Lurker's Invitation November, 2009

Joey and I will be doing a Firm tape today for a full body workout.

Laura
, Great job on the hiking, I do remember you telling us about it last Spring. It was very impressive. I thought to myself how wicked that must have been.LOL

I hope you don't get sick, hang in there.

No, I'm not ripped. I must not be saying it correctly how I used the 40# dumbbell. The exercise was used in S&H. There is another DVD that I can't remember off hand, that also has the same exercise. I'll look for it today and post it later. You don't use your back at all. It's not as hard as you think. Don't get me wrong it's hard work, but if I can do it, so can other people. I'm intermediate to high intermediate and low Advanced.

OK, I Came Back:

I looked briefly and couldn't find it anywhere else at the moment. Check it out though, in Slow & Heavy. It's a very impressive exercise. Unfortunately the clip dosen't show this exercise. I hope you have S&H to view it. But the main thing is, you have to feel safe in doing your exercises.

Where to begin, where to begin? I guess with this morning's workout: 4DS Low Intensity Step, shoulders, calves, and core. More fun. Of course, it helped that I previewed the step routine twice.;) The shoulder work was wicked. That first round of pyramid up shoulder presses was hard. I had 8-10-12-15s set out, but did 8-1-12-12. No way I was lifting 15#DBs for those last 8 reps. My arms would have fallen off my shoulders for sure. The rest of the shoulder work was good and the band burner at the end did just that. I like the calve lifts--it's almost like taking a break, but not really.

My DH was looking for 1 and 2 pound dbs this morning for his wrist PT. His physical therapist worked him hard yesterday. I don't have 1 and 2 pound dbs so he is using an old set of wrist weights (1 lbs each) and my ankle weights which I think are 2 pounds each. I'm thinking about investing in heaver ankle weights, just for fun. Ha!

Janie: lovely necklaces. I hope they sell fast. Somehow I had a feeling Joey wasn't going to be grooving to my rotation. Doesn't matter as long as you guys are exercising. Isn't it nice to have your Joey home? As for using a heavier db on the plie squat--I'm with Laura on this one--I worry more about pulling a groin muscle. Regular squats, I have no problem with going with 40 pounds--plies are another issue for me.

Laura: fighting the germs again? Yuck. Maybe all that fresh air from your walk will help keep the sickness at bay. You made some interesting observations on weight lifting and flexibility. I'd never thought about that.

Okay--enough fun with the gals, back to work for me.

Hello all -

Last night - I did switch workouts and did 4DS: BC - but not very well. I just feel all out of whack when I do those drills. Sometimes I turn my back to the television because Cathe tells us to work at our own pace and I want to do that. One thing - I can't jump down and do the push ups - it is too hard on the back. I get on down there - do the push ups and then get up - one foot at a time. It makes me feel all old and infirmed. One interesting thing - she did a pyramid up on the triceps & biceps - Cathe went really heavy - I couldn't hang with her weight. So I used the plate mates to make increments in between!! This is a good stepping stone to heavier weights and I enjoyed feeling the variation in weight. I think 15s to 20s is too big a gap.

Janie - love the pearl necklaces - beautiful. Matching earrings too - just lovely - looks like a lot of hard work - how do you find the time? How many did you make? What Firm tape are you doing? A classic? Inquiring minds want to know. I admit I'm all jealous that Joey will work out with you - I'd love it if Rex did.

Laura - a 2:30 hour hike - that is quite a bit of hiking. I love that you get out there all the time for walks, hikes, skiing - in addition to all of your classes - plus your own personal workouts at home. You must be in really great shape. Frankly - I do my one hour long workout and I consider myself all done for the day. You are really on the go go go - a full time Mom and have a busy social calendar. I can't compete!! Do take care of yourself though - no fun to be sick - but you seem to be fighting whatever it is quite well.

Michelle - So how did LIS go? I'll be doing that this evening. I agree that watching these routines is a good way to be successful at them - especially step. I sometimes stop trying to do it with them and just watch - I rarely preview anything to be honest - if I get something new I just want to do it. Oh I wanted to comment on your decorating now. I am a pretty firm believer in not decorating for Christmas before Thanksgiving is over - but I agree with you - by the time I get all of my stuff up I really don't get to enjoy it. Takes me weeks and weeks - last year I started right after Thanksgiving and didn't completely finish until Christmas Eve!!!

