Lurker Invitations April Check-In

Good Mornin,

Will be doing cardio today. Will report back on how it goes.

Janie, I wish I felt like the energizer bunny!!LOL! We had some hail here yesterday and it rained and rained and rained. The sun finally came out and I got to take a quick 20 minute run. I figured out that I ran 6 miles the day before and my knees are definitely taking the brunt from the runs so I took it easy yesterday. I also did two pilates dvds with a theraband which felt good.

Shoegal: that does sound lovely where you are. My brother lived in State College for 4 years and we got up there twice. It was a cute town and the surrounding area was beautiful. His wife was the Head Tennis Coach for the girls team. She is an incredible athlete.

Michelle: congratulations to being so close on getting those chin-ups I wonder to how you are going to train for them? Let me know. I have a chin-up bar at home that fits in a door jam. But since I can't even do one I tend not to do them! LOL! That surely is the WRONG approach and I know I won't get what I want from that!!

Janie that really is an impressive work out and it does seem to be working if you went up so much in weights! Now I HAVE to get it! Christmas seems to far away.

So today I think I will go to a gym and do cardio on the machines to give my knees a rest. Maybe some weights? Since I haven't been doing Cathe I have been spending my time planning my workouts for when I get home. I have decided to do the April Rotation starting Monday the 20th when I get home. I have never done a rotation before and I will have almost all the workouts when I get back for that one. After that I think I will explore all my new worouts!

Hi Laura,

Did 15 min. of MIC then 15 min. on the treadmill. For the first time in my life I did a mile in 15 min. YOOHOO! I can only try to beat this every time now.

Can't you possibly get the STS Series before Christmas. What about Anniversary or something, Birthday, A just because gift, Mother's Day...? I can't believe how much it is helping me with everything from getting out of bed to daily living and beyond.

I looked up the April rotation. Sounds like a challenge. Enjoy it.

I'm going to the hot tub again, just to relax.

Not feeling 100 percent today. I made it through my day of meetings with Marines here at Camp Lejeune, but I'm just not at my normal energy level. It's either sinuses or a cold. I'm going to see how I feel in the morning before I decide on the exercise--which will be B&G floor lower body and abs--if I'm feeling better.

Laura: I'll have to give the April rotation a look. I'm intrigued. Back in January (I think) I did a modified version of Cathe's rotation. Forgot all about checking out the rotation for this month.

Check in Tuesday

Over the weekend a friend of my DH's passed away. Yesterday we went to the funeral home. I didn't really get home that late - but it was the fact that my "routine" seemed to be disrupted - it was just enough to convince me that I didn't really want to work out. But plug along I did - I stuck in the Terminator. I am convinced that if it was entitled "Easy Cardio Training" I would have been more inclined to do it. I attempted Imax Extreme - and I looked up the time - said 70 minutes. Man - I began and just kept looking at the clock and thought - this is going to take forever. After 20 minutes I shut it off. The dread factor was too high. I thought - well - it was 20 minutes.

Today we attended the funeral and I had a much larger lunch than usual. We got home earlier in the day than we normally do. I sat around and then went in to again attempt Imax Extreme. I just finished it. I'm thoroughly soaked with sweat and discovered that it isn't 70 minutes - but 74.5 minutes!!! I know - 4 minutes - but heck - it makes a difference when I'm looking for it to end. Basically it is Cardio & Weights and IMAX 2 - all cardio from the 1st workout and 8 intervals from the 2nd. It was sort of like doing both workouts. I got through it. Woo Hoo!!!

I would go into personals now but I'm starting to freeze - need to get this wet shirt off. Except - Michelle - I hope you feel better.

I'm off now to change.

Shoegal, I'm so sorry about your friend. It's got to be a tough time for you. I'm impressed with your gumption to keep going with your exercises. I'm very proud of you, now, get some rest and have some quite time.

Check in Thursday

I did Power Hour yesterday - and actually fast forwarded through the parts where Cathe talks about form - never did that before - I'd always let her talk so I was prepared - but I was short on time and wanted to save a couple minutes. It really turned out not to matter. I attempted to push myself and do the push ups on my toes - and use heavier weights. I had scheduled MIS - I was confident I had it - spent awhile looking for it - found it - decided it was too long and opted to do PH. I did this after I packed up all the Easter decor - my evening in a nutshell.

