Michelle, Yeah, you did a great job on the workouts. Chin-ups if I'm not mistaken is a back exercise, and of course your abs play a lot into it also. The muscles involved in chin-ups are: Chin-ups target the latissimus dorsi muscle, assisted by the brachialis, brachioradialis, biceps brachii , teres major, posterior deltoid, infraspinatus, teres minor, rhomboids, levator scapulae, middle and lower trapezius and pectoralis muscles. Chin-ups are thought to build width and thickness to one's back, as well as to promote growth of the biceps, brachialis, brachioradialis and pronator teres. That is a lot of muscles for one exercise. (I got this on wikipedia). Poor boys. How horrible! I can't even imagine being the parent who was watching. Just how horrible!Just got done with my workout for today: GS Backs, Shoulders, and Biceps and Leaner Legs abs and CTX kickbox planks from Ab hits. Stick a fork in me, I am DONE.
So, I'm wondering about my work on my chin-ups. I think it is also strengthening my obliques and back because when I woke up this morning my side lats and obliques were definitely talking to me. Has anyone else had this experience when working on chin-ups?
We are getting quite a bit of rain here in Virginia. Not so good for my dad's honey bees because they don't come out of the hive and do their thing when it is raining a lot. The other evening, one county over, a 12-year old and 11-year old boy both got hit by lightening while playing catch. They had been playing baseball and on the first sign of lightening, the umpires stopped the game. Most folks took cover. Well, the two boys went to the outfield and were playing catch while it was lightening and thundering. The parents of one of the boys were watching them. UGH! One boy died and the other is still in the hospital--last I heard in critical condition. The whole event was so avoidable.
Okay CHEEZIT fans: now put down the box and do my favorite exercise, push aways.~michelle
My thought was to do ASC III again in order to redeem myself - just to show myself that I could do it - or just the fact that I like to "make up" what I didn't do before - I was going to give this workout another shot. But I actually found myself dreading it and thought - no - this isn't for me right now. So I ended up choosing an "NRG" pre mix from ASC II - this one was called "Ultimate NRG" about 50 minutes in length. I think Amy's pre mixes are really great because once you know the workout well enough you don't want her breaking down the moves at all. Not that she ever really breaks anything down - but this is even tighter. THe mix had you perform the combos in their entirity as if you knew for certain what was coming up. I can do all the combos now - but I don't remember them that well. So she left me in the dust - at some points I just watched her do it - I was missing some subtle tricks that put you on the right foot - and positioning (especially things like what side of the step I needed to land on) so essentially I was all over the place. Blah!!! Ended up rewinding because I knew I could do this but I needed at least one time through to be prepared. All in all I had fun doing it and I finished.
My DH is sick!!! He is coughing pretty good and keeping himself up at night. Kind of puts a little bit of damper on my weekend. At any rate - I have to go now - hope everyone has a great weekend!!!!

Michelle, It's so nice to be on a boat when the weather in nice. "Even your butt is wet" LOLIt has finally stopped raining. When we left the house this morning, the sky was clear and the sun was shining. The cloudiness hasn't quite cleared out here at the boat. But it's supposed to later on today.
So, since it was kind of cool, I decided might as well exercise. Did the whole of kickmax--kick box, interval blasts (modified), and leg drills. While I'm doing the downward dog stretch, my DH looks at me and says "Ewww, even your butt is wet." Thanks dear.
Janie: Not so good news on the injured hand. Guess you will be doing a lot of cardio and leg work. Thanks for the information on the muscles that we work doing chin-ups. Now I have to go look some of those up. Mouses in the house--hate that. Let the cats get the mouse. Isn't that their job?
Hope everyone else is enjoying the weekend.

Laura (Pippadog), it's so good to hear from you!Hello ladies
I hope you don't mind me dropping in as I haven't posted in ages. Sorry to hear about your hand Janie. I've been eyeing up your thread on the sites and you doing impressively.
My workouts have been a bit sporadic lately. I finished STS a few weeks ago and I've been in a limbo since. Not committing properly also I've been working longer hours which is no excuse I know. I joined a gym Thursday which is within walking distance for me as I don't drive. As I need to increase the weights I use on my legs. Also I wanted access to a leg press and cable machine. When I mentioed I'd been weight training for a while and knew a few of the moves I think the instructor was shocked when I said I was mostly interested in the free weights and not the cardio etc. We will see how it goes. I could never leave cathe. There is no comparison is there?
Anyway I hope you are all well and healthy.
LoveLaura UKxx
Laura, Good to see your eating under control. Not sure with popcorn, if I could have.Hi! Wow lots of posting and I just missed one day!