That reminds me - I unfortunately was on Jen's site (Advanced workouts) and was just sort of browsing - and stumbled across her opened DVD deals - and well,:eek::eek::eek: sort of got sucked into buying Jari Love's Slim & Lean workout. I have always been super curious about Jari - she is a pretty big name out there and I have never done any of her workouts. It was pretty inexpensive - so I thought I throw away that much on lunch - why not buy it? Anybody have her stuff?

Okay - well - I'm gonna go - hope you all have a great day - you too, Shadowpup.

My husband was able to get the girls today in Boulder and take them to their violin lesson, which saved me a trip! A nice surprise and a couple of free hours so I heated up the yurt and did the Back & Biceps for the first time. It was good and fun to have a new workout. But I swear all the pull-ups! I still can't do one so I either use the bands or do them using my legs quite a bit to help.....I have my ski conditioning class tonight as well.

Janey: Unfortunately I don't have S&H although one day I think I will have to get them. You are so sweet and thoughtful to take the time to look for that!:D

Michelle: I agree with you on those shoulder presses in 4DS! OUCH!:p:p:p

Shoegal: OH a new DVD! I am so excited for you and can't wait to hear about it! I have heard a lot about Jari as well on these forums but have only previewed her stuff on line! Well I am definitely active, but I don't know how fit!

I definitely have the snuffles but not to bad, certainly not sick enough to call a sick day. Just a little runny nose, a slightly elevated heart rate, and fatigue more quickly but that is all! Hopefully it stays that way!

4DS Bootcamp this morning. I didn't preview this and felt a bit rushed all the way through. The drills were fun. I'm with you Shoegal on the squat thrusts with the push-up. I have to go a little slower so my back doesn't hurt. I found that by the end though I was almost keeping pace with Cathe. Maybe it's just a matter of slowly getting in the groove with those particular moves. My back sure wasn't liking it at the beginning. For the weight work, I think I had just about every piece of equipment pulled out. DBs, barbells, high step, low step, ball. At one point, I had to stop the dvd to pick stuff up a bit so I had room to work.

We are looking foward to a beautiful next few days here in the mid-atlantic--mid to high 60s this weekend. Sweet!

I'm patiently waiting for Cathe's new gear to be available for purchase. I'm hoarding my gift certificate that sister gave me for my birthday. Any day now.

Shoegal: I'm going to have to go check out the Advanced Workout website. Hmmm. What was your high weight on the pyramid biceps? I eeked out a set with the 15s--that was a first for me.

Laura: so I'm wondering if a yurt is a standard living addition/area in Colorado? I think you've posted pictures of it--kind of circular building, right? Looks interesting. Just wondering if you guys built it or if it was an existing structure when you bought your home? How are you feeling? Is the snow gone or still hanging around?

Janie: if my memory serves me correctly, you do several different types of crafty activities. But what I'm really wondering is how your book is going? You haven't mentioned it in a while. How was the workout with Joey?

Shadowpup: let me know your travel schedule for DC. You are coming east the week of the 16th, yes?

Hope everyone enjoys this beautiful Friday.

Hello Everyone!

Did LIS yesterday - love, love, love the step routines - hate hate hate the slides Cathe did for intensity. I toyed with the idea of fast forwarding that sliding part but like a good Catheite I did it all. Love all the weight work - for the pyramid up in shoulders - I pulled out the 15s - i was fooling myself. It is interesting knowing what Michelle picks up - so I thought there might be a possibility of using them but in the end I did 8-10-12-12 as well - and I found it really hard. Core work - sorry anything for the lower abs kills my back - had to modify that entire section. It is upsetting to me that I have to do that.

Michelle - I'm trying to remember what I picked up for the biceps - I remember that I made an in between weight -I believe I did 10-12-13.5 (I know it was a weird weight but that was the amount of plate mates I had around me at the time) and 15s. I could go as high as 15 too.