Janie - My DH's friend passed away. It was a friend of his from High School and I never met him before. I was there simply for support. My hydrangea is actually potted and living in my house for now. I didn't want to plant it until the danger of frost has passed. In the meantime - it is not looking so good. What can I do to help it? The weights your lifting - oh my God - it really is impressive. I have to start STS soon.

It has been quiet here - hope everyone else out there is well and hanging in there. Miss you guys here - hope to hear from you soon.

Shoegal, You should have your hydrangea outside as soon as you can work the soil. It's still probably dormant, (if you got it from a nursery) at least I hope so. That's when you plant them outside, or during the Fall or Early Spring, the freeze is good for them. They need freezing weather to blossom/bloom. If you got it at a department store while it is in bloom, you'll have to wait until it's not freezing outside. I hope it survives, they are beautiful bushes.

It has been quite here. Should I invite other Lurkers just so it can be more active again? This is your check-in too, so thought I would ask before I did that.

Have a great evening,

Janie

ok putting in my check-in to make some noise around here!

Day before yesterday I did a Power Yoga dvd with Rodney Yee it was really good. I was really very sore in my sides the next day. I bought it years ago and attempted it once but actually found it to challenging. Now that I am stronger I really enjoyed it and could do all the pushup in it.

I went for a beautiful hike yesterday at Ebbey's Landing which went up and over a bluff and down to the beach and back along the beach. It was 4 miles, with a good climb/descent, but went slowly with my mother, the twins and my friend who has gotten extremely large since college. I think she is close to 300+ pounds. She was really winded and red faced from the walk. She used to be a wilderness guide so I think that was hard for her to realize how hard a four mile hike was for her. :( I am worried about her.

Today I ran for an hour and did segment 1 from stretch max. I will see if I can get segment 1 from core max in latter in the day. We leave tomorrow and there is a huge storm front in the Rockies. It is supposed to snow from tonight through Saturday all the way down in Denver so we will be buried. I am so not looking forward to traveling home to that.

Janie I think I was looking over to your neck of the woods from Eddy's landing we could see the Olympics any way and Port Townsend across the water.

Shoegal You are really picking up the pace on those workouts! Sorry to hear about your DH's friend. Was he young?

Michelle hope you are feeling better.

Shadowpup hope you are having a good trip, I don't feel concerned at all that you might not be working out! You are my hero!~

Ironlady: hope everything is ok in your world. I hope your dad is ok.

Shadow Pup not to encourage you to buy something new but you might like the Power Yoga DVD by Rodney Yee he does a ton of hamstring, low back flexibilty work in it.

Laura you are so thoughtful to everyone. I love Rodney Yee. One of my most favorite Yoga Instructors. Do enable this DVD, it is so good. Isn't the Pac. NW. beautiful? I just love it over here. I worry about my over weighted people as well. It's so sad. I can't do cardio for an hour yet. I come close (30 min.LOL;)), then I need to stop. I'll try next time to do 45 min. though, and see how that goes. You are an inspiration to me. Please be careful traveling in stormy weather. Have a safe trip back home.

Talk later,
Janie

Good morning all! I'm back - it was a productive trip, very interesting meeting, well worth going - and I am delighted to be home :) It was one of the harder places to squeeze in workouts: being between Mesocycles put the band off limits, and the workout room in our hotel was only open 6-10, without a good safe area for outdoor activities nearby, and very thin walls at the hotel. And meeting was at a facility where the bus in was the only real option, and it left at 7:10!!! What were they thinking???? Sigh. However - I was diligent in my airport concourse walking both on the way over and on the way back, easily going over my 10K steps as measured by the pedometer. Using the stairs and walking briskly and continuously ramped up the calorie burn, making both days the equivalent of a moderately difficult 90-120 minute hikes with 30 pound pack. And, I was able to get in two very solid cardio coach workouts by skipping out on the dessert sections of our banquets. Add to that one light stretching session ... and I'd rate the workout side as acceptable, four solid days and one stretchout day out of five :)

My inbox is going to be horrible, so you may not see me back here until evening. No safe way to get at the work email while I was gone ...:(

It looks like there have been several interesting conversations! I'll have to read back and see what the Rodney yoga thread is about!

