Math Question Again

Cathlete
I have not taken a math class in years.

I was watching "The Biggest Loser" and one of the contestants weighted in:
Beginning weight 330#
Present weight: 253#

His percentage of weight loss was 23.3%. How did they figure that out?

"Unless you let go of the old, God will not bring the new" (J.Osteen)

Present Weight divided by Beginning Weight- the contestant now weighs 76.6% of what they started at. So, then, they have lost 23.3%. TG for calculators!!! :p

Just in general, to find any rate (percentage) change, use the following formula:

(New Number - Old Number) / Old Number

Spoken as "New minus old over old".