Laura - you know, all this time I was wondering what a Yurt was too. I'm going to go look at the pictures - and why do you have to turn on the heat in there? Is it detached from the home? Sounds like my workout room - it was a part of the original Boy Scout dining hall - and we made 2 new rooms out of what is left of that hall. We had to add heat because the dining hall was a "summer" building and didn't have installation or vents or anything. When DH originally did the house these 2 new rooms weren't a part of all that.

Janie - Still want to know which workout you did with Joey - what did you do today? I actually was also wondering about the book. As Christmas is coming there is a lot of talk in Rex's family about the gift exchange - I was entertaining the idea of making something. They all do that - if making soap isn't too hard I might try it.

Have a little dinner this evening - I want to go home afterwards and do SM: 1& 2. I also have a horribly work filled Saturday ahead - we need to winterize in the worst way and it all has to be done then. The cannas need to come out, the furniture has to go in - the boat has to be finished up. I'm not looking forward to it but at least the weather will be good.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Good Evening Everyone,

I was interrupted by Joey two times now while I was posting. Both times had a lot to say in length. But, as men sometimes do, their stuff is really important. so, I let him get his way. (frustrated)

I don't want to write it all again, so just know I've read your posts.

Thank you for saying my jewelry is good, I appreciate that.

We did the firm Vol. 1 with Susan Harris.

Today I did Core Rhythms for my cardio.

My Book: Joey and everyone else thinks it won't do well. It is controversial to all the big name soap manufacturers and most likely won't be picked up by any publisher. It is medicinal soap and all the recipes to help with many many kinds of ailments and that the ingredients used are proven to help. I've already spent a couple years at it, and now I'm really discouraged to continue on with it. My motivation is zilch.

I'm really having a bad day today. My GERD is giving me havoc for a long time now and I'm just wondering if it might be an ulcer instead. I have an appt. with the doctor on Monday. I kinda hope it is, because I know with special meds. (penicillin), it will get rid of an ulcer once and for all. It's going to be a long weekend.

Sorry everyone, I'm just not feeling well.:(

Do take care of yourselves. I Know it's flu and cold season so be careful out there. If you get sick, drink lots of liguids and rest.

Have a great weekend.

Janie

It's Saturday! YEA! And we are actually celebrating the girls birthday in Boulder today, I know, I know, it is super past their birthdays, which is Sept. 24th! But there were a ton of birthdays in their class late Sept/Oct. The one weekend in Oct that would have worked the place was booked and then it was Halloween...so here we are! We are having a tea party at a cute little restaurant with 6 of their friends from their class. The girls are supposed to bring their favorite dolls. I hope they remember.

Yesterday I went for a jog in Boulder, first one in a long time, I am only now getting back into my Boulder routine. And then I did the P90X Yoga late in the evening. I had to really talk myself into it and then continue to talk myself through the whole darn thing. My body was really protesting, my legs were sore from my ski conditioning class, my shoulders were acting up, complain complain complain!!!:( The one complaint I do have about P90X is that is really, really hard on the shoulders. Almost every single workout has tons and tons of push-ups, chin/pull-ups, and plank weight which I find to wear the shoulders out and aggravate them. There are so many other options to work those muscles with weights that don't put so much strain on the shoulders that I am starting to get annoyed. It is also a lot of strain on the wrists as well. Anyway I am thinking I will take the day off today. Yesterday I did feel worse as far as the cold, today I am feeling better, but my body seems to be telling me it needs rest....or maybe a good stretch.
P90X Legs & Back is on the schedule but I actually did 85% of that routine on Thursday in my Ski Conditioning class so my rational is that I already did it, or enough of it to count anyways....

Michelle: the yurt we bought as a kit, it has a lattice frame, with a canvas covering. It is circular, and is modeled after the Mongolian yurts that the nomadic people live in. It has a very high tech space age bubble insulation with Mylar, but it needs to be heated with a wood stove to keep it warm enough to workout in. My husband and I actually lived in the yurt while we put an addition on our house, which is a 1898 Miners Victorian. It is my pilates studio and workout space now. I love Bootcamp! It is a great workout in 30 minutes you really get a bang for you buck! Good Job on those Biceps, you are really making strides in you strength

Shoegal: LIS is my absolute most favorite Step routine, because it was the first step routine that I got and it took me awhile to master, but once I got it it was so fun! It was the one that I was like "ok I can do this" so I can probably do other step routines! It was the very first Step routine I ever bought on DVD and so it took me awhile to figure out how to translate the mirror image on the screen into my dimensional space. It was very different to me than being in a class and seeing the teacher do it and be able to copy her. AND I hadn' done a step class since the early 90's.... Good luck with all your chores today!

