Lower Body Workouts! So great, but such dread!

Oh help!

I would greatly appreciate some:

a) commiseration from those of you who have to pep-talk yourself into doing your leg work,

and/or

b) encouragement and inspiration from those of you who LOVE working your legs! Specifics! Why do you love it? What do you think about while, say, doing those low-end lunges that burn your quads?

and/or

c) hope! from those of you who used to hate it and now are okay and it's not such a big deal.

For a bonus:

Have any of you transformed your legs from lifelong "blah" to "yay, they're sexy now and I love wearing skirts!"?

Please talk about legs with me!

Thanks,
Gisela

Leg Day Love

I've hated my legs my whole life. Loathed, despised, couldn't bear looking at them.

Weighted lower body work has changed the shape of my legs. It makes me feel strong when I can leg press 210 lbs at the gym. It makes me feel good when I can squat with 45 or 50 lbs on the barbell at home. I like the shape of my legs now. I'm proud of how hard the muscles are.

I love leg work. The secret is leg day love;) I tell people this all the time. On dreaded leg day, you just come on here, and say "hey girls, I need some leg day love". We send it. BAM! You're golden.

Monica Brant-Peckham has a t-shirt on her website that says "Leg Day - No hurt, no tight skirt";) Ain't it the truth?

RE: Leg Day Love

So perfect SHelly! I too hated my legs! I would NEVER wear shorts no matter how hot and so on. Even in the military in the summer in the Mississippi heat, I would wear sweat PANTS during PT.
Well, not anymore!! I love the shape of my legs now. They aren't perfect, but that is what makes me love leg day more. Knowing I can make them even better!
We will send you that leg day love whenever you need it! Infact, it is leg day tomorrow for me!
Have fun!

Thanks, I needed to hear that! (Sorry, just couldn't resist}( )

On another note, my thighs have always been my trouble area and I've been working on them for a long time and will not stop even if I don't get them to where I want them to be. That in itself keeps me going because after all these years, I can't quit now because I'll never know what could possibly be. :) The only thing I'm not sure I'll ever be able to slim out is the side of my knees which I can pick up and hold in my hand. I've been blessed with this gene as my mother has that lovely extra stuff on the side of her knees too but I'll still keep working on them.

I do leg work 5 days a week 'cause I'd hate to think of what they would look like if I didn't! Actually, I KNOW what I'd look like when I see my female relatives who don't work out! I'm going to see a lot of them on Sunday, so that will be a big motivator for me!

Leg workouts, not my favorite either. I carry that weight down below but little by little they are tightening up. No more thigh jiggle when I'm driving my car.

Now, if I could stretch the skin upward and smooth it all out...I'll do my elbows at the same time LOL!

I hate how big I allowed my legs to get. Now that I am losing I see their shape again. I used to get compliments all the time on my legs. I remember those compliments I used to get, that's what keeps me motivated to work them. :) Just remember to stay focused on whatever goal you have set for yourself.

<< The only thing I'm not sure I'll ever be able to slim out is the side of my knees which I can pick up and hold in my hand. >>

Ah, yes, that inner knee pudge..I've sure got that. I'm hoping there's hope for us yet. That's the worst part of my legs (and I've got big thighs and calves and all, but I just can't stand my knee pudge!)

I love the sore feeling the day after I work my legs. Right now my hamstrings are screaming, and I love it (no, I'm not a masacist (sp?)) :) So for me, I don't always enjoy doing those horrid low-ends, but I do it for the DOMS I get the next day. Hehe

It took me three years to get my legs to where they are. They're not perfect and far from where I really want them to be (I have back and knee problems, and can't go that heavy with the bb or do too many squats and lunges) but they are so much better than they used to look.

I HATE leg day. For sure, Shelley -- and several other Catheites -- continually send me leg day love. Can't say I'm golden but I can finish the tough workouts, and that's saying a lot considering my limitations. ;-)

How do I talk myself into doing leg work? I don't. If I talk to myself about it, or think too much about it, I might not do it at all. I empty my head of all thought (not hard considering how old and forgetful I'm getting) and just do it.

I've transformed my legs from lardy and pudgy to not-too-shabby. I still don't wear skirts since I'm not fond of them. Too much air passes between my legs and I feel naked. :p But I do wear shorts. Around the house for the most part. Sometimes when running errands. I've never been one to show too much skin, but these days I'm more comfortable in my own skin and more at peace with my body.

You can do it, Gisela!

Hi

I actually enjoy leg work and it gets my heart rate up too.
Variety is the key for me, standing, floor work, using the
ball, ankle weights or the bar method type of workouts etc..
Right now legs and glutes is my favorite Cathe leg workout.
I keep the weights light to moderate though, it is heavy
weight leg training that I don't like,

I have seen a lot of fat loss off my legs but it has taken
a while to see improvement.

I don't like lower body work, period, but I have really seen myself lean out doing Jari Love's Slim and Lean and Ripped to the Core. I do S&L twice a week and RTTC once a week. I have been on this rotation with spinning and have seen dramatic results in the lower area. Ahhh, the love of wearing shorts and no skin rubbing between thy legs....:7

My oh my do I freakin hate leg work. I mean, you work the entire lower half of your body while you typically split your upper body into separate workouts.......leg work is hard & it's exhausting!

I do a really heavy leg routine once a week. I dread it every time I do it. I have to convince myself to haul my lazy butt to the gym & get it over with, b/c I know when I do I'll feel so good about myself.

So, I guess what I'm saying is even though it's probably the toughest body part to work, when you work it hard you get great results, not to mention what it does for your confidence. I know when I walk out of the gym on leg day I feel tight as a drum, & I feel like I've accomplished something major.
