MIS and Power Hour

I do the firm videos for my weight training and want something new. I bought Power Hour but have yet to try it, tho it looks awesome! I have dumbells ranging from 3-12 lbs. Do I need a barbell for this tape? I'd like to purchase MIS as well... can I use dumbells for this tape too? If I can afford to purchase a barbell, what kind, how much will it cost, and where should I buy it? I want to work with these 2 tapes using dumbells in the meantime, and any advice and suggestions are much appreciated! Thanks to the educated cathe crowd!

barbell

I bought a used barbell & several plates at Play it Again Sports. They sell new & used sports equipment. I live in CA but I think they are all over the country. The barbell I got was a plane iron York barbell with 5-lb and 10-lb plates. It's simple, cheap, and indestructable. I think the whole set cost like $30. I would definitely check out used sports equipment places like Play it Again because the used sets are just as good as new but much less expensive. You could always search ebay, but I imagine the shipping charges on a barbell would be pretty high. As far as MIS & PH, I'm sure you can use dumbells during curls and still get good results, just make sure to use proper form with challenging weight!

Good luck to you!

RE: barbell

Thanks for the suggestion... I think I've seen a Play it again sports around here, now that you mention it! I have a barbell but I don't know how much it weighs... I have trouble finding a comfortable barbell weight and think it's much easier to just pick up dumbells than to switch out plates on the bar, you know? How do you easily find the right weight on a barbell? I hate to waste workout time and don't want to spend my first time doing MIS constantly switching out weights... any advice on this? Thanks again!

RE: barbell

Well there's no easy way to find out what barbell weight is best. You've just gotta do it and find out and realize that workout day may not be your most intense or productive. Or, you can do MIS/Power Hour on your "rest" day to test out which weight works best. As far as switching weights, I solved that problem by buying two barbells. At the used sporting good stores it's really not too expensive. In my collection I have two 5 ft barbells, 2 sets of 2.5 lb weight plates, 2 sets of 5 lb weight plates and 1 set of 10 lb weight plates. I'm thinking I purchased all of this for about $50 and it was well worth it. I keep one barbell loaded with "heavy" weights and the other with "moderate" weights so I dont have to switch weight plates, just barbells. For dumbells I have 5, 8, 10, 12 and 15 lbs. I think Power Hour is much more fun using a barbell. MIS can be modified quite easily with dumbells as there are quite a few exercises on that tape that has Cathe already using dumbells. Hope this helps.

RE: barbell

Oh, thank you so much! I was hesitant about purchasing MIS but after reading all the reviews and with your advice, it sounds like a good investment. Thanks!