Janey: I am so sorry you had a bad day yesterday, hopefully today is better for you. It probably doesn't help that you don't feel well. I have a good friend who was diagnosed with an ulcer. She was in such extreme pain that she could hardly get herself off of the bathroom floor where she was curled up in a fetal position and she is a mommy of two little boys so that says a lot! So take care of yourself and don't let it get to the point it did with my friend before you get it checked out! Sending you healing love...

Hi all, arrived back at midnight yesterday ... more on that later ...

Just wanted to suggest something, Janie. When you talk about your book, do you think you most want to see all that material gathered in a traditional book form, or do you want a 'regular publisher' to put it on Amazon, is it to get a paid advance, or do you want to share the information with a very broad audience? All of those are great goals - yet, if the publishing end of things turns out to be a truly terrible experience, you might consider self-publishing on the web. You could put up a neat medicinal soap website, and share those two years of hard work with everyone! You could even start a blog or a discussion forum. And, this would be a way to start small, perhaps taking just part of the information and putting it in one place. As time permits, you can add more. And then you may find that you have enough 'readers' to put out a traditional book. Well, just a thought, don't know if any of that appeals to you ...

More later, DH just came back and we have some outdoor tasks to do, just wanted to send good thoughts and big hellos to you all :)

Laura, Awe, how cute! Have a great tea party. Did everyone bring their dolls at the party? I think you are wise to take the day off. Your body is screaming at you to pay attention. Good for you for taking a break. Glad to see you are on the mend from your cold.

Today is a little better with GERD. Thank you, you are sweet for asking. I just had a pity party, you know, not enough sleep and hurting makes me pity myself. Enough of that, had a good cry and back to as normal as I can be. OMG! How is your friend doing lately? Is she OK now? Makes me count my blessings. Keep thinking of her in a fetal position. I also think about other people who have it far worse than me, and that makes me come out of the pity mood fairly quickly. Thank you for the healing wishes. I need them.

Deborah, I did indeed envision a traditional book form. No, not to get paid in advance, and it would have been nice to see it on Amazon. My ideal is to share this information to who/whom ever it might help. I guess that is a very broad audience. Joey suggested a blog or website too. I love the idea, but don't even know how to begin a blog or start up a website. Guess I better find out. I did put in a lot of time and it is worth sharing, maybe a donation? Just to pay for the website/blog. I don't know. Any ideas where to start? I'll start looking on the internet, I guess that's a good place to start, to get familiar with things. Thank you for the suggestions, You and Joey have my best interest at heart. I'll check it out, just don't know how/where to get the idea across to people. Most likely will find that out too.

Thanks again,

Janie

Janie, I'd just like to see you achieve your dream, whatever it is :) A long-ago friend of mine wrote a book, and it's published now - it took her many years even after the writing to get that set up, and it has been a lot of work. But, she wanted to make her living by writing which is why I thought of the advance, and I loved seeing her work on Amazon! It changed so much from the drafts I read ... (Woman's Sigh, Wolf's Song is the book). Another friend of mine wrote a textbook, and did very well with it. I've thought of that too, but haven't wanted to stop doing other things long enough. I empathize with wanting to have your hard work in traditional print. Sometimes people get just as much fun out of sharing their information online, though, because it can be so interactive. This forum, for instance, with Cathe. I wondered if maybe that would be a way to get started. Venuto, with his e-book on Burn Fat Build Muscle has had quite an influence, and that's now turned into a traditional book. So many options nowadays. I did a quick google and saw that WordPress has free blogs. Hmmm...

Anyway, glad to hear you are feeling better today! It is no fun to be hurting so much. Nothing wrong with burning off steam with us here :) ((hugs)) Let us know how the doc visit goes tomorrow.

