Mizuno running shoes for Cathe's work outs too?

For the longest time I've only had to buy running shoes because that's what I did for cardio 5-6 days a week. However, now that I have found Cathe since Dec/Jan I've been doing Imax 2, KPC, KM,LM, SB, etc. for cardio, in addition to some outside runs (when I can get out of the house) or the treadmill 3x's a week.

So, my question is do I need a cross training type of shoe for all the different cardio types? If so, which would be good? Can I just use my Mizuno's? I had the Wave Rider 7's, but recently purchased Wave inspire? I figured that running is all impact, so my Mizuno's would be OK for Cathe's work outs.

I did have a hip flexor problem about a month ago. It seems to be better, but every now and again it will give me a little yell.

Thanks for any input you can provide.

Alright, I'm not a serious athlete, so you probably shouldn't listen to anything I say :) - but my motto when it comes to shoes is "If they are comfortable, wear them." I don't even pay attention to what the shoe is supposedly "designed" for. I think the shoes I am wearing for my workouts now are "walking" shoes, but they are darn comfortable for my weird feet, so I use them for step aerobics, kickboxing, weight lifting, and whatever else Cathe has me doing. I hardly even do any walking in them (I don't wear them outside the house - they are for my home workouts only). I've not had any problems/injuries from wearing walking shoes for other activities. So, I can't imagine you'd have any problems wearing running shoes for other activities. :)

Gee, I'm not very helpful, am I? :) I think there is such a thing as a step aerobic shoe, but I don't know who makes them or where to find them. I'm sure someone around here knows something. :D

Just my opinion as a runner. I use running shoes for running and cardio or crosstraining shoes for other cardio. Mizuno might make an aerobic type shoe?? I use Freddy's but you can't get them in the US anymore...http://bestsmileys.com/fainting/1.gif[/img] I know others will post....:)...Carole

Hi Dallas. I'm a runner and I love my Mizuno's (Alchemy). However, I do not wear my running shoes for anything other than running. Running shoes are not designed for lateral movement. I wear Ryka aerobic shoes for Cathe workouts. I have had hip issues in the past too (ITB) and proper shoes are definately a big part of keeping injuries at bay.

I have a friend that is a personal trainer and she wears (Brooks running shoes) when she teach's step??? She swears by them!! I myself do not run so I always buy crosstrainers, but I am tempted to TRY the Brooks??

Thanks everyone!

Carole and runninggal that's what I thougth that running shoes are for running and a cross trainer for everything else.

Runninggal, how do you like the Alchemy? I went to an actual running store and he fit my foot. The Inspire was the second pair he brought out. The reason I got those over the Wave Rider 8 is because they seemed to have a little more support. I was thinking Cathe when I bought the Inspire.

NicoleP, I have a friend that wears Brooks. She loves them too.

Emily, did you ever try my choc. chip recipe? I saw another post from you about another cookie recipe. I think I'll have to get that one from you, too. It sounded like a healthier version?:9

Thanks, Dallas

Dallas,

How are you enjoying switching to Cathe over some of your running days? I run 3x's a week and rotate pyramids, gym styles and boot camp for strength. I live in New England and come Fall I won't run as much. Is Imax 2 the best cardio tape for me to start out with? I wear Adidas for running and Nike Shox for Cathe..I never heard of Mizuno but now I am curious.

Hi Chrissy,

When I first found out about Cathe that's all I wanted to do. I didn't feel like running anymore. Maybe I was burnt out. However, lately I've been missing my runs and have been adding them back in. At this point, I'm right where you are with some running 3x's a week and the other 4 cardios I currently do Imax 2, KM, KPC, and LM. My running days I also do weights too. I try to do 2 body parts at a time because of time constraints or pyramids, GS (I don't have all of them yet), or L&G.

>Is Imax 2 the best cardio tape or me to start out with?

Are you familiar with step because that's what Imax 2 is with these insane blasts (that I actually have come to love...glutton for punishment I guess)? She does a step routine and then she does a blast after the step routine. There's 10 intervals!}( If you have never done step you may get frustrated with it. I know that there is a BS + BF (Basic step + Body Fusion) available for beg/int. If you like kick boxing KPC is really fun and if you get the DVD you get the awesome leg work out L&G. I hope that helps. You know if you have any other questions, I'll be more than happy to help you, but there's also a video forum where you can post questions and get lots of valuable feedback from others who are waaayyyy more knowledgeable than little ole me!;-)

I've only had Nike and New Balance, and this is my second pair of Mizuno's. I really like them. I usually know when I have to replace my shoes because my knees start aching when I run with the other shoes. I've had my 1st pair of Mizuno's for a year (oops!) and have been running away in them never had any knee trouble.

Hope all this helps! Welcome aboard!

Dallas:)

I appreciate the feedback. I love this forum...it helps so much. I am realizing there are so many components to being fit. I don't have a step background but want something that challenges me. I love Bootcamp. Maybe I will give a beginner step video a try.

Thanks again for the help,
Chrissy
