Hi Cathe. Hope you have amoment to breathe as you are running hither and yon to accomplish it all.

When you (or Chris, or whomever) get a chance I wonder if you could field this question. In meso2, week 3 we are double wave loading. I understand the pinciple but wonder why it is that we only do it on one exercise? We go heavy w/ decreasing reps, then dbl wave load on 1 exercise, then on to another at moderately heavy with decreasing reps. Why only one? TIA.

We do three double wave loads in Disc #19, one for each muscle group...i.e, chest, shoulders and triceps. You could certainly do a double wave load for every exercise, but I think you would find that to be a little bit of an overkill as a double wave load has 6 sets. Though there is no set rule, generally most trainers and Cathe, like to use 3 to 5 sets for each exercise in a routine like STS. Since we go beyond 5 sets in each double wave load we reduce the sets to three for most of the non double wave load exercises.

If you have the volume (sets x reps) too high in a routine fatigue and mental fatigue become a problem as does the duration of the workout.

Thanks Chris. I wasn't sure if there was a reason that each particular exercise was chosen to do as the double wave load, or whether it was strategically placed between the other non-double wave load sets. Is there a method to the choice? Thanks for ataking the time to answer.

It is more based on experience than it is on a strict scientific formula. STS is all about shocking your body and that means doing different exercises and techniques to keep your muscles constantly challenged. This is why you will see different techniques used in the same workout and in different weeks and mesocycles.