Michelle, I've bought quite a few used dvds from that Advanced Workouts site! It's a dangerous place :) She really does have more of the advanced dvds, and I like her personal comments about the level of intensity. Some people don't like Jen at Advanced, but most seem to, and personally I've always found her easy to deal with, and if she's not too rushed she'll discuss personal recommendations. She's letting me return those dvds I opened and didn't care for, even though it was outside the usual period, which is very gracious of her. BTW, 4DS is getting you in the mode for STS, with all that equipment! Do you have slides/glides? The paper plates are okay on carpet, if you don't.

Laura, having a delayed party so it could be 'real' sounds like a great idea! and a tea party, too! That reminds me of Alice in Wonderland :) The yurt sounds wonderful, and very high tech. I was wondering how you kept it warm during winters. On P90x, that's one reason I'm not trying a whole rotation there. Shoulders and wrists need more TLC than Tony gives them, that's for sure. Do you use those perfect pushup handles? They are supposed to help.

Shoegal, you are always trying creative things! Making something for the gift exchange, and all that decorating ... my holiday prep is usually limited. But the snow outside looks festive, and there are traditional christmas tree outside, and my Christmas cactus are usually blooming; it is festive in a smaller way. But I hope you'll take pics of what you do with the house, so I can live vicariously!

I'm still wading through all the posts from the past week. We rearranged my trip schedule, and my DC trip moved. I'm now going to be in Oregon that week instead, and this past week was east coast, then Illinois. Not close enough to see you, Michelle, which is disappointing :( Wow, am I tired. It was a murphy's law trip for sure. One good thing, I'm really getting much better with the TRX in terms of getting the most out of it. Finally the lower body workouts are making sense! I did a lower body single legged squat-thing, where the TRX helps you balance. It is easier than a true one legged squat (where you have one leg stretched straight out in front of you and all your weight is on the other). When I'd been doing it before, I was using my upper body to hold some of my body weight on the straps, but this time I just used them to keep from falling over, and went for a very deep squat with leg straight out instead of bent. Three sets of those felt pretty intense!

Workouts were pretty good. I was able to get a full Cardio Coach in, then a half-Cardio Coach and half upper body/back/chest dumbbell workout in one hotel where they had some weights; and did a TRX upper one day, and finally a TRX lower plus abs day. That gave me four workout days out of five for the trip, and the fifth one involved considerable walking with all of my bags at a fast clip. Not bad, given that I also spent - oh, must have been eight hours of driving to/from hotels, and then three sets of planes. Almost skipped one of the TRX days but then I realized I would have to report that when I came back :) The mostly bodyweight approach is helpful, since although the flu seems gone I don't have as much stamina as usual. Yet.

Oh, Janie, I think we were on at the same time! I like that rotation. Hmmm ... I'm travelling so much that I can do a little like this, and on travel weeks it can be CardioCoach and TRX. Might decide to substitute in a little Mindy and Kelly if the Insanity gets too high!

Hello out there -

It felt fabulous to clean up and winterize the house - all my wind chimes came in - my hummingbird feeders (a little late there I admit) all the canna & calla bulbs came out - put all the flowerpots away - the porch furniture moved and stored and we put the boat away!! DH was seriously pleased that the boat fit in the pole barn - an inch higher and it wouldn't have. He mentioned it 3 times afterwards!! With all of this work outdoors- well, all my regular indoor chores sort of suffered and I'm miffed about that. I suppose I'll have to do that in the evenings. I did pack up all of the Halloween items that were gathered and were just waiting to be put away. All in all I was surprised it wasn't more taxing - I suppose I was just anticipating the worst.

