Maxing out the Troy Lite Barbell

Hi Cathe-

I know you use a Troy Lite Barbell in many of your strength training workouts and was wondering if you've loaded it higher than the recommended poundage. If I remember correctly, when I purchased mine, 80 pounds was the max. I will be exceeding that amount now with STS and wondered if the bar could safely be loaded higher or if I need to get a new bar. Thanks!

I'm on week 3 of Meso 2 and feeling stronger already;)

IIRC SNM posted way, way back during the STS wts presale that the suggested barbell limits were set by lawyers not materials engineers. :p Chris said they had definitely exceeded that 80 lb limit on the troy lites w/o any problem. (I'm going on memory here...)

I don't know where the thread is, but if you don't hear from SNM you might try a search in the STS wts forum re: barbell weights. HTH.

You know, I still say that Cathe's barbell looks like it is bending in some of the videos...you have to pay close attention! :D

Definitely in some of the BB deadlifts in STS it is bending a bit. But I think the above responses were correct that the limit is just a guideline.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I kind of assumed you could go above the limit but I also noticed the bending in a few shots and got to thinking about safety (especially with bench press).
