Lump on back of neck?

Rockerchick

Hey gals (and guys) - my 11 year old son came to me and showed me a lump on the right hand side of his neck at the hairline. It is colorless and painless. He said it has been there for about a month. About a week ago one of his lymph nodes on the left side of his neck in front is swollen and painful to the touch and still is today. I am going to take him to a doctor next week but of course im really worried. I have been reading a little on the internet and alot of people have mentioned having the same type of lump on the back of the neck. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!
Rosie

Hi Rockerchick,

Is the lump hard or pliable?

If it is located at the hairline, I am wondering if it is a swollen node, that hasn't been draining properly. A friend of mine had this happen - and the answer was to go on anti-biotics for a bit to clear it up.

Of course the best thing is to see the doctor as soon as possible, as only he or she can diagnose for certain - but I thought I'd post my friend's experience nonetheless.

Take care - Yve

had the same thing happen to me, . . and i freaked out big time. went to the doc and they told me it was a swollen lymph node, . . he took a hold of it with 2 fingers and started to move it around and said that it is only concerning if it won't move because then it is grounded whatever that means, . . and then he said if that was the case they would just removed it. because mine was moving around he just prescribed IBU and in a month it went away. take him in asap just to make sure. i hope everything is okay.

I have a small cyst on my hair line as well...been there for years and my doctor said it was a "sebaceous cyst" and nothing to worry about my friend also has one on the back of his neck.....hope all turns out well!