I did SM 1&2 - which I really liked - but . . . I didn't like doing them cold. To get the most out of them I think doing a little bit of a warm up would be immensely beneficial and I didn't hear it but it didn't appear that Cathe said anything about it - I just started the workouts and didn't watch the intro so maybe she did. So I did SM #1 - stopped - and decided to do a little Kari Anderson video to get all warm - this was a very short hi/lo routine from a super old IDEA instructor training video. I just have to say how much I adore Kari - and the workout was just as fun as I remembered. She has flair - and a great dancing type of style - It was in fact, a little better than I remembered. Anybody hear of it? I think of Kari as Cathe's predecessor - she's a world class instructor. Ok done now with my rave - just had to get all that enthusiasm out. Well - I think I'm going to revisit more of her workouts and fall in love all over again - after this rotation ends, that is. I then finished off with SM#2 - on the ball and enjoyed that as well.

Shadowpup - glad you're home safe and sound. Yeah - I like Jen from Advanced Workouts too - I have asked her questions in the past and she has been more than delighted to answer them. I think she has a fun way on her blog of putting things and I enjoy reading what she has to say about the workouts she sells. VF also mentions Mary from Total Fitness DVDs - they all love her over there. She has good prices and good customer service too. Oh geeze - my sister tells me how insane I am with wanting workout videos - I suppose I am but that is why I like this check in - I can get all that out and it won't fall on deaf ears.

Michelle - tell me how you liked your workout today. I took a peek over at my calendar to see what I'd be doing. I've done all of those workouts before - but I have to admit that I've only done them once so I'm really looking forward to it this week.

Janie - Oh - glad you are feeling better - and in better spirits. I was actually going to look on the internet for some tips on making soap - it just might as well be your site!! I am always amazed at how effortlessly you deal with technology and are so open to new things. It is a good lesson for me - I'm so totally resistant to change and against anything new or - well, I seem to be. I resisted getting a cell phone for the longest time!! Do you have a good idea for a craft that I can make for Christmas gifts?? I discussed this with DH and he thinks I ought to bake. Love the Firm's vol 1 by the way and Susan Harris and your rotation sounds HARD!!! I won't be doing that since I don't have Insanity but one day I hope - tell us all about it. You can always complain here, by the way - we are all here to listen. :)

Laura - love the tea party idea for a B-day party - let us know if the girls enjoyed themselves!! I went and looked up Yurts on the internet - wow - they looked really cool - and cozy. We have a wood stove in our home as well - hot little sucker though. I would think that would heat up a Yurt in no time. Most of the time though, it isn't cold enough for us to run our stove all winter long. I don't think you have that problem though. Yes - goodness take a break - you work so hard - I really can't say that you slacked on your workouts anywhere - and they will improve with a little rest.

Sunday was an interesting day. My 17 yr old nephew brought over his "girlfriend" to my mother's house. She was so cute and my goodness - a tiny, tiny, tiny little thing. She was only slightly taller than my 10 yr old neice! We all felt like amazons around her. This is the first time we (my family) has had to deal with girlfriends or boyfriends around - wow - how time flies. I remember the day he was born!!

Well hope everyone has a great day!!

Back to work this morning. Power Circuits was lots of fun this morning. I went with the weights I had recorded months ago when last I did this routine and decided afterwards that I can probably increase everything. So, I went back through my record and changed all the weight amounts for the next time around later this month.

We had a gorgeous weekend here. Too busy to post. Spent most of Saturday and Sunday cleaning the bridge of the boat (alas one last time this season). Sure looks nice now. Not sure how many more weekends we have left. We've slowly been carting stuff back home. Just a few clothes, towels, and bed sheets left. All that stuff will be last to come home. Have to start bringing home food this weekend. We've slowly been taking less and using up what is on the boat. But we usually bring home alot of the dry store stuff. And of course, water, soda, and beer (whatever is left) will come home. Brought home the dinghy and will put that in a friend's barn for the winter.

Janie: I understand how you feel about wanting to see your work in print. I have one chapter in a book on the reserves. It's only a chapter, but it represented a lot of work. You might find that you get a wider readership is you do a web site though. Everything is going the way of the internet. I wonder how long before books aren't in print anymore? That will be a shame. I just love the smell of a new book--that first crack of the spine. Ahhhh. BTW, that is one tough looking workout rotation. I'm looking forward to hearing how it goes. And I'm glad you are feeling better. Nothing wrong with a good cry--sometimes it helps to cleanse what is ailing you.

