Luteal Phase Defect?

Bethany,

I am currently ttc #2 also. I have been seeing a RE since April. I was pretty much in the same boat as you...no period since the birth of my 3 yr old. I also exercise a lot and was told to cut down on my exercising and gain a couple of lbs. My RE put me on estrogen for 3 weeks and then I took medicine to get a period. Once I got my period, we started with injectable meds to make my folicles grow. I went in 2-3 times for vag. ultrasounds to monitor their growth. Once large enough, I give myself a trigger shot in order to ovulate. I am doing this along with IUI.

I have just gone through my 2nd IUI (the first ended in an early miscarriage). My periods are now regular.

What I am trying to say is maybe your body just needs kick-start (like I had) to get your body working correctly.

HTH!

Hi Bethany!

One thing I want to say about the ClearBlue monitor, the monitor doesn't tell you you're ovulating or confirm ovulation. The only way to absolutely confirm ovulation is pregnancy or u/s. The monitor identifies signs you are fertile... but that doesn't mean ovulation... just like temp shift does not confirm ovulation, etc.. That said, it is great to id when you are fertile.

Short luteal phases post-pill aren't uncommon. I saw this a lot when I was teaching NFP. But, you could have more than post-pill effects.

My biggest thing is, they haven't found what's wrong with me so why would I take medication?

I suspect you have been diagnosed with an ovulation disorder. Ovulatory disorders are the cause of 30% of women's infertility and about 70% of these cases can be successfully treated by the use of drugs such as clomid. Since this thread is re: LPD, it is worth mentioning clomid is often effective in a woman with LPD. That said, not every woman is a candidate for Clomid, so treatment selection should be individualized and properly monitored.

Your accupuncturist sounds great - I am so impressed when the value of BBT charts is appreciated (I'll refrain from the gripe :))!! I am in favor of interventions to get the body functioning properly before relying on treating/managing symptoms.
