Moms 2 Be Check In: July 10

Dana - we're on hold for now, but will be moving to the Harrisburg area within the next 12 months (or so DH's boss has told him...) No definite date, but it's looming in the future. Our families are within a few hours of us now, so this move will put them farther away. I was thinking about trying to stay close to the major interstates/turnpike for travel purposes, so Carlisle or Mechanicsburg are my current picks.

Melanie - I understand about DH - I meant that it must have been hard to not have him there to share the moment and it might be good leverage for something sparkly ;) (never miss an opportunity for jewelry - one of my grandmother's tips!!) We, too, live over an hour away from the hospital, so I can relate to the travel issues with an older sibling to take care of. I had nightmares worrying about where I'd be when my water broke

Trish - I'm preg with #3, too - does that make us "three for three"? :) I have a 3yo and an 18 mo. They were both in diapers for about half a year, and it wasn't bad at all. #2 is just starting to try to use the potty - we may get lucky and she'll be trained by the time #3 gets here.

The Gruesome Threesome? Hee hee. Yes, this will be quite an adjustment for us. Our two kids now are 10 years apart. These last two will be 22 months apart! I"m ready for the challenge though!!! I'm so lucky b/c dh stays home with the kids, so there are no daycare issues. I"m also double lucky b/c I work parttime so I"m able to be home with the kids a lot. :D
We're not going to find out the sex for this baby. DH feels pretty strong that this will be the last one though. With two boys, a girl would be nice. However, boys are lots of fun. I"m praying for a healthy baby, God can pick the sex. ;)

Personally, I'm ready for the chaos  I mean, how crazy could it get, right? :D DH and I figure that you can't less than NO sleep, so we won't have any problems... Really, it's not that bad. (My hair probably would have started to go grey, anyway, and these bags under my eyes may someday be fashionable :) )

We have two girls and after my 20-week u/s, yesterday, are pretty sure there's one more on the way. They are a lot of fun - although, I'm sure we would enjoy ANY gender. We weren't hoping for one or the other, but with the first two didn't find out the sex util 'birthday', so DH thought it would be fun to try one where we find out ahead of time. His family has been SOOOOOOO sure it's a boy - I told him that HE has to tell them, because I don't want to deal with that kind of disappointment.

I've been thinking about whether this will be it for us or if we should consider more. My main concern is that I think an even number of children is easier - three is always a two-against-one kind of thing. You can tell the morning sickness is getting better if I'm on this train of thought!! ;)

We were excited to find out that #3 is healthy with the proper number of all body parts. There seemed to be some interest in the heart, but they didn't say anything, so it may have been nothing. I'll see my dr. in a few weeks, but figured they'd call sooner if there was trouble, right?

Hey, before I forget, has anyone heard of an anti-nausea drug called Phenergan? I met a woman who is taking it and thinks it's a MIRACLE maker. I just googled it and it says the risks to unborn children are not known, so not to take it while pregnant?!?! Just wondered if anyone had taken it or knew of it.

phenergan info

Phenergan is for nausea and it is category C, therefore maternal benefit must outweigh risk to the baby...and there are other meds for nausea, such as Zofran, that are safer (category B). The fewer meds the better, but if you gotta you gotta...Zofran is safer but much more expensive (I know mommas that wouldn't have held down ANYTHING in the 1st trimester without it!)
from a lurker who is about ready to join in (don't want to jinx anything!!!) :)

RE: phenergan info

I'm a pharmacist and very cautious with recommending anything while pregnant. With that said, Vitamin b6 works for some folks. As does doxylamine. Both are available without a prescription.
Phenergan, as listed above is category C, as many medications dispensed during pregnancy. Zofran is category B, but VERY VERY expensive. I'm talking over $300 for a handful of meds. It's usually reserved for chemo patients or pregos that are so nauseated that they're in the hospital.
Hope that helps.
BTW, are you feeling a little pressure to have #4 if #1=3 are all the same sex? We may have the same dilema...

RE: phenergan info

Thanks for the info! I was really surprised that my dr. hadn't mentioned anything pharmaceutical, but that explains why. My practice is pretty conservative, especially for a relatively urban group. The woman I was talking to is from the D.C. area and said that her dr's group is really in touch with the 'needs of the working woman'. They do a lot of elective C-sections, inductions to meet a work schedule, etc. Just a different philosophy, I guess. I'm somewhere in the middle. I have no problem with getting the best modern medicine can provide, but am willing to let mother nature do her thing if possible.

Melanie - We're just telling our families now, so there hasn't been any time for them to pressure us. As for internal thoughts, I originally wanted 6 kids - that was before I even met DH, so it was just my idle dreaming. When we finally met and married, I was past 30, so I accepted that 6 may not be a possibility. I think 4 is doable, but don't know what we'll decide. DH was kind of freaked out by the genetic statistics with this one, so he's more on the fence than ever. Up until that, he's always said that whatever I want is fine. I guess we'll see.

What about you? Are you thinking about it now or are you decided? I don't know how old you are, but does that play a factor for you, or is it gender/space/time and energy issues? (there are sooooo many things to think about, my head could explode! :D )

As I mentioned, I like an even number, just for family happiness, but am still in 'think' mode. Some days I feel 100% ready to do this again, others, I just feel too tired... :)

RE: phenergan info

GraceNote, I'll be 32 tomorrow, so I do have a little bit of time on my hands. However, DH is sure he doesn't want anymore. Thoughts change, so we'll see. He's a stay at home Dad, so he definitely has pull in this area. :D
I've been really tired with this pregnancy too. An I have ZERO libido. Poor DH. I"ve been really trying but with fatique and then no sex drive...I wouldn't blame him if he didn't want another pregnancy for that reason alone!!! Anyone else struggle with this during pregnancy?

Oh, with the even number thing, since my oldest is 11 yrs old, I think my three would actually be an even number?