Yesterday was the girls last day of school so it was long and full no time for a work out.But I had kinda planned on that so just made it my rest day. I took the girls to see Pixar's new movie "Up" it was very good but kind of sad too....Ate some popcorn but kept it reigned in. not to bad really.
Today was the first official day of summer break!I woke up made the girls breakfast went back to bed and slept in until around 10....got up made coffee and hit the sadly neglected garden beds. Then went for a 'hike' with the kidos and pup it was way mellow but still burned 430 calories! The high altitude helps to burn those calories and the girls tend to jog everyonce and a while which gets the heart rate up and then they walk...
Came back and did GS Legs! I had that leg workout dread factor come up when I saw it on the calendar. Although I love the GS this one isn't one of my favorites. The lying floor work kills me! Does anyone else find the floor work harder than the standing work.
Janey: Oh I am so sorry about your hand/wrist! Injuries do suck! My neck shoulder is still bothering me too but getting better. Every once and a while it flares up again....Oh and thanks for the anatomy of the pull-up! I think my weak links are in the shoulers/ upper back areas!
Oh and my birthday is coming up to! June 14th! Anniversary on the 19th!
Michelle, Hand is sore, will wrap it up tonight and see if it makes it any better. It hurts!Just a quick post this morning. Have lots to do today--hoping to fit in B&G later on.
Janie: how's your hand feeling today? Is it your right hand or left hand? And which hand do you use for writing, etc? It's a bummer, either way.
Well, I have infected my sister (catchick65) with my fixation on doing a chin-up and a pull-up. She has decided that she too must invest in an iron gym and get to work. Something about not wanting me to get one up on her in this particular area. It's nice to be inspirational!
More later....~michelle
Laura, Gym Style series are tough to do, but as you know, oh so good for ya.WOW! These Check-Ins & Challenges is a busy forum I had to go to page 2 to find us and we are an active group!
So just finished GS Chest & Triceps. Man oh Man I think that is one of the hardest ones for me! Even thought it is short and I don't work up the same kind of sweat as I do on others, my upper body is all a quiver. I am definitely weaker in the chest. It is the one body part that I am down at least 5lbs if not more from Cathe! How does she do those bench flys with 20lbs??? I would feel like my chest cavity would crack in half!
Janey: Have fun at the zoo! My girls are big zoo fans although we don't go as often since they are in school. The Seattle zoo is fantastic we go often when we visit.
I am sort of surprised, I think I had to go down on the weights on the GSC&T. I have totally been working out but I think nothing else in my video library really compares to that GS series. All the weight work is good in the Body Blast Series and the Intensity Series but I don't think it as isolated an approach as the GS. I should check out their premixes next and see....What do you guys thinK?
Laura, Yeah for DOM's. Good for you girl! Ouch (I bet) A stretch will do you good.Oh and I forgot to mention I have DOMSagain from the GS Legs yesterday, right on my hamstrings and buttocks! I might do a Stretch Max later tonight...
Shoegal, What an adventure you had! Rapids, water, losing items, sounds like it might have also been dangerous. Glad everyone is OK. Sorry to hear your DH is feeling ill. Hope he doesn't get you sick too. Too cool about your German Shorthairs Pointers. They sound like great dogs. I can envision you on top of the counter.LOLGreat weekend - great weather. On Friday my DH and I and our pups went out for a walk - we walked across this huge field and up this tremendous hill - really had a nice time - all despite his illness. Right then didn't seem like he was too sick - we even managed to run some parts of it. He said the walk did him good. On Saturday we went canoeing again with the girls - had some mishaps with some rapids - and without going into the entire story we lost some items and other things - like my camera got wet and ruined. It is alright - I absolutely hated that camera. So now that my birthday is coming up (as Michelle pointed out) I might get a new one out of it - something I like better. It was an adventure though and we had a great time then too. Came home and went out to dinner. He didn't seem too sick then either. Sunday he started to fizzle and by Monday - well out of commission - didn't go to work either. I called him at noon to find him practically incomprehensible from sleep. I really hope he gets better and I don't get sick.
Janie - I'm sorry about your hand - I hate injuries too. I also hate mice!!! I'm sorry I don't seem to classify mice along with other animals - especially not in the house. I can't handle it. The other day Scout and Dot were "pointing" at something by the couch - both of them - (they are German shorthaired Pointers) so the two of them perfectly pointed at whatever it was in unison (wish I had my camera then) - I was petrified. I got up on the counter and called for DH. He assured me it was something they could see outside.
