Mineral Makeup

I would like to know if any of you have used mineral makeup. If you have, please let me know how you liked it. I am thinking about getting some but dont want to spend the money if it doesnt give good coverage.

I use Bare Minerals makeup and I love it. I think it has excellent coverage. I didn't feel that I liked it at first and actually sent it back. I then decided to try it again and I loved it. I found out I was using a shade too dark for my skin and it looked terrible. I now use the lightest shade and I love it. I bought mine as a kit from the actual website and it also comes with a video. You can also get a pretty good deal at www.dermastore.com. I think that is the name of the website. I've ordered from there once with excellent shipping and packing.

I also use BareMinerals. Over the summer, my foundation was the perfect color, but now that I'm pale, it doesn't look as good. So try to get the right color. I use the eyeshadow, the powder eyeliner, blush, and mineral veil. They are all great. I didn't buy the video, though, and I think I need to. I think knowing how to use it is a big part of whether or not it will work for you.

Good luck :)

I have oily skin that is prone to acne. I have tried every makeup out there. I love BareMinerals makeup. It gives good coverage yet looks more natural than anything I have tried. Also, for when I break out I am going to order the concealer. I can't remember what it is called right now. But they say that it does give better coverage then using the makeup alone. Give yourself time to learn how to apply it and I think using their brushes are key. I joined the club and they will allow you to call and say you want a different color. They give you two shades to blend but I just need the lightest shade at this point b/c I hardly use any of the darker shade. If I call before my order ships out they will give me two of the lighter shades. Also I get mine delivered every 4 months. So you can go into your account and change how often your order is delivered if you join the club. I do think it is a pretty good deal. Good luck!

Hi Madonna,

Funny you should ask. I just tried Bare Minerals for the first time this week. My 11 year old daughter summed it up so well. I said, Honey, does my face any look different with this new make-up. Her reply, "WOW MOM!!! You don't look so "crinkley". Out of the mouth of babes. I won't use anything else again. I've tried Mary Kay, Clinique, Avon, Merle Norman. Finally, something worth the money. (almost anyway, I'm a tightwad). I have acne scars and you can still see some of them, but my complexion looks so much smoother and even. I highly recommend it.

Blessings,
Denise

I'm a mineral make-up ho! I've never tried BE but many people with oily skin or combo skin find that it has a shine fairly quickly. I've used Jane Iredale pressed and used it for years. Both of the above contain bismuth which accounts for the shine to the minerals when applied. It also can cause itching in some sensitive people.

My personal favs are Geografx Mineral Cosmetics and Botany 101. Botany is like a cult tho and you can only get on their waiting list for products right now. For me, it's the best but the wait time for products is ridiculous - like 2 months because she hand-mills her minerals. My second fav is Geografx for foundation. And I love her eyeshadows and blushes. Excellent customer service. Another few that people like but I've never tried are: Monave, Youngblood, Cory.

There is a knack to applying minerals and there is a trial and error period. You use much less than you actually think you need and end up with a natural, no makeup look. Just smooth, clear skin. Alexis

I just started using Bare Escentuals and really like it. It's hard to get used to at first, only because it's not covering your skin as regular foundation does. I'm hoping it'll help keep my acne prone skin on the clear side!

BTW, QVC carries the entire line. And Bisque, I believe, is the name of the concealer that was referred to earlier.

Yep, use it and LOVE it! I use it all except for mascara and sometimes lipgloss/stick. It lasts forever and the effect you get is very natural. When I first started using it I tended to use too much simply because it goes on so sheer. I've learned how much I can put on and get away with. It can be a bit messy (I've knocked over one of my jars of BLACK eyeliner and am still trying to get it all cleaned up out of the crevices in my linoleum--I guess one of these days I'll have to get down there with a brush, LOL)...still, I wouldn't go back and in all the years I've used it, that was the only time I knocked one over.

I used Bare Minerals until recently. I found that it was quick and easy to apply, and didn't look like I was wearing make-up. It took me a while to use the make-up. Last April, my job sent me to the San Francisco area, and I stopped in one of the Bare Escentuals boutiques. I got a makeover, and bought a whole bunch of products. While in the boutique, I got a brochure QVC. The brochure gives a flat shipping rate, vice shipping for each item. Also, Leslie is on QVC every once and a while to sell her newest products. The store ULTA sells bare minerals as well. One opened up near my house. I highly recommend mineral make-up. (By the way, I stopped using the make-up after an accident. I spend my days going to doctors and physical therapists, so I just need to be clean!)

I just ordered some called "sheercover" (from www.sheercover.com ). The infomercial demos looked good, and the results look natural (and there is a 60-day money back guarantee if I don't like it).

I also have Sheer Cover and love it. I've been using it for over 6 months now. Great coverage, easy to use. I find it a bit pricey, but I really do like it so I guess as long as I can afford it, I'll keep buying it.

I like the finish BE provides, but it makes me look ancient. It showed every lineunder my eyes. I still use the mineral veil, but over MAC foundation applied with a foundation brush. I'm 39, so maybe I'm too old.x(

I also use BE, alternating with Smashbox's foundation (liquid applied with a brush- very light feel on the skin). I also apply Smashbox' Photo Finish Primer after moisturizing and before foundation- it really evens lines and minimizes the look of pores so the BE looks better on my skin (I'm 44). Mineral veil is great stuff, isn't it? I've also just started using Prescriptives Magic Liquid Powder as a finish instead of the mineral veil. Makes my skin more luminous. Great thread!

Just a quick follow-up to my BE experience. Saturday I got in a fight with my facial waxing kit and lost. It wasn't (and still isn't) a pretty site. I had a family get together Sat. night and I told my sister about it. She couldn't notice at all. My Bare minerals had completely covered up all my war wounds and she couldn't even tell I was wearing make-up. My 15 year old, who is brutally honest, was shocked when she seen me after I put the make-up on. She couldn't believe it covered up my red patches. I love this junk!

Blessing,

Denise

You know, I found the same thing recently. I didn't notice, but my boyfriend made the commend that he could see every single line on my face. He said I looked 35... that would be fine, except I'm 22 :| I wasn't too pleased. My skin is doing bunches of funky things lately, though, and it's dried out. I'm not giving up on it yet! It was way too expensive :)
