept in the power went out this morning heard lots of sirens so there must have been an accident. Just wish is was sunny then I could lay out in my new swimsuit!!!:) Oh well maybe tomorrow!!:D

Have a great workout!!:D :7 :)

Hello Everyone

Dutchie, can you run up that ramp several times not just once? That would make a nice hill training. Careful with that knee, girl.

I had a very good workout today. Started out with 30 min NordicTrack, this time 2 min intervals in the last 16 min -- hr up to 175!
After that P90X Back & Chest. Oh, man. The more I do it the harder it gets, since I do better form and more repetitions. I did push ups 12-15 on toes and did some more on my knees until I felt right on my face on the mat and spread out like a frog. I spent many minutes in "child pose" today.. This is one excellent tough workout.
AbRipper was the icing on the cake at the end. Now I aim for the couch and won't get up for a while....

How was your P90X Carole?

Annette, you also had one tough session today. You go girl!

Enjoy the rest of the day ladies!:)

Hello everybody. Dutchie I hope you get your knees back in shape. That fall must've hurt though.

We had a beautiful day today. Not at as hot and humid as yesterday, but still sunny and bright. I did Baron Baptiste's Soul of Strength. As usual in a not too bright room, no A/C, just me, my towel, my mat, water, and Baron. :)

I hope everybody has a great week. Keep on moving and I'll check in tomorrow.

Sounds like good workouts all along...Annette I was lucky and had sun....but no new suit..:(...I know you will get out there in yours soon. Mari, Chest & Back was tough, like you said. All push-ups on my toes and focused on getting as low as I could. Started with 15 then went to 12 but those Dive Bombers!!! Still 8-10...yeow!! I did squeeze in about 30 min from Imax Extreme for cardio. You did awesome on the Nordic...:)...Carole