Hi guys. I posted 3 times on Wednesday and kept dropping off the internet connection at the hotel. Finally just gave up. Yesterday, we drove back to Northern Virginia from Camp Lejeune. I still have my cold and felt horrible--to top it off, I also have laryngitis. My DH was happy to have me home but not too upset that I couldn't talk his ears off. All I've done is sleep off and on for the past 24 hours--mostly in moving vehicles.

Regardless of how bad I felt, I told DH--let's pack up and go to the boat. So, as soon as I got home yesterday, we loaded up the SUV and headed over to Solomons. So glad we did. It is beautiful here today--sun shining, low 70s, little breeze. I plan on resting all day in the cockpit with the sun shining on my face.

Ripken and I got in two short walks this morning and after the second one, I was wiped out. I'm hoping that I feel good enough tomorrow to get in a light workout.

Shadowpup: welcome home. I here you on the email. I missed 2 days and it took me a while this morning to sort through and respond to stuff.

Laura: sounds like you've got Shadowpup almost ready to go buy some new Rodney Yee yoga dvds. I have a couple of Yoga dvds but I don't like them. I find that the instructors go too fast through the movements. Does Rodney Yee give you enough time to hold the pose and feel the stretch? Isn't that supposed to be the point of yoga anyway?

Janie: how's STS going? Do you feel like you've gotten back into your normal rhythm at home?

Check in Friday

I did the Gauntlet last evening. I have to say that I absolutely loved this workout. Yes - it was hard - but it was put together like Boot Camp and I'm a big Boot Camp fan. There was one interval from IMAX2 - compound weight work from C&Ws - lower body from BC and upper Body from BC and then a cardio from BC - repeat this 7 times. When the cardio from the Boot Camp was butt up against the IMAX2 interval - it got to be alot. I did everything though - I was so proud of myself. The first cardio from BC has all those Air jacks in it - usually I modify that whole thing or I do what I can and then I just watch Cathe finish. This time - I did all the air jacks. It goes pretty fast - and it is hard to do it that fast - but I sort of felt that mine were respectable - certainly not like Cathe - but respectable enough to pass.

Push ups are still incredibly HARD - Shadowpup - I'm beginning to despair - you said these would get easier. So far - I haven't attempted one without thinking - GEEZE - these are still so hard. I'll remain a weakling for the rest of life. I saw a video of Valerie Bertinelli doing push ups on her toes - seemingly pretty well - and I thought - my goodness if she can do it - why can't I??

Michelle - probably the fresh air will help flush out the sick. I think just being in the sun will be helpful to you. Nothing is better than the sun on your face. At least, that is true in my book. My DH and I are thinking of taking the kayaks out or the canoe - it is supposed to be sunny and warm in PA tomorrow.

Janie - well, I didn't read your post well enough - saw all the instructions about planting outside and jumped on it. The hydrangea came from Sam's club and was in bloom - but, like I said, I went ahead and planted it outside anyway and then realized today that you said not to. It is probably not doing so well. I feel so bad - I am taking it inside tonight. I can't have it die out there - even if it was dying inside. I'm thinking its doomed.

Laura - Rodney Yee - my mom was all into yoga and has a bunch of Rodney Yee tapes - neat man - always where mimimal clothing working out too. I've done his stuff but I'm not big into Yoga but I really do appreciate the poses. I also really appreciate the parts they had where you just laid down and did nothing. I loved the silence - it was extremely relaxing. Namaste.

Shawdowpup - glad you had a productive trip and glad you're back. Are you going to purchase the Push/Pull tower? I'm thinking I need this for STS - anybody else?

I am supposed to go watch Brian Minto fight tonight. Yes - DH is dragging me there against my will - I really don't like boxing but he does and he says he likes me around.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!!! :)

Shadowpup, so glad your trip was productive, and so glad you are back home. I'm really impressed that even though your circumstances were not the best for exercising, you did it anyway, without any excuses. If you want it bad enough, people can usually find a way getting over the obstacles. You are great for doing so, and I'm proud of you for it.

