Good morning ladies...

I had a great time at my last class for CCD. The kids were so sweet. One of my students brought me a huge container of chocolate covered nuts. I hope I don't pig out on those. They are so good!!!

Today it is raining again like yesterday...So, not much going on. No drawing lessons today for Lauren this week. So, I am going to get caught up on some housecleaning. I have laundry, ironing, dusting, bathrooms to clean and vacuuming to do. Some of that will get done today..

Workout today is suppose to be a 50 minute cycling class or ride. Rain will not let that happen. So, I think I will do an Amy Bento hi/lo DVD..I like her hi/lo stuff...

Ok, time to get the kids up for the day..That is always an experience!!

Hey Kathy!... It's always kind of bittersweet to end school, isn't it? I get so sentimental, because *I* grow attached to the teachers. I know, I'm weird. ..Eat a few nuts a day, and ration them out for a few weeks! ... Have fun with Amy today!! though a cycle ride sounds so nice. I need to pester Greg to get my bike out from the basement.

Joanne: Looks like you didn't have enough cake, huh? You had to get the cupcake last night :p . OMG, your heart must have been POUNDING out of your chest when you saw those fire trucks!. Fire is one of my hugest fears.

Today is a busy day for me. I have Jake's Reading Group this morning, and then home for my workout. And then I have to go pick up my mom and take her to the doctors, which is in my town , and then back home again. (She had catarac surgery yesterday). I have to do a quick and earlier supper because there's a meeting for Zach's Washington DC trip from 6p-7p. .. I just dread the busy-ness AND the way the day is going to fly by.

My workout today is going to be Muscle Endurance, Upper body only and then BBL: High and Tight. I think I want to try to get in a P57 workout this week too.

Ivy (on FB), has me wanting new workouts now! She showed me the online trailors and workouts for Bob Harpers new ones , to be released in June.

OH MY!

So tempted!!! but I AM DEFINITELY getting Turbo Fire, so I need to stop!. it did say they're going to sell them at Target, so I bet they'll have a decent price there too. But... I WANT! LOL!

Good morning! Kathy, sounds like a nice last day of CCD -- don't pig out on the chocolate nuts! ;)

Chris, I'm glad you mentioned the cupcakes because I wouldn't have gone to look and there was a lot there! Holy crap that fire truck scene must have been scary for you! And Joanne! :) So glad all was well. Funny about your patient in pink -- I do remember you telling us about him. Nice that you were able to get to know him better this week.

I don't think Cindy ever did a step video, but maybe I missed it.

Hottie, crazy about you noticing the P57 signs. You have to go try it! I'm sure it's way more intense in person, but I do know their classes are pretty pricey. Maybe they'll have an introductory deal.

I had a great workout this morning -- a combo of zuzana bodyweight stuff and kettlebell. It was tough! Took almost an hour and I know I'm gonna feel it later!

I think my mom will be out of the hospital in the next day or so -- apparently the dr. is worried that she's getting "too comfortable". She'll go to some sort of rehab place for a little while. My sister and I are trying to figure out coverage going forward.

BBL, maybe!

Oh, Joanne..... Michigan..... I grew up outside of Detroit, in Farmington, if you know where that is. Only until I was 10. We moved to Ohio after that, and then Tennessee, and then finally southern CA. I get around, eh? ;)

Yea, cupcakes!! :)

Kathy, I didn't realize you taught CCD! That's great. Mmm, chocolate covered nuts. We just finished off a box of Fannie Mae meltaways. One of my favorites. DH had bought some for his mother and it was buy one, get one free, so I got one. I put them in the freezer to deter myself. Worked for a couple days. It's hard to eat more than one or two when they are frozen. But I took them out and the family helped to polish them off. I like Amy's hi/lo, too.

Chris, I saw those workouts mentioned on VF, I think. I didn't look at the trailers, though. Afraid if I do, I'll buy them. Like I need more workouts!! I think it said all four would be sold at Target for $35, that's not too bad.

Hottie, that would be so cool to workout in the P57 studio!

Beth, glad to hear your mom will be out of the hospital. Does your sister live near her?

My workout was the other adv. strength training workout from Discount Workouts. This one was good, but not as tough as the one I did last week. The instructor took a long time between exercises, so it seemed like there were less reps. Still a good workout, though.

Long meeting coming up...ugh!

BBL...

Joanne

Hey Girls!

I did Jake's reading group (the kids were cute, but LOUD..but we had fun, we played a word building game) . Came home, paid a CC bill (had issues with paying it on line and spent way too much time on it), cleaned cat puke off the floor and carpet (thanks so much, Kiwi) and then did my workout! I did do the Upper Body Premix from ME w/ abs. Abs were tough for me today. Not sure why. And then I did BBL: High and Tight. Holy COW, the leg lifts on the floor (on forearms and knees) KILL my BUTT! (I mean, "bum bum"). OUCH OUCH OUCH! I have a hard time talking myself into doing the last move (the "Rainbow"). Good times, girls, good times! All for my beach ready bum bum!

