Good morning all! It's gorgeous here too: still snow most places, but I see bare ground and my crocuses are doing their best to peek through. The daffodil tops are also showing through the snow ... maybe spring will find us after all
Laura, yes, sigh, I'm just going to have to find some form of leg stretching that I like and can incorporate in my lifestyle. If only there were a gadget that measured this area. It's a sad commentary on how inflexible I was as a kid that even now, poorly as I do in that area, I can at least touch the ground. I'd get within three or four inches as a child and no further.
For dial-in, I ended up with the bowflex select tech. There are several styles and manufacturers, and probably you'll want to pick them up to see what you think. Even within bowflex there are different grips. Mine are the 2009 version, and they have a flat side so that you can set them down without rolling, which on a boat would probably be even more of a plus than in my basement! One is a box-style, which I tried out at a hotel gym and did not like at all. I've seen the box style in p90x, and you may want to consider them. They seem to take up less space. Also, the materials in the mechanisms are different. If you're doing salt water boating, that might end up being the deciding factor for you.
It was a combination of things that sold me on the select tech. One, pragmatic, the resale value is high so if you don't use them you can get your money back

. Also, they are extremely easy to use - just flip a switch on each end of the bell to change the weights. Also, there's a variety of weight ranges; I opted for the 90 pound max but most people here seem to be getting the 50s. I just kept looking at my 1RMS and thinking ... I better get more weight than 50. I also like that you can change the weights in increments of 5, but you can also set each half differently, which means you not only get a different kind of challenge to the muscle due to the difference in weight on each side, but you essentially get a 2.5 pound increment. I have been using that in STS quite a bit! Some people complain that their bowflex weights break. I haven't had mine long enough to tell, but there is a warranty. You'll want to pick them up to try them out in your hand, because the sheer size of the ends takes getting used to. The smaller/50 pound adjustables are not as big as the larger 90/pound adjustables.
