lower back pain

Hi Cathe!

For the past 3 months I have been doing your cardio kicks and kick boxing tape 4-5 times a week. I noticed my lower back hurting so I went to the doctor and she said I hurt my sacroiliac (sp?). Could I have been doing something wrong in the tapes to pull something? I now need to rest for 14 days which is sooooo hard because I was on a roll and have dropped 20 lbs. Do I need not to kick so high? I just love your cardio kicks and feel that tape is what is making me lose the weight. Any help or feedback is very appreciated.

Hi there, not Cathe but I am a sports therapist. The sacroilliac jont is the joint between the base of your spine and where it joins onto your pelvis. It has a slight "nodding' movement and in and around here are quite a few tendons/ligaments.

The problem could be in trying to kick too high and forcefully pushing your hip forward (on your support leg) as you kick causing excess movement in this joint ( as I can't see you, I am guessing this is where ithurts). Remember what Cathe says, " as long as you snap and recoil, it doesn't mater if you can't kick high, you are still using the muscles just as well as a high kicker'.

With rest you will see a difference and dont worry too much, 14 days is nothing comapred to not working out at all due to chronic back problems.

Hope this helps and I hope that Cathe doesn't mind me answering!

Thank you for your advice. I think that may be the problem. I need to go back and properly learn the snap and recoil. I just love this tape and want to continue.

Thank you again