Hope everyone has a great day.![]()
Laura, Get some sleep and will talk to you when you had some rest. We'll be here when you get back. Have a nice evening.Hi Everyone.,
It is late on Monday night and just finished eating my late, late dinner after my two classes. I had no pep today, more winded and fatigued walking up stairs and stuff like that, body felt kind of leaden and stiff. So I didn't do anything else.
I did a Pyramid style upper body workout for upper body cause one of my ladies knee was aggravated. It was good and they LOVED it!
Read personals but to tired to reply tonight!!
You are getting stronger and making improvements every time you workout. Congratulations for a job well done.Quick post this morning before heading over to the Pentagon. Took a break Sunday, did GS Chest and Triceps yesterday. Was able to do the first set of 16 push-ups and the second set of 14 on my toes. After that, it was down to the knees. Boy those drop set push-ups are a challenge. Did the first set of chest flies with 20 pound dumb bells then dropped down to 15 for the next two sets. 15 pounds seemed really light after that first set with 20s, but THAT didn't last for long. By the time I got to triceps my arms felt fried but I guess that's the point.
Did one good chin-up yesterday--getting there little by little. More later.

Shoegal, I'm impressed with you and not giving up on a step workout. I'm not sure If I could hang in there. May your family is just saying it, so that when you open the gifts, it is what you wanted all along. A surprise maybe?Last night I decided to do 4DS all week long. I thought this was a brillant idea - don't know why. So I did HIS. I love the step portion - and it was nice for me since I got the combos so easily. The last one had given me trouble in the past - I hated that she taught the majority of it with her back to me - and mine to hers so it stumped me a little bit. Now I have it down.
Tonight I'm not sure what I'll be doing but it will be something from 4DS.
Got some horrible news - I had given my sister some gift ideas for my birthday - and it had included some workout videos from Cathe. She said - nobody is buying you any of those videos - we have decided that you have enough of them. Well!!! I'm flabbergasted - how could I possibly ever have enough?!! That is insane and ludicrous. I'm actually bummed out. Getting these videos as presents has always been a great thing for me - now I've been cut off - denied and I'll have to buy them myself. Geeze.
I really would have liked to have gone to NYC for Cathe's class there - that looked fabulous to me. It was just such short notice. One day.
Hope you all have a great day.
Laura, If I'm not prepared for any workout, then I'm dumed. I have to watch the workouts the night before, so I can do them the next day. It works very well for me, and am not stumped as much. The second time around is really easy and I don't watch it the night before. Only the ones I haven't done for awhile or new ones. I wanted to tell you that you did such a good job on your workout. Doc said I spraind it. It's getting better very quickly. Joey won't be back until the 16, or there abouts. Cant' wait, weeds are growing...need a man to help with the outside stuff.LOLHi there Lovely Ladies!
I taught my Pilates class this morning, we did some Magic Circle and some good Core work, it was fun!
Than I came home and saw that Cardio Fusion was on my Calendar for the workout rotation I am doing this month. I had not previewed it yet but I put it in and did the warm up ok and then I got lost in the first second of the step combo section. It isn't broken down at all, I think it must be in the BodyMax2 DVD which I still haven't found. Anyway I thought that this must be what Shoegal was talking about with her Amy Bento DVD. I didn't have the time or patience right then to learn the moves. So I pulled out Imax3 which I thought might be comparable. HOLY COW! I had forgotten how insane that workout is! I was dripping sweat and my heart felt like it would explode on some of those drills. I had to stop it a lot to let my heart rate back down but I did it all. I think after drill 4 I wasn't sure I would make it through 6 more but got through it. It wasn't pretty and my Jump tucks were pathetic toward the end... Cathe and crew are truly amazing!
Janey: glad to hear your hand feels better. Did the Dr tell you what was wrong with it? I bet you are excited to have use of your dominant hand back. Is Joey back from his adventures yet?
Michelle, Love the DOM's. You know you are benefiting when that happens. I love a workout that challenges me. Good for you.Went to bed early last night. I was just beat. Got up this morning and still felt tired, plus have major DOMs from GSC&T on Monday. Despite feeling tired and the DOMS (and after walking Ripken because he always comes first), I put BodyMax in the dvd player and gave it a whirl. Made it through the step portion but had to go to very low impact on the circuits. I almost gave up after each circuit, but then said, "no, just one more...." Well, if you do that enough times you end up doing all of them. So, it wasn't a workout of wonder and beauty, but I got through it.
Janie: glad to hear that your hand is feeling better. Did your doctor give you any advice on when you could start lifting weights again?
