Mini Skirts After Age 35

I say if it looks good...go for it! If not, don't. Personally I don't wear them but only b/c my legs are too chubby. Once I ever hit my goal trust me, I'll be wearin' a mini if I can pull it off :)

At 45, I think as long as you have the legs and butt to wear a mini skirt and if your married and hubby doesn't mind, GO FOR IT LOL..... Rhonda

Ha. I always wonder how young is ok to dress. I don't wear skirts -legs not my best body part but do wear low jeans and shirts that just show a hint of skin.

Re the mini skirt, it's all in how you pull it off. As long as you don't have that "she looks so hot from behind and then the shock of a much older face.... I know it's crazy but that is just so bad. I know a couple of woman who have that and funny it results in them looking SOOO much older and everyone comments on it. Gosh I sound judgemental sorry!

I also love mini skirt and I am 37, but, I have 3 young daughters and some of the moms think it is inappropriate for me to dress young, they say I need to dress more like a mom. I love wearing things that show off all of the hard work that I have done, but with that said, I don't want my girls to think that women always have to show off their bodies. It is a tough call sometimes for me since I have 3 very impressionable girls. I do love dressing fashionable and fun.

I wear them all summer long and I am 44 also. And, I often get compliments on my legs.

Oprah had a discussion about this on her show a year or two ago. I am sorry, but I turned off the TV. Sorry Oprah, but I have to disagree with her on this one. I will wear what I think looks best on me, and I think a mini skirt looks really good on me. I have sold plenty of them on Ebay as I have always modeled them, but I don't really wear them because I am just not a mini skirt girl only because I am afraid to bend over in them, etc.

I wouldn't wear one, but I've never been one to wear them anyway. I guess I wore them a lot when I was in my early to mid twenties. But then I wanted a more "professional" look for work and went to skirts no more than 2 inches above the knee, or better yet - pantsuits.

I would feel like a tart if I put one on now. Or that I was trying to pretend I was still in my twenties.

All of my pants and jeans are low-rise these days. But that's because I'm short-waisted and they just look better. I never show my belly. I'm just not comfortable doing that.

And now this new 'fad' to wear the mens
>white muscle shirts with no bras so all of their breasts are
>visible through the shirts??? Is there no shame or modesty
>being taught to girls these days?
>
I think not. I was watching some sex talk show (the one on Oxygen with the 70-something woman) and someone called in asking how they could get hard nipples that show through their clothes. One suggestion was a bra that has nipples built in (if she couldn't get her own to be perky enough).

Well the heck is wrong with people???? They may as well just scream "Rape me, rape me!" If I ever caught my daughter wearing anything like that, I would blister her butt and she wouldn't ever be allowed to leave the house, I don't care if she is 16 or 23!

I think you can't make a blanket statement that "anyone over X age shouldn't wear Y." Heck, there are women younger than 35 who shouldn't wear mini-skirts (and oh-so-many young girls with flabby guts hanging between their low-cut jeans and their crop tops). If your legs look good, then go for it. BUT be realistic: have someone take pictures of you standing from front, back and sides, and seated, so you know how you really look in them. Then, if you pass, go for it. Also, I think that as you get older, it's more appropriate to wear short skirts in perhaps fewer situations than someone in their 20's (like, not to church, not to school functions).

My issue with short skirts is that they are sometimes worn at such inappropriate times (as other people have pointed out). I work in a professional financial setting and here the expectation is that dress is appropriate, which generally means not too tight and definitely not too short or revealing. This comment may sound like it's coming from the Dark Ages, but the reality is, dressing inappropriately at work is a real career-killer.

We used to have a woman in my dept who was beautiful, fit, and spent a fortune on clothes (really, she was a designer clothes horse, I have no idea how she could afford it). She was pretty smart but I DREADED working with her because she was so infamous throughout the company for what she was wearing. People were constantly commenting on her. She hasn't worked here in about a year but they still bring her up... that may sound shallow, but if you are in a professional setting, the Ally McBeal look really does not work!

Just my .02...

Cheers,
Marie

>>At our wedding, it was funny because DH told me that a few

>If they were commenting on how tacky she looked in a mini,
>that means that they were loving it! :p That is what my
>hubby does to conceal how he really feels. Case in point,
>"Britney Spears should cover up her stomach" (yeah, right!),
>"Pamela Anderson shouldn't wear those tight shirts, they look
>trashy" (sure!), or "Carmen Electra really should put more
>clothes on" (because she is so ugly?......). Men are so
>silly. They just don't want us to think that they are hot.

Oh, no trust me. They were grossed out by it. She was their mother's age and it reminded them of their mothers dressing like that. They were not liking it at all.

Believe it or not, there are guys out there who don't like the "slutty" look. I'm not saying mini skirts are slutty and don't mean to offend anyone. Please no offense anyone. (I'm talking about the super mini barely there, leaving nothing to the imagination kind of skirts.) It's a turn off to some guys. Not all guys are the same that's for sure! Some guys like the fake plastic look, some guys are turned off by it.

I've also known other guys who think that the plastic look is a turn off. (i.e. Pamela Andersen, Carmen Electra) They prefer the natural look like Jennifer Garner...girl next door type of look.

DH always tells me that every other woman has to compare to me and I set the standard. No one even comes close to matching me. No one can do it for him but me. I've never once seen him even glance at another woman. Awwww! What a sweetie!

Now, my ex was the total opposite. He's a totally different story.

That's so funny Dani, I just had a discussion w/the BF last night about this. We were joking around & I told him it's OK if he finds other women attractive, & he could even comment on it, as long as he followed his comments w/"but not as attractive as you." }( Later we were talking about the whole Angelina/Brad thing & he said "she's hot..........................................but not as hot as you!" I thought I was gonna die laughing. As if! I said you know what the difference between Angelina & me is? I'm here, & she's in Paris drinking champagne w/Brad. :p

That's funny! :) But your BF is right! You know why else you are hotter to him than they are? Because he LOVES you and you are a complete package inside and out. :)

If she were in the room with you, he'd still choose you and that's what love is all about!

It's also about self confidence too! Those girls don't have anything on me. :7 TeeHee! DH says they need hair and makeup artists every day and I look better than them without needing that. He says I smoke them. Awww!

Awww that is so sweet. Your hubby sounds great Dani.

I think you're right re. the confidence. I'm sure Angelina has just as much confidence as I do. But she should--she's also 10 years younger LOL.
