Medela or Ameda Breast pump?

I am looking at getting a breast pump and have been doing reasearch on it and now I am wondering if anyone can give me their .o2 on the Medela Pump and Style or the Ameda Purley Yours. The one thing I like about the Ameda is that you can resale it or lend it out when your done without someone having to by $45 worth of tubing, but I am wondering if it is as good of a pump? Help I am confused!

I have heard nothing but rave reviews about the Medela Pump, altho all I have personally is their mini. I am not sure how the Ameda on would be able to be resold without someone actually buying the tubing anyway b/c whatever comes into contact with your milk would need to be replaced by the new owner, for sanitary reasons, I would think. But perhaps I don't understand the machine design. Don't know anything about Ameda.

Hope this helps!

I have the Medela mini-electric and used the full-scale "hospital" version for the first couple of months after I had my daughter. I thought it was great -- very easy to set up and use. I don't know anything about Ameda.

The Medela tubing is a sterility issue. Every mother needs to get her own. I think it is impossible to ever get the tubes really sterile once they've been used, so that's why you're not supposed to share tubes.

RE: Ameda Breast pump?

I have the Ameda and I love it. It's just as good if not better in my opinion due to its versatility. You can resale the Ameda pump as the milk does NOT flow throught the tubing it's pumped directly into the container, from the breast sheild. You do have to buy your own shields but they are only like $10 a piece. Although, I would recommend buying your own brand new pump. As Hollister has a one year warranty on all pumps. So, should the motor burn out or what have you, they will send you a new one ASAP so long it's within the one year timeframe. I had to have mine replaced twice once because the pump didn't work when using the batteries (not good when trying to pump milk while 30,000ft in the air and your breast are damn near bursting). The second time the motor burnt out.

Here's the link for more information on the Purely Yours. Oh and did I mention that the Ameda pump retails for about $100 less than the Medala depending on where you buy it.

RE: Ameda Breast pump?

With my 2nd child I really wanted to continue nursing after I returned to work. I spent a lot of time reading consumer ratings and comments about pumps at sites like BabyCenter. I teach in a high school so I needed something fast and effective. I bought the Medela pump and loved it! I was able to pump three times/day, it was very natural feeling so let down occurred within seconds and I was able to pump about 4-5 ozs each side in about 10 minutes total time, each time I pumped. I felt it was WELL worth the $ to go with the Medela. There's my .02:)