Shoegal: I agree that those SM workouts need a warmup. I exercise in the morning after Ripken and I walk a couple of miles and then I usual do some stretching before I get started with the workout. I'm also trying to do a little stretching at night before I go to sleep. Seems to help.

Laura: the tea party sounds like fun. What are the dolls du jour? When I was at the doll playing stage of life, I loved my Barbies and my one favorite doll was Chrissie with the hair that grew. Anybody remember that one? My mom still has my Ken and Barbie in storage but Chrissie is long gone. What dolls did everyone else grow up with?

Shadowpup: darn, no trip. Well, we'll keep trying.

Had some blood taken. Also, the pills they gave me, I only used when I was hurting. But the doc said I should be taking them once a day 30 min. before breakfast. Now she wants me to take them in the morning and at night. I should have been taking them consistently, but I didn't. Live and learn. We'll see in the next several days what is going on. Thank you for all your support.

Deborah, I want my dream too. I'm seriously thinking about a website/blog. Need some time to study it. I went to Amazon and looked up "Woman Sigh, Wolf's Song" Sounds like a great book. I think I will start small and see what happens. Thank you so much for the advice.

Sounds like you are getting stronger. Good Going! I'm always at aw when you exercise and travel at the same time. Amazing!

Shoegal, We are in the process of Winterizing too. My feeders are still up though. LOL Glad you got the job done. Must be nice. Love Kari Anderson, and have most of her DVD's. She's good. Great job on your workout. Advice on making something for Christmas? What kinds of things do you like? Tree ornaments comes in mind. Popcorn and cranberry strings hung on the tree, are always fun to do with someone, or by yourself. Salt dough stuff is fun too...Thank you for so your wonderful kind words. Make me feel good.:) Couldn't start the rotation today as planned, time ran out. But, will start it tomorrow. Your nephews girlfriend sounds so cute. They do grow up fast, don't they?

Michelle, Isn't it great to know you have improved with your weight lifting? Just love that feeling! Good for you. It's kinds sad isn't it to be packing up the boat. I know you had some great memories this year. Oh well, on ward we go until the next time. I think your right about everything is going the way of the internet. I'm going to see how to do that and do some research. Thanks so much. Oh, I love to hold a book, and I too, love the smell of them. Thank you for your support on my tears. I am feeling better.

You are so cool, love everyone of you,

Janie

Good morning fellow Lurkers. This morning's exercise was Cross Train Xpress 10-10-10, plus a bonus from ab hits, all step and powerhour abs. I'm waiting to see how my legs react to the cardio this morning. Lots of different muscle groups being worked with kickbox, hi/low, and then step. And for the first time, I think I got my form correct with the tricep pushups. I always have a hard time with those and I'm sure it's because I'm not quite doing them right. This morning, I think I finally got my arms positioned where they are supposed to be--they were still hard but I could really feel my triceps working.;)

Janie: no fun having to take those pills, but if they do the trick and your pain goes away--then you can get back to having fun and enjoying life. Do you have to watch what you eat as well? Or will the medicine do the trick?
Winterizing is never fun, but the weather was so great last weekend and this weekend is supposed to be really nice too. So, maybe I can give the rest of the boat one last scrub. The local weather for last month was 4 degrees colder than the historical average, but this month we seem to be above normal. I'm not complaining about that.

I know it's a little early, but what is everyone doing for Thanksgiving this year? Travelling, staying at home, cooking, eating someone else's cooking? Joe's son and his wife will be coming over for Thanksgiving dinner. I'm taking that whole week off--sweet!

Well - did the CTX power circuits - and was a little surprised when I did hi/lo around the step. I didn't remember that. I have to say that I did enjoy this workout overall but I don't think I would ever consider this to be a favorite. I think the problem with this series is that she tries to put a little something in there for everyone to enjoy and I don't enjoy all of it (if that makes sense). I had a really good back day yesterday but my knee felt funny. I don't like the thought of having something wrong with that as well. :( and I'm having a simply lousy back day today.

I have another dinner this evening at a friend's house - and I was worried about getting my workout done so I decided to work out there before dinner. I figured if I missed it - I wouldn't be able to get an additional workout in this week.

