Member status?

I posted this question before but never got an answer. Maybe someone can educate me.

How come I'm a "charter member" (under my user id) and others are "members"?

I remember reading a post where someone said that if you are a charter member, you were a member of the forum before the format was changed, and "member since ..." people signed on after the format change. I may be wrong.

Charter members are 'older' members... not due to age, but the time he/she became a member of Cathe forum. I think I've been here since 2002.