Beth:
My patients are the best. I love them, even when they are swearing at me and hitting me! .. Zuzana, huh? WTH is THAT? (or maybe I don't want to know!). ... It does sound like your mom is ready to get sprung from the hospital! The chemo is all done then? Does she have it once a week? Once ever few weeks?

Joanne: Thanks for the heads up on the Target price for the Bob workouts. On his site they're $36, plus S&H, so I will def wait until they're in the stores. ... Nice workout today! Funny how different workouts that are supposed to be similiar, arent' so much!?! Were they both "advanced"? ...Hope the meeting has nice breaks (and snacks!?!?).

*Waves* to Hottie!!

Gotta leave in a few to play mom taxi :). I feel so bad for my mom. My brother (who's 50-something) still dumps on her. Still asks for money. Still has a screwed up life. And he calls my mom and totally dumps on her, and it stresses her out. She's 8 freakin 6 years old. Sad he doesn't get it. Do we all have "one of those" siblings? Geesh!

okay, better go...

hey ladies! I woke up earlier than I wanted to, futzed, but managed to do Athletic Step and some parts of the P57 Arm and Ab Booster before I ran off to therapy. It was nice to get the workout done earlier...I hope to do the same tomorrow. I would like to do some resistance work at one point today. But it was really hard for me to do cardio so much earlier...but maybe I should always try to do a small cardio workout every morning.

Oh Joe corrected me last night. The p57 studio was on Canon not Santa Monica Blvd which makes sense if I think about the location again. Canon is pretty froo froo.

Kathy -- it's raining here too...made traffic all sucky coming in. Enjoy Amy!

Chris -- hope you get through the day and not let it fly by too much! Personally, I want it to be the end of the day already. I really want to go by the produce market so I can cook dinner but between Joe's meeting today and our tutoring tonight, I fear we may have to order out again. I am thinking of getting a Togo's tuna sandwich today so that may cover me for most of the day. I'm sorry about your brother! My sister is in such a bad place right now that I think my mom gets caught in the crossfire but honestly, they are always complaining that we don't take enough for them (more when Joe and I were starting out and we just scraped on my stipend instead of asking for help). I always tell them -- go complain about that to other people and see what sympathy you'll get!

Beth -- I'm glad your mother is out of the hospital. Are you guys going to consider any of the LA hospitals? If you need me to make phone calls or drop by (at least the USC or Pasadena ones), let me know. Is the rehab for post-chemo treatment? I don't think I could go to more than one P57 class...Beverly hills is just too out of the way! At least with Santa Monica which is technically further from my home, it's RIGHT off the freeway. With Beverly Hills it takes 20+ mins from any freeway exit most of the time.

Joanne -- I saw your cupcake post and then...I ate one in real life. Eventually they'll get finished! From last night, Urbana-Champagne (am I spelling it right? Joe says the natives also flip the order) is a funny school because Arnold Beckman pushes a ton of money there because that's where he went. (Arnold Beckman invented the pH meter after leaving Caltech and made a ton of money and now makes even more money being a crotchity old mean man who is still head of Beckman Instruments...how do I know he's crotchity? Because I had to meet him because I won one of his reserach fellowships as an undergrad. Super crochity.) So basically, all these schools that Beckman likes gets tooons of money (like Urbana-Champagne and Caltech) for biological/chemical research. Hey is Jameson in biochem? Or is he more of a programmer dude?

Jeesh, I don't know if its the weather but I'm down. I'm going to fix the sadness with food.

Those workouts look good! (like *I* need anymore!). Are there four? It looked like cardio, strength, yoga.

Mom stuff -- I have one sister who is local to her but not necessarily as organized at being helpful. The other one is in Sacramento, which for all intents and purposes is about the same distance as I am. My mom's not out of the hospital yet, but probably will be sometime this week. The rehab place is because she lost so much strength and cannot really move on her own yet. It's so strange to think that a month ago she was going to a trainer and now she cannot get to the bathroom by herself!! The chemo will be given once every three weeks for six months, as I understand it. Oh, and no.... no L.A. hospitals -- it's important to her to be close to home for treatments and everything, so she picked a local dr.

Beth, oh yea, I think you did tell me you grew up near Detroit. The area we go to every summer is near Muskegon, so not really close. Wow, you did get around when you were young! Did your dad travel a lot for his job?

Confession...I tried to buy the Bob Harper workouts, but kept getting an error message. Must be a sign.

Chris, what a shame about your brother and the way he takes advantage of your poor mom. I'm an only child, so there's not one in my family - unless it's me! ;) But, I do know what you mean. The workout was still advanced, I think, but not as tough as the other. I probably could have used heavier weights in some parts. No, no breaks and no snacks at the meeting! We're a nonprofit - no extras!! Unless you bring your own. But it wasn't so bad. Great workout!! I need to get back to BBL. Once the kids are out of school I'll have more time in the mornings to do longer workouts.