Michelle, I hear your frustrating note, when you were dropped from the internet like that. I sure hope your sickness from a cold and laryngitis gets better for ya. How awful! And yet you took your boat out? WOW! I'm so glad you had a great time. Yes, I've gotten back to my normal rhythm. I'm gaining muscle, but not real good yet on eating. So, I have muscle, but under flab. Have to work harder on that, as usual.

Shoegal, Fabulous workout. Pushups on the toes are very hard to do. Here is what I've learned. Start with as many as you can do, I started with one. The next time (at least a day in-between) do two, then three...and so on. Soon you will make it up to 10 as Valerie does and more. Don't feel so bad about the hydrangea. They are fairly tough plants. When all danger of frost is gone, plant it outside, even though you might think its dead. Water every week, it just might improve, if you see growth, then water every two weeks. Good luck. Let me know later if it has survived. Enoy Brian Minto, and mostly just being with your honey and watching him have a good time.

Have a great evening,

Janie

Hey guys, back again. I'm tired but feeling better. Trying to get motivated to take Ripken for his walk. Of course, he is ready to roll.

Shoegal: I checked Cathe's website before logging on to the CatheNation and I read about the push-pull tower. I'm thinking--got to have one of those. I'll probably pre-order before the cut off date. STS probably won't be that far behind for me. It looks pretty dang awesome. I'm guessing Shadowpup has already got her order in. I'm hearing you on the push-up challenge. I was up to 20 pushups on my toes before this dang cold put me out of commission this week. Maybe I'll benefit from the break from exercise like Janie did. I'm hopeful.

Janie and Shoegal: I respect you folks who can grow stuff. 30 minutes in the garden and I'm an itchy, sniffy person. I do minimal yardwork and opt for the easy stuff: lariope and azaelas. That's the extent of my "gardening." My maternal grandfather had amazing flower and vegetable gardens and my mom does pretty good at the garden thing. I definitely did not inherit the outdoor green thumb.

Got in a few snoozes today laying in the cockpit. Was nice to just relax. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Hi All!

Thank you sooo much for thinking of me! Everything is okay in my world... no definite answer for DD about her migraines, father is the same, uncle is starting chemo and I have some strange heel or tendon injury. Oh well, will try some stetches and easy stuff! Maybe I'll work on my 1RM tests!

SO's DD married over Easter Weekend in Mississippi so drove there and back.... wedding was nice and she asked me to be in the pictures! Small mostly family attended... fiance forgot to mail the invitations! She only gave him ONE task!!! ;)

I have "lurked" some and read the posts.... I am just not really good at checking in! :(

Love the gardening posts... hope to do some gardening of my own when SO and I finally get a home, maybe this summer!

Anywho.... hope everything is going well in your corners of the world!!! Seems to be from the posts!!! Except for a few lingering cold/sinus issues, something I share in there!

check you all later!

Hi all,

Everyone, thanks for the welcome home! It is *so* nice to be back. I've enjoyed catching up on these posts. Had to laugh, though, since you are all getting to know my weaknesses so well! My office posts were less fun. There were over four hundred messages.

I did indeed order the yoga dvd, almost immediately after reading the posts from Laura. Laura, thanks very much for the suggestion! Turns out the dvd is on sale, almost half price, on Amazon. It has already shipped! With luck, I'll get to try it out before my next trip (leaving Thursday, this time for a family visit). It feels good to be taking steps to get my flexibility on the road to improvement. And, if there are pushups, I will get to use mine there. Cathe does not seem to do pushups in Meso 2. I used a tiny amount of self control and ordered only one dvd  Though I think that I might need Circuit Max  Or is that want?

Ironlady, nice to see your post! Sounds like a fun wedding. Wow, if they got married after fiance forgot to mail invitations, SO's DD must be a model of patience  And very classy that you were included in the pictures. She does sound like a winner. On the 1RMs - did you find the priority list, the one with the stars? It lets you know which ones are the most important. I didn't do them all, just the three stars and above, which has worked out very well. Hope you'll stick around, even lurking, and check in whenever you feel like it.

