Metabolism and Gaining Weight

Lollie---there is a site called POwerSurge.com that has a message board andmany cool women there. I get alot of good info, or at least ideas, on that site---it's for menopausal women. (powersurge meaning being a more positive word for hotflash).

I have started the Revival soy that is recommended, and I had tried LOTS of soy products before--including lots of 'real' soy in my diet. Nothing helped. This formulation (comes in bars and shakes) really helped my night sweats and anxiety, and severe PMS during this perimenopausal time. I was truly amazed.

Now, before someone comes on here and lambastes me about the soy---yes, you should get your thyroid checked first, and yes, your mileage may vary---it isn't as affective for everyone, and some people are sensitive to soy.

If Revival Soy worked for you, than that's great! I would recommend anyone thinking about trying it to not immediately assume it's going to work for you and buy a lot of it. I invested a lot of money in Revival Soy and it did not work for me....not in the least. Threw much of it away.

I do enjoy the Powersurge website, though. Lots of great information.

Hi Lollie!

Thought I'd have to jump in here. Maybe I'm in the same boat with you....I'm 44 and have gained a nasty 5-10 lbs that just won't budge! I was 5 ft 6 in and about 120 lbs for years, and now I can't seem to believe I weigh 135! If I lose a few pounds through near starvation, then I seem to be ravenously hungry, as if my 'set point' has changed. Maybe that's bogus, but seems to be the case. As for weight lifting, I'm in the midst of a p90x rotation (with lots of Cathe's added for fun:) and I feel like I'm getting even heftier. Shirts tighter across the shoulders and that sort of thing. My appetite seems bigger as well - I started trying to follow the diet, but would have been nonfunctional of that degree of starvation. Maybe we should just enjoy - read a great story about Julia Child and how she scorned America's love/hate relationship with food, and I could see the wisdom in this. However, I hate the feeling of the 'spare tire' around the middle and some cellulite on the thighs....
However, to end this rambling - I am the one from vf who recently got the Revmaster for a steal - if I did that thing 3-4 times a week, I'm sure I'd be losing weight, but the pain factor just keeps me down to once a week or so, (as well as the p90x). If I can ever make the committment to really up the spinning I'll keep you posted as to the results.:D Moreover, after adopting two small kids a year ago, my goals have changed somewhat, and now just staying fit and healthy, rather than rail-thin seem to be more important - but boy I do miss those days!

Take care Lollie!

p.s. About the progesterone cream - I checked some medical journals, and there have been some studies looking at these creams in Britain - very erratic as the amount of progesterone that is actually in there, as opposed to what is claimed on the packaging, and one study where blood levels were taken prior to starting the cream and afterwards - no detectable changes in blood levels of progesterone. No FDA regulation of any of these things.....