Michelle - TG - I am going to my Mom's on the actual day and all of my brothers & sisters and their families will be there as well - Rex will accompany me there and then we will be going to my sister-in-laws on Saturday for another TG meal. This is with all of Rex's sisters and their families which is a much smaller group. Who can't eat turkey twice? I always have a difficult time with tricep push ups - too hard!!! I just always felt I had extremely weak triceps.

I wonder - does anybody work out on holidays? I know I have done it in the past - but more recently I don't even attempt to - figure it is a day to rest and indulge.

Janie - Well I hope this medication does the trick - it will probably set things to right and you can get back to your active self. Sometimes we have to take the time and the effort to take good care of ourselves. I think about that for myself - sometimes I am too lazy to do the right thing for myself and I regret it later. I should be more careful and diligent about taking good care of my back. Well - like you said - live and learn. I know I'm definitely still learning.

gee - I'm sleepy - wish there was some sort of little nap in my future but I'm afraid that isn't the case. Hope everyone has a great day.:)

Got the blood report and it is in the normal range. That means no ulcer, but, it does mean I will be taking pills at least once a day for the rest of my life. Right now I'm taking them twice, but will reduce when I can.

Michelle, Love 10-10-10 You did a great job with all the workouts. You must have lots of energy. So glad you found the position needed for triceps. Yeah!

The pills are doing the trick. Guess I'll need to take them as long as I live. Darn, I hate taking pills, but as you say, when I do The GERD doesn't hurt anymore. It doesn't seem that I have to watch what I eat, the pills do a great job.

Going to one of my daughters for Thanksgiving. It will be fun. Oh, how nice that you can take a whole week off. Good going.

Shoegal, Your workout looks great. I do believe she (Cathe) was trying to please the majority of the people on CTX Power Circuit. Sorry about your back and knee. How frustrating that must be. Please take care. I know how that can be when something hurts.;)

How cool to be able to do your workout at your friends house. Nothing is going to stop your!!LOL Good for you.

I'm going to use Thanksgiving day as my rest day, and continue from there.

Thank you for your great support.

Hi guys, been MIA again for a few days, I did manage to at least read the posts and then was interrupted and unable to post...

The girls birthday was so cute and a huge success! All the girls loved the tea party. Maybe I will post a few photos. So Saturday I did end up squeezing in Kenpo X and then I did take Saturday off. Monday were my classes. Today I taught my pilates class and then did the Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps workout. My abs were/are very sore from my classes, and since they rarely are sore I decided not to do the Ab Ripper X letting them have a chance to repair.

Janey: I am glad you don't have an ulcer. You are kind to check up my friend. she has to go to an internists tomorrow. Her family and family in law, the dad is a retired Dr and the mother a retired nurse, told her the only way you can know for sure it is an ulcer is by doing a scope, that blood work alone can not determine that. She also had blood in her stool so needs more examination to find out what is really going on for her. If she eats any food other than crackers, toast and broth she feels extremely toxic and ill.... I am worried about her.

Michelle: You really make me want that Crosstrain Xpress, the one series I really want still. I am going to hold off until after I am done with STS before I buy anything else....

Shoegal: Sorry your back is acting up today. Are you able to determine what sets it off at all? And now the knees are bothering you as well? I think there is often a connection between knees and backs.....I will recommend pilates again. It is the thing that keeps my body aligned and able to do everything else that I do. Without Pilates I doubt my body would take the stress I put it under sometimes... It is the key to all other movement that I do because it teaches you to move from your core taking the strain off of the joints and ligaments and giving you proper alignment in everything else you do....ok, ok I will stop pushing it, but I can't emphasize it's healing power. I was in chronic pain before I started pilates and couldn't imagine a life without pain, now I rarely, rarely have any back pain at all!

Shadowpup: Welcome home! Sounds like you did really well with your workouts while traveling! You are an inspiration, before meeting you on here I used to never workout when I traveled, other than walking, and you inspired me to keep it up while on vacations!

I am here for Thanksgiving, first time in a few years, we are actually not sure what we are going to do yet! Just realized last night how soon it is and we better make plans. We have a few options open to us we just need to commit to one of them so we can plan. I will probably workout that week but maybe not that day....
