makeup & excercising

Ok, this may seem like a silly question, but I just started wearing makeup and I excercise when I get home from work. I am wondering what you other PM excercisers do about the makeup on your face. Do you take it off before working out? Sorry if this is dumb, but I am just discovering makeup at age 31.

Beth

Hi Beth,

I am a PM exerciser and I never take off my make up until after I have worked out, usually while my bath is running. There seems little point in cleansing and toning before exercise, because once you are all sweaty, you have released the salts, toxins, etc onto the skin, and it seems an expensive waste of cleanser, toner and moisturiser. If you find your mascara bothers you when sweat runs into your eyes, then maybe remove that pre-workout with an eye make up remover.

Hope this helps :)

I do remove my makeup before I work out. My eyes sting when the mascara-filled sweat drips into my eyes. OUCH!

At night before bed (I work out in the a.m.) I remove my makeup just by wiping my face with a clean damp wash cloth once over.

You might try that kind of quick wipe before you start. It minimizes manipulation of the skin, but still removes excess makeup that could mix with sweat. (Ew.)

Then do your more thorough cleansing in the shower.

I don't workout at night, but if I did I would definitely remove my makeup. Not only would it be painful to have sweaty make-up and mascara running into my eyes, but I'd be worry that I'd clog up all those pores. Don't your pores open up some as you sweat and heat up? I'd be worried that the make-up might clog them up more.

Besides, there's something so nice feeling about washing my face, tying up my hair and then heading down to the workout room!

OK, I admit I'm weird. I always put on my makeup (foundation, eye-liner, and mascara) BEFORE I work out in the morning! That way, after I finish working out, I can put on a bit of face powder, blush and lipstick, et voila, just run out the door for work. (Oh, ya, I do put clothes on, too!)

Been doing this for all the years I've worked out. Told ya I was weird!

Patricia

Hi Patricia,

Believe me you are not weird ! After all most Ladies I know that swim at a local Fitness centre, do so with waterproof mascara on and foundation in some instances (I have never tried this as i can't swim ! LOL), and some Ladies go to the gym with full make up on.

Make up these days tends to be non-comodegenic, so it is designed not to block up the pores. Also, cleansing the skin more than twice a day (am & pm) will strip the natural balance of the skin allowing sensitivity, and dehydration to arise.

Anna :)