Michelle, Shoegal, I have almost clicked on that buy button for the Power Tower so many times today since discovering it was available ... the double issue is, first, it is not something I can use for squats, and I am kind of wanting a squat rack like this one: Powerline-PPR200X-PowerLine-Power-Rack. They have a sale running on the squat rack right now; actually I'm noticing a big drop in quite a few exercise equipment areas lately. But it will be hard to fit two rack/cage setups in my space. This means practicing restraint OR else convincing myself that I need the Power Tower in the quarters I use when I'm at my offsite workplace OR deciding that one of these items can live in the garage. The pricing is so good that I'm tempted to skip option a and go with b or c. But that would mean putting off the squat rack ... since I did get Chalean ... There are a few days left to dither ;) The pricing looks good, it's a solid unit, the price is terrific ... I just wish it was intended for heavy squats.

Michelle, the boat trip sounds so fun and restful, even though you had a sore throat and no voice. And your pushups are great! STS Meso 2 does not appear to have any, at least in the early weeks, so I will have to squeeze them in on other days. Maybe they are considered cardio now, gulp.

Shoegal, I've watched motorcycle ice racing and Nascar and monster trucks, in the 'good company' role, and it's worth it. As long as I don't have to do it too often. Hopefully you'll have a good time ... Speaking of good time, you have been doing so well with your workouts! I am inspired to think about Gauntlet or Terminator or something like that for upcomign cardio. It sounds very, very tough. And, the pushups *will* get easier. Have you tried doing them on your toes, but on an incline? That can be a good way to start. Shifting the center of gravity from just behind shoulders back further towards your hips makes it easier. Also, a trick I learned from STS is how to use the stability ball. Cathe has us do quite a few that way. You can place it under your hips (easiest), thighs (harder), ankles (harder yet), toes (toughest of all). The nice thing about this is that you can find the exact spot that is equal to your current ability, and move the ball around as you get tired during the set. And anyone who can push through Gauntlet is definitely no weakling!!!

Janie, gardening is in the air around here too. My spring bulbs are coming out everywhere :) It is soon going to be gorgeous. What kind of things will you be growing this year, anything special? And thank you for making sure we keep this thread alive! I really miss our check ins when I'm gone. Eating clean is definitely one of those things that needs such constant attention ... this year I'm getting much better about it.

Tomorrow looks like a nice day to do something with the horses. If the ground is solid enough I will go riding! It may be too moist, with the rain I hear falling, but one can always hope.

Oh yes, almost forgot, today's workout: Meso 2 has officially begun :) I enjoyed the longer breaks between workouts, but I was so tired afterwards that I could not do any of the stretches that involved using the forearms. They absolutely would not hold any weight for almost an hour, not even the cat

All this talk about gardening and spring weather is really bumming me out! I am stuck in Denver in a crazy Spring Snow Storm because my husband can't come out of the mountains to get us! DIA Airport closed as soon as our plane had taxied to the gate. We made it under the wire. Who knows where we would have been routed to! I was traveling alone with my twin daughters so it was pretty stressful.

But we are safe and warm in a nice hotel and hopefully DH can get us tomorrow!

I took the girls to the gym and was able to do an hour of cardio and some free weights for biceps, triceps and shoulders. Felt so good to have weights in my hands again.

Janie thank you so much you are so thoughtful of everyone! I do love the PNW it is so beautiful. We saw on more whale from the ferry on the way home. Keep up the great work with STS.

Shadowpup: I thought of you at the airport and on the ferries I saw several professionals doing their cardio laps in their work clothes and tennis shoes. And this morning there was a lady who came into the breakfast room in her workout clothes. It is so motivating to see people making health and fitness fit into their lives and schedules. I hope you like the dvd

Michelle: the Power Yoga is more of a flowing yoga from one posture to another, so you do hold the poses but not for very long. It is a focus of yoga to hold the poses but the best place to experience that is in a class, I think in general the yoga DVD I have done focus more on flowing than holding.

Ironlady welcome back sounds like a fun wedding. Hope that tendon heals soon. I hate injuries!

OMG! Shoe gal are you insane??? Anyone doing the workouts like you are can not even be considered on the same planet as a weakling! LOL! I know how you feel though I always seem to focus on what I can't do instead of what I can do! Well if it keeps us motivated and going I guess it is ok! But take a moment to pat yourself on your back! You deserve it!