Hottie, you crack me up!! Thanks for eating a cupcake for me! Yea, it's Champaign-Urbana. Never heard of Arnold Beckman! But me and crotchity old men don't get along, so I'm better off! You know, I don't think Jameson's really focused on what he wants to do. Or prefers one subject over the other. Which is fine - he has plenty of time. In middle school, they all pretty much take the same classes. They all take generic science, no chemistry or biology yet. In high school, he'll have more choices and will probably find his niche. I think he'd lean more towards the science end than programming, though. Eww, I can still remember the smell of the frogs we dissected in high school freshman biology. Don't know why I just remembered that!

I have a follow-up appt. with my eye doctor after work. Wish me luck! My vision has gotten a lot better and it's not bothering me anymore. But, last time he told me the cells were growing back and he was going to do something more drastic. I'm not doing anything without another opinion, but I'm curious to see what he says tonight. Right now it's not bothering me, so I say leave it alone!!

I realized I won't be home till after 7:00 and I didn't bring any snacks. How pathetic is it that I am thinking about food and worrying about being hungry in five hours?? I should run out and try to find something healthy I can eat on the way so I don't gorge when I get home!

Joanne

Beth, I think we owe each other beers!! ;) There is four workouts - one is called "the workout" or something very generic. I looked at the description and it looked good, but I can't remember what it was. How long is your niece going to be able to stay with your mom? Hopefully your sister who is closer can help out. Still keeping your mom (and you) in my prayers.

Beth -- I completely can't imagine what it's like for your mom, but I do think of her. We (as in my lab) found out yesterday we won a 13 million dollar cancer grant (its split between three labs but we get the bulk of it). I'm not on the cancer projects, but I do hope we get further in our findings. If we're right, we have a CHEAP, effective way to better deal with chemotreatments (and thus cancer).

Joanne -- You know, I realized five mins after the post that Beckman died a couple years ago so now I'm going to have to do something for being mean to the dead (despite the fact he was super crotchity). But it was funny -- once I met this big deal chemistry professor who also was a woman in India who apparently worked side by side against beckman. Anyway, in India (or very much so in my family), being big in academia lends you to worship - you never say ANYTHING against people who are academically accomplished. So, I'm talking with this prof with my uncle (who also is a big prof, though not as big), and she makes a comment about Beckman and I guess I looked funny. She asked me what and I said, well, after meeting him, I would have found it hard to believe he was...pleasant to work with despite his abilities. My uncle stood there mortified. The prof? She started laughing and said, "oh he was an ASS!"

So, we is referred outside of the area as Urbana-Champaign? Did the town sort or evolve or something?

It's funny too I just went on a rant about how poorly biology is taught in schools. When I was in high school, I would have never dreamed about being a biologist. I hated dissections, it was all memorization, it hardly seemed something for smart people. And then I went to a super rigorous molecular biology department and learned how cool this stuff was. Despite the fact the field has made ginormous changes in the last twenty years, they dedicate 2 weeks in textbooks to advances and all the rest of the time on ecology and physiology or stuff that most biologists don't even bother with now. And I thought it was because the MCATs had it because the AP Bio exams set up pre-meds but all the pre-meds say its utterly useless. Ugh! I wish I could just design bio/chem curricula for students...

So THAT said -- I hope Jameson doesn't get turned off like I did!

And i don't think its weird to think about food...I think about food all the food I mean time. ;) I hope the eye doctor has good news this time!

Ok, can you guys tell I don't want to start the next experiment? Well, I don't. I have to be in the stupid cold room and it's cold there and i forgot to bring my winter coat. Grrr....

Thanks, Joanne!

Chris, zuzana == bodyrock.tv == awesome bodyweight workouts. And yes, every family has one and if you don't know who it is in your family, it's you! ;)

Oh Beth -- I had to post this (and I just had a real life cupcake).

So, our Bev Hills stylist is doing Joe's hair and giving him the same straightening treatment I got a couple months ago after some convincing...she also was saying to do a conditioning treatment for me as well and I asked her the price and I asked if she could do everything for $250 which she said sure. Joe's eyes bugged out and said, yeah, well, its not like we're doing this everyday. And then we said -- at least its less than what Beth pays for her hair (when you split between the two of us)! You're now our panty standard which is to say I have another friend who spend $24 on panties because they were comfortable so our line used to be, well, at least I'm not spending $24 on panties! Ok, that's enough...NOM NOM NOM...

I'll take that cupcake, thank you very much! ;) I recently discovered that the cheapo teeny tiny crazy little hanes underwear is more comfortable than anything I own. However, I own nothing that cost $24 for one pair!!
