Million Dollar Baby

Well, I finally rented this movie and watched it last night. Wasn't exactly the "feel good" movie of the year, eh? It was alright, but don't know what all the hype was about. And I really expected Hillary Swank to look bigger, after hearing all about how much muscle she had packed on. Maybe she's just a really small person normally? I thought Linda Hamilton in T2 looked more buff.

Agree 100% ladies, especially about the hype about Hillary's muscle gains.

This one didn't just make you cry, it made you cry for at least 1/2 the movie!

Hillary looked buff when she was jump roping, but other than that I didn't see many muscles.
It was sad. I had predicted a whole other ending when I first started to watch it.

I liked this movie. Not in a OMG that was so goood kinda way but in a well that movie sure makes ya think kinda way! Any movie that I still think about days after seeing it is IMO a good movie. This movie sent a message to me that one just never knows... As for her build I saw it when it was at the theater and I had not heard any of the hype about her muscle then so I had no thoughts on that. I was to into the plot that I didn't think about her body. I do agree it's not a "feel good movie". Wasn't meant to be but I liked it, sadness and all.

Don't get me wrong...I loved the movie, too! Just not going to be a "cult classic" in our house LOL!! Kind of like the movie "Seven" with Brad Pitt, Morgan Freedman, Gweneth Paltrow and Kevin Spacey. Awesome movie but you can't watch it over and over again.

I didn't cry. In fact, about the time her family came to visit, I said to my husband, "isn't it time for this movie to end yet?"

Oh well, that's why Netflix is so awesome. You don't feel bad when you rent something you don't love.

That was what we thought, too! I was expecting her to be a lot bigger than she was; regarding the content of the movie, sheesh. . . depressing doesn't quite describe it. We bought it based on the reviews thinking it would be great, watched it, and gave it away the next day.

"I didn't cry. In fact, about the time her family came to visit, I said to my husband, "isn't it time for this movie to end yet?""

I think you and I felt the same way. I kinda had an inkling about what would happen so it wasn't a surprise ending for me. I just really never understand why movies and actors/actresses get Oscars. It was ok, thought provoking, etc., but not outstandingly so.

Gotta love that Clint Eastwood though. That man has charisma!

I saw this movie a while ago and wasn't too impressed either. I too thought Hillary would look a heck of a lot bigger than she did and the movie was so-so. I would have been pist if I paid the $ to see it in the theater. DH really liked it though so who knows...

ETA: I didn't shed a tear either. It was sad but it just didn't move me for some reason.

I agree, I liked the movie - even bought it - but I had no idea she became paralyzed in this movie. I thought it was all about her winning and winning some more. I didn't think she looked all that buff either. Loved Linda Hamilton in T2!!!

This is my favorite movie of all-time, barring none.

I don't think the film makers wanted Hilary to look cut and lean, like LH in T2, as most boxers are thicker than that. I thought she truly evoked the image of a female fighter. I just love this movie so much. I'm getting teary just thinking about it.

It features wonderful work by Swank and Freeman, top-of-his-game directing by Eastwood - not to mention his best acting job in years, and a marvelous score. I simply adore this film.

I actually enjoyed the movie. It was very sad, esp. at the end. The movie was a little predictable, but I enjoyed it anyway.

As for Hillary being "buff" I didn't see where. The way the media talked about her w/o and intake of protein, I thought she would have been "ripped". That's Hollywood for you.

I second Jillybean. It's not a movie you watch over & over again but it's the type that truly sticks with you for a long time.

I with Jillybean, too. The acting was so phenomenal that it was impossible for me to not like the film. It also helps that I LOVE all 3 of them! I didn't see it as predictable. I thought she was going to be on a winning rampage and be more like "Rocky". I was actually thrilled that I did not see the injury coming.
